You're not going to get a ton of attention if your only aspiration is to imitate the classics. The only RPG Maker games that get talked about outside of the RPG Maker community are the weird ones, like Yume Nikki and Lisa. But you can still find a more limited audience if you're good enough. Look at Hero's Realm, for example.

VIII has a better instrumentation than VII, and some tracks are top-tier like the Castle, Maybe I'm a Lion, the Man with the Machinegun or the Extreme, plus tons of comfy themes for places.

As much as I love FFVI soundtrack, all the Playstation games have good music.
