Been a minute and these threads are always good.
I played the shit out of Karate Champ before there was Street Fighter. Some guy down the corner from my house has a cab in his garage that I saw (untagged) during a garage sale, perhaps the very same one I put so many quarters in.
Then through sheer chance, this girl I know was living in this black dude's mom's house along with an additional couple and the dude from that couple is related to the people in that house. We were drinking "moonshine" and I found this out and additionally that they wanted to sell it so maybe I should have asked at the sale. Been waiting for word to creep back that I should throw them a low ball but a bunch of drama has happened with those people since then, the black dude and that dude's girlfriend are a couple now.
This arcade manager looks just like my half-jew bro who was my best man.

I was born just late enough that arcades fell out of favor here in the US. By the time I was old enough to appreciate the act of visiting an arcade, they were all gone from my town. Now the best I can hope for is some tiny corner of a restaurant with like a boat racing game or a hunting simulator.
Wish I could find a place like this, I envy you.
EM games are fucking OLD

That Time Out arcade is pretty representative of how arcades looked when I was allowed to go to them unsupervised. I missed out on shady ass arcades like pic related where drug deals and hookups happened. I was just teased enough to be fascinated with the culture by the small arcades at the skating rink and lake snack bar/dressing room. I'm sure some FUN shit happened in or around that structure but it was torn down by the time I was a teenager.
>>4076174
Then just look at the purty pictures or better yet, contribute!
>>4076171
I forgot to mention that Cedar Point has a huge and very authentic arcade. I don't know if you're anywhere near it but if you are, check it out. It really gives me an arcade game fix and I worry one day they'll just tear it out completely.

There once was a time (in the 90's and early 00's) when every dingy bar had an arcade cabinet, and all the kids went there to spend time and money.
Countless stories of theft, fights and assorted weird shit can be told of such places.
Now arcade cabinets are pretty much concentrated in shopping malls where they charge literally 'bout tree fiddy for a token.

I just found a bunch of old VHS tapes that my family had in storage. I'm going through them to see if theres any stuff they want digitally backed up.
First one I looked through:
>The Tailor of Panama full movie
>Some TLC Murder special
>An episode of the amazing race with a couple of gays
Also found a tape that my brother and I made of playstation game cinematics, which iirc is either metal gear solid, or more likely resident evil 2.
Would anyone be interested if I posted snippets from old commercials or anything?

I remember when Mortal Kombat cabinet came out in our local bowling alley. Kids at school were talking about this game where you can rip the head and spine off of a guy and everyone was so hype, We would go to the bowling alley and watch people play just hoping and praying that someone would do a fatality. There was even rumors of fatalities that didn't exist and some kids would debate if Sub Zero's spine pull was even real.
I still have my original Mortal Kombat tshirt, I'm sure I have a few old pics somewhere of me wearing it back int he day but I'll have to go through some old pics and look.

since 911 was chosen as the emergency phone number, it has to do with numerology 9-11 the 9 means and end and the 11 means the start of something new, but it skips the 10 so it means "to end things as they are and bring them to the next level"
they was planning it as early as the two towers were built actually

It makes perfect sense if you know what our familiar "arabic" numerals look like when actually written in arabic. When put together, the 11 looks like the silhouette of two tall buildings, and the 9 forms a crude fireball and smoke trail.
>>4087548
Nobody's gonna dox you from a pic of a little boy, but you've gotta figure somebody will send some pretty gross, graphic comments your way after enough time. I don't know if that's supposed to be your child or what, but he were mine I wouldn't want pedo strangers salivating over pics of him and anonymously telling me about it.
My earliest memory is my dad lecturing me at an arcade for trying to put a token in a SFII machine without his permission.

Ah man, fuck me I haven't seen one of those in a while. I remember going to some weird mega arcade/restaurant in NC in either the late 90's or early 2000's that had one of those. Some sort of game where you shot soldiers on a beach or something? I only had a GBC at that point since my family wasn't keen on video games so it really blew my mind. I actually think that trip was what changed my dad's mind on video games to be entirely honest. He found some sit down cabinet shooting game where you fought an eel in a sunken ship and he kept begging me to play with him because he liked it so much. Wish I could remember the name of that game, I'm sure he'd be happy about it.
Come to think of it, that trip really must have changed his view on games entirely since we got a PS2 for Christmas either the same year or shortly after.

I'd say its not him. Study the wood to the right and top of his head in the new pic. There's no pattern like that anywhere in the old pic. Also look at the board width. In the new pic starting from the 2nd board from the right, it goes small-med-large (moving left), that's not how it goes in the old pic
>>4102692
Hmm, no tattoos or Kissinger goggles spotted.

Hillary Clinton was a real babe back then.
>>4102692
hair leads me to believe it's from the 2000s and it's clearly a digital picture but who cares
>>4104201
The redemption tickets look pretty dated, not "vintage" as such but late 90s or very early 2000s perhaps.

My nephew narrates every moment of his gameplay, becaws wootowbe. This is great idea.
>>4107572
Heh. You looked like a girl.
>>4107572
bit early to start trapping isn't it
>>4107994
Everything about the pic is fem to me, other than the toys. The way the subject holds and looks at the gameboy suggests "girl" to me, so I suspect we may have "a live one."
What's he playing?

>>4107578
is it feasible to have a kid these days and prevent them from ever being exposed to that garbage?
>>4106881
my fetish
>>4110982
Sure, no internet for your children.
>>4110982
Sure, you could make him into a weirdo that other kids don't have anything at all to talk about with OR you could watch and play with them and give them your own perspective first and foremost but also let them see the popular perspective too
>>4110982
Not unless you have them on total lockdown and don't allow them to associate with other children. Because someone will get them into it.
It's like how occasionally I wonder what would have happened if I wasn't given that NES all those years ago, but then realize that since literally every single friend I had in my childhood also had a NES it was inevitiable that I'd be exposed of Vidya at some point.

My friend had a big screen TV like that when we were kids, but they wouldn't let us play video games on it because they thought video games would ruin the TV. Oh my god, I wanted Smash Bros. on that thing so bad.

my uncle played Space Invaders with Lemmy in a bar in NYC that Motorhead was playing at.
>>4080327
thats actually pretty funny
>>4114710
That's an awesome story. most uncles just listen to Motörhead or work at Nintendo. My uncle was the first adult I knew that played video games. I loved him and he showed me Doom on his PC one time. He also gave me all his NES games. He died from drugs like many cool people. I'm not nearly as cool of an uncle myself.

these covers are classier than any 'woman' in the current year. You can see they still had self respect back in the old days.
