I went to the bowling alley to play pinball, and I was pleased to find three new games. The lineup is:

>Black Rose
>Tron
>Dirty Harry
>Road Kings
>Simpsons Pinball Party
>Pirates of the Caribbean

This was the first chance I had to spend a lot of time playing Black Rose, and I like it a lot. Probably the best use of a player-controlled cannon in pinball, and a good layout overall. The only negative is that the video modes are kinda dumb, particularly "Walk the Plank" being nothing but mashing a button.

I also haven't been able to play Simpsons or Pirates in a while, and I'd forgotten how good they both are. Simpsons might have the best layout of any Stern game in terms of creativity.

What pinball have you been playing recently?
>>
I'm assuming video pinball and stuff like Visual PinMAME is included in the discussion?
>>
Any /toronto/ here? I need to know where I can find and play a pin in the downtown/midtown area.... I know there's some games at the Playdium in missasauga, but that's such an annoying trip for me, and I heard its closing down soon to be replaced with a more standard 'arcade' filled with redemption games.

real tables wise fish tales and jokerz. That simpsons game is super comfy i played one recently it's almost to easy. Simulation wise Pro pinball timeshock ultra as always, best pinball game of all time easily.

Played Mary Shelley's Frankenstein a couple days ago. Seemed like it had weak flippers, I couldnt get up the ramp.

>>
>>4085946
Been playing a lot of Earthshaker. Trying to beat the grand champ score of 20 million, but I always seem to cap around 14.5 million. I keep getting second place in scores.
>>
Got to play a lot of Dialed In and Aerosmith last night. Dialed in was a lot of fun. Decent shots, fun modes. Aerosmith was way too open for me, but the art looks great
>>
>>4085986
Fuck that fucking cunt. Credit dot on every single machine, sells all the good machines, jacks the price up to 75 cents on machies from the 70s, $1 on anything from the 90s or newer, and $1.25 on anything from recent years.

Takes all the money and runs, shuts down forever. Employees know they're about to lose their job and start sexually harassing customers. Piece of shit fake arcade. Doesn't even exist anymore since she took everyone's money and ran. Closed forever.
>>
>>4088215
Anything would feel open after playing a Lawlor game, with every single shot blocked.
>>
>>4088215
This Saturday I'm going to a place where I can finally try out Batman '66 and Aerosmith. I played Dialed In about a month ago, but not enough to get a solid grasp on the rules. Seems really cool, though. Good variety of shots, and it's great to see an original theme, even it's a kinda goofy theme.

The Jersey Jack game I've been the most impressed with so far is Hobbit. Feels like a fusion between the LotR table and Medieval Madness. The target banks and pop-up creatures encourage some great precision shooting, and it seems like a deep game overall.

Not sure if anyone around here is from RVA, but if so, Richmond Pinball Collective just opened up a few weeks ago. They've got about 20 games. Easily the best pinball spot in the area.

It's closed forever. Got shitty toward the end when they knew they were going to close. Sold off all the good stuff at top dollar to suckers who wanted their first pinball machine. Jacked up prices for credits Then closed forever. Had some sort of final sale but only the dilapidated stuff in the back was for sale.
>>
>>4088536
Oh also it was all over some sort of intransigence regarding the landlord. He wanted 3Ă— the money per month for rent.

Rather than moving the arcade she seems to have handled things in the manner in which she was accustomed—pure autism.
>>
>>4088332
Just get one imported from Europe or something. Or from America. They cost $5000 US dollars though so they will cost more Australian dollars. Shit's not a cheap machine, you could get a New In Box Stern for the same.

VPX AC/DC Premium Luci though
>>
>>4096417
I thought people wanted to talk about VPinMAME here? Now I find the best pinball ever that's been eluding us all this time and no one's into it. These shits are dank. 4 versions, Premium / Luci / Back in Black / Let There Be Rock.

Using javier15's table as a base, this guy hiding out at the third Visual Pinball locale has the goods. Talking about Metallica Premium also, coffin lock slamming your ball down into the table and shit. These are high quality tables.

The physics is tight. Even the viewing angles have been perfectly honed to let you see everything, much better than the PM5 AC/DC Pro angles. Can see everything, accomplish everything. Like a real table. Can't recommend this table enough. Lyman's mango opus.

Only thing is it's so good that VPX 10.3 crashes when loading it sometimes.
>>
I will see the new Stern Star Wars table in a couple of days. It will be the first unveiling. The race to get the first video is on.

