The real bullshit part for me on lion king was the lava stage. Most of the levels on that game are annoying though, and the controls are so-so.
I feel like the only enjoyable levels are the first one, and the first one as adult kimba (that one probably being the best one, also in terms of atmosphere).
Level 3 is also enjoyable, but I don't really care for the rest.

The problem was I couldn't understand which was the background or the platforms. It was pretty confusing in the running part, even in later levels it is.
The graveyard, i think, you can barely see shit because it is way too dark. And there is a later level where bats start flying and then some tiny lava dropping out of nowhere.

Always thought that master system was better experience though and the soundtrack even more.

The issue with the monkeys was KNOWING that they change position when you roar at them. The game gives no indication that this is possible.

The second roadblock was the giant rocks on level 5, where you have to perform an obscure maneuver that involves a combination of buttons (rolling), that most players only triggered randomly and had no clue how to do it at will.

The third obstacle for progress was what you mentioned, the fucking logs on the waterfall, followed by a boss fight with that fucking ape. I still get angry just remembering, I hated that bastard so much, eating his banana, looking at you with a smug smile, and backhanding you if you got close.

The final roadblock is one that held me back for years, on level 8, you were supposed to let a falling rock destroy the ground to proceed, but for it to work, you had to remain on the same screen as it.

I always hated the fight with the full sized King with Megaman, because you have to jump on this platform and shoot nearly perfect charged shots at his fucking face for what seemed to be like hours.
Maybe I'm just stupid and I missed something that makes the fight easier, but back when I was 10 this was the reason I played most of the time as Bass.

It's not really "harder" as such; it's an unforgiving, 1-mistake-and-you-are-dead completely new game mechanic totally disconnected from any experience or skills gained during the rest of the game. In the SECOND TO LAST level.

It's bullshit. Turbo tunnel gets memed as fucking impossible for "regular" players, but not only it's perfectly doable with a little practice, it's actually fun as well

MM8 is my favorite of the "classic" series, but I can see why people don't like it.

For one, the robot masters are way too easy, especially when using the weapon they're weak against - you can essentially stunlock half of them to the point where they can't even touch you. In (most) previous games, they did extra damage but didn't give you such a gigantic advantage.
Another point of argument is the voice acting. Dear god, it's terrible. I never let it bother me myself, but a lot of people are turned off by it. Sure you can skip the cutscenes, but Mega Man and the robot masters never shut the fuck up.
Finally, there's too many auto-scrolling sections. I don't mind the JUMP JUMP SLIDE SLIDE sections - at least there's actual platforming to be had, and most people complaining about them just suck at videogames. It's everything else that's a chore to get through (like the flying Rush sections that take an eternity - Tengu Man's stage is so goddamn boring because of it).

I'm not usually the guy who's genuinely entertained by bad movies or cringe compilations, but I enjoy the shit out of that era of Capcom's VA. MMX4 is also quite good. RE4 has its moments too.

I agree with you about the bosses.

The thing I really like about MM8 is you have a lot of upgrades to choose from. Why they didn't implement this in X4 is beyond me. Yeah, you can pick between 2 different buster upgrades for X, but it's the only real choice you have. I could fantasize all day about what kinds of things would improve the formula of the X series, like randomizing where upgrades/heart tanks/e-tanks are, but we'd be here all day.

At least you can make every MM8 playthrough a little different.
