What does /vr/ think about Swords and Serpents?
It's not very good.
It was shockingly good for when it came out. I loved the split screen with the first person of the dungeon and the auto-map on the side.
Are the parts in the manual about targeting attacks with the d-pad and getting attacks in between enemies' by button mashing total bullshit? Because they've always seemed like total bullshit to me.

To this day I'm not 100% sure about the targeting thing. The only enemies I have noticed the targeting kinda working against are spiders that seem to go down faster if you press down and A to target their legs and the zombie like guys who seem to take more damage if you target their head by pressing up and A but in case of latter it also seems that your attacks don't hit as often so it could actually be less effective than just attacking normally.
You CAN sometimes get extra attacks in by mashing the A button like madman but very rarely and it probably has something to do with your intelligence and/or agility stat.
Want something that is complete and utter bullshit? The back of game's box talks about FOUR character classes with the fourth being "mystic" that definitely isn't in the game.
Pretty good dungeon crawler for a NES game.
Just wish the automapper didn't reset every 2 floors or whatever. I get it, limited memory, but they could've figured out something. Or at least designed the game around the restriction.
Bump for opinions or possible ideas on what to attempt to do to this game if I attempt to hack/fool around with it.
One thing that has always seemed "wrong" to me is the prices of Plus 2 and Plus 3 Swords, latter is way better than former but only costs half the price of former.