"This is one of my favourites tables, one of the best tables Stern ever produced. You will find several versions of this table: Premium, Back In Black LE, Let There Be Rock LE and Luci. You need VPX 10.2, the latest vpm and the latest db2s, you will find them here: http://vpuniverse.com/forums/topic/2687-code-change-to-enable-sam-le-driver-board-support/
For the complete rule set go here: http://pinballarcadefans.com/showthread.php/4761-For-Those-About-to-Rock-AC-DC-Premium-LE-v1-65-Ruleset Or here to download the “condensed” pdf version: https://images.pinside.com/5/04/69/50469eb84c28a30f904c314b49fe256862734f5c.pdf
I would like to thank javier for let me continue this table, which is based on his PRO version. Big thanks also to DJRobX: without him, this table wouldn’t exist. I also would like to thank: -dark for the bell base model; -zany for the flasher domes; -tom tower for the LE apron; -knorr for the laser mod; -rysr, Peter J and javier (again ) for the help with the pics. -rom and zedonius from some resources I used from their FP version; -the VPDevTeam for the freaking amazing VPX"

theres a bar about an hour away from me with an EM pin, Fishtales, jackbot, Spiderman VE, Avengers LE, and ghost busters Pro
i wanna go down there but i'm in a penny pinching situation right now

also trying to save up money for a pin

But i'm interested in high roller casino, Simpsons pinball party, iron man, every post 2012 stern aside from x men, avengers, and mustang, and WWE, less interested in kiss.
all of Jersey Jacks pins, and heighways Aliens

I've been thinking about when the turning point was, and I think you're right. 2007-2012 was when Stern games were pretty crap, and the stuff before and after that period was generally good. AC/DC was the first one I played that got me thinking, "Oh shit, this is actually great!"

Casualfag here, always loved pinball but actually finding a table was always hard so I never played except every once in a while. Can I get suggestions on the best retro pinball videogames?
>>
>>4100728
For simulations of real tables, there's Visual Pinball, which requires a fair amount of setup but is overall excellent. There's also Pinball Arcade which offers convenience and uniform table quality at the cost of significantly poorer physics.

For video games with original tables that are still realistic, there's:

>Pro Pinball series
>Slam Tilt
>Pinball Dreams/Fantasies/Illusions
>Addiction Pinball
>Super Pinball 1 and 2
>Digital Pinball Last Gladiators/Necronomicon
>Balls of Steel

After playing a bunch of them at a big arcade show, I've really come to love those late 70s - early 80s Bally games. The focus on building up the bonus so it will carry over to the next ball with the "super bonus" is a lot of fun. My local place used to have Xenon for a while, but Silverball Mania is probably my favorite.
>>
>>4102835
Nope, Visual Pinball is the closest to real life physics and deep tables you can get because it simulates real tables with 1000 physics calculation updates per second. Did Keith P. Johnson code for your babby's first video pinball? Did Lyman F. Sheats Jr.? NOPE.

Awesome game. More so than even the other early DMD games, it feels like a "lost" System 11 game that came out of hiding in the early 90s. The "multi-multiball" is great, the more started at the same time multiplies the jackpot. Even the video mode is one of the better ones. Overall my favorite horror themed game along with Haunted House and Monster Bash.

>>4105985
I don't know about that. It's got a lot more going on than an average System 11 game.

It's a very underappreciated game. It plays a lot like F-14, with its near symmetrical playfield. The ball locks are cannons that shoot the balls across the playfield. It also has a bagatelle game in the (massive) backbox. Used to be one near me, but the place that had it closed down.

>>4110552

I don't think anyone gets excited about video modes, although some are kinda cool, like the werewolf shooting in Dracula or the saucer attack in Attack From Mars. Certainly no one has ever been upset that a game didn't have a video mode, though.

>>4120060
I love em' they're mostly a guaranteed extra ball if you're not a retard.
>>
>>4119968
They're all either boring or control like shit. The worst offenders are games like Junkyard or Doctor Who where you can spend more time in video mode than actually playing pinball. There's only so much you can do with two buttons and a 128x32 display. Dracula is probably the one game where it's actually fun while being nice and quick.

Playfield Swap: Take more pictures than you think you need, use a rotisserie. Label everything. Take more pictures than even that.

Favorite Table: Gorgar, Metallica Pro, AC/DC Premium, Spectrum, and Cirqus Voltaire.

Pay / Career Path: I work through a company, but I'm the head of my department. I get paid $18 an hour, but I started out at $10, went to $12, then went to work for another company and was convinced to come back to this company for $18/h, full health benefits, paid time off, and a whole host of other things. I hit the fucking jackpot.

Otherwise, you'll be working for a fucking operator who doesn't care about you or the games. It's not great, but it usually pays about $10/h, and up.

Just be good with electronics, have a strong back, common sense, and street smarts as it is a classic "cash business", so things can be sketchy sometimes. You'll be dealing with laundromat owners to millionaires.
