...... I don't have enough strength,
Give yourself to God
Pray to God! Praise God!
You must become God's strength......
>>
Are you working? You are working hard!
>>
What a bland game that despite its many perks somehow only achieves mediocrity.
>>
>>4061483
at least kitty is good
>>
>>4061483
it has better characters and story than most snes rpgs
>>
>>4061342
Check the catalog, we already have a general BoF threads for all the games.
>>
>>4061342

Bagina, heh.

Is that supposed t be this guy? Why is he talking to Ryu like that? Whats his story? How did he escape from under the dragon?
>>
>>4062972
i dunno. and what the fuck is Nikanoru?
>>
>>4062972
Yes, Barubary. He didn't escape the dungeon, Ryu and Bow entered it (as kids). Small monsters could escape or enter the dungeon, it's just the big ones that were trapped.

I loved how you could show Barubary some sportsmanship and opt to fight him on your own. I like when bosses have something personal against you, and are not just obstacles in your journey.
>>
>>4062994
It's a reference to Gabriel García Márquez's book El Otoño del Patriarca, where "Nicanor" is the name Death uses to call those who are going to die.

>>4063005
He's talking about how Barubary, who appears to be inside Infinity a couple screens before Deathevn, also appears on that cave at the start of the game. It makes no sense because Infinity is sealed by two different gates, the latter of which can only be opened by Ryu and is only opened at the very end of the game, and yet Barubary is somehow capable of running around anywhere without regard for either seal. It's one of the game's plot holes.
>>
>>4061483
>bland game
I mean, the translation is bafflingly terrible and the game as a whole is dated, but I don't think you can accuse it of being bland. The graphics and music are great, and there's lots of small features like shaman combinations and town building that make it enjoyable.

Also it has Katt.
>>
>>4063179
Thing about town building is that there is only one solution of setting up NPCs. Basically if you don't get a bakery and a weapon shop you're fucked.
>>
>>4063186
You're not fucked, those are just exploitable. You don't need them.
>>
>>4062919
Not true, and it wouldn't be saying much if it was true anyway.

>>4063179
Yeah, and despite all that those mechanics the game is still pretty boring. It's like the most elaborate JRPG to attain mediocrity despite everything it tries.
>>
>>4063216
Hmm, I disagree, and I think the fact that the series endured for much longer is a testament to the game's quality. There are many much worse JRPGs on the system. Would I rather be playing FF6? Sure. Would I play through BoF2 today? Probably not. In 1994, it was a good game.
>>
>>4063216
It's still an interesting with some good ideas. Overall I kind of agree with you, I find it overall kind of tough to return to BoFII now, but I still appreciate the ambition. If anything I am thankful as BoFII allowed us to get BoFIII, BoFIV, and BoFV which are all great games.
>>
>>4063240
5 has sold fuck all and it's where the series stopped for good 10+ years. Very bland artstyle, graphics and tedious gameplay based on alleged replayability. Setting is generic as fuck.
3 is as much slog as is 2 despite being easy. The last half of the game is unmemorable and filled with filler minigames just to slow your progress without any plot connections. Let's not feign forgetfulness here, buddy.
4 is way too easy where you never get to the point of using so much praised battle system to its alleged potential.

To the other retards ITT calling 2 on being unplayable today: 2 has randomizer patch released, and has anti-grinding patch released as well, so that should be an absolute non issue even to the likes of you.
>>
>>4063342
Wow, these are terrible opinions, I'm impressed.
>>
>>4063342
Still all better then BoFII. I would rather have easy but well crafted games then a game difficult for all the wrong reasons. Also fan made patches are a bit of a shitty to argue a game has more replayability, everyone is talking about the base game in general.
>>
>>4063179
>Katt
Seeing how the remake of Crash handles things and how people finally started to appreciate Coco, I kind of wish there was a remake of Breath of Fire II at least by a semi-competent dev. Imagine people reaction to Katt, that appreciation that was once stolen from her by circumstances coming back.
>>
>>4063365
Do you act like a monkey in the real life too? Don't feign ignorance here on me, buddy. The things I mentioned regarding at least 3 and 4 are objectively the truth and I am not gonna say them again just for you. You are just blinded by whatever you got it there are a kid, nothing else to add. Now you just pretend that fan patches don't matter, not even taking a glimpse at them... You are a hell of a person, need to say.
>>
>>4063362
I am pretty sure most BoF fans will agree on Quarter (not 5) being the worst game in the series.
>>
>>4063378
>objectively the truth
lawl

>>4063379
Speak for yourself, it's personally my favorite. I think it's a unfairly maligned work of genius.
>>
Speaking of 3, Rhapala or whatever it was called segment was slow and tedious without any actual events happening, I am not sure how people defend that. Threw the game at that moment, so I am not sure if there's anything else like this in the game.
>>
>>4063381
Fuck off from Breath of Fire II thread then.

>>4063378
No, those flaws are true. BoFIV is my favorite and I agree, it is too easy. It also has some shitty padding near the end and there is little insentive to experiment with the dragon system as the default one works well.

All that said it is still a solid game with a top quality combat system, soundtrack, story, and art design.
>>4063381
Even those that despise it know that it is better then BoFVI. Anyone who would evem try to argue BoFVI isn't the worst shouldn't be taken serious.

I think over time BoFV has warmed up to more people. I also really like it and think its reputation is undeserved.

Also I hate to be that guy but let's maybe try to move disscussion to this thread >>4058361 to avoid cluttering the catalog.

There's a re-translation patch that has been around for, like, 8 years:
http://www.romhacking.net/translations/1384/

As for gameplay there're:
http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/1166/
and
http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/1180/

Monster editor should work with both versions (original and re-translated), but randomizer only works with original.

As for graphics, BoF2 has one of the best graphics for the system, it doesn't need anything.
>>
>>4063405
>that gif
>not completing the fight solo
>>
>>4063226
How about Glory of Heracles? Shin Megami Tensei? Live-a-Live?

There are many more obscure games than BoF2 that are leagues better than it. It's not the worst game on the system, just a painfully average game with latter-era SNES JRPG mechanics.

>>4063342
It has nothing to do with grinding lol

The game is just boring and forgettable.
>>
>>4063958
Live-a-Live might be the only that stands.
>>
>>4063175
>El Otoño del Patriarca

thank you, i've wondered about this for years
>>
>>4063980
>implying Glory of Heracles IV is less playable than BoF2
I doubt you've even played it.
>>
>>4061342
I'm playing this in a DSlite that's advance compatible, and I'm stuck in the statues tower.

old.

I challenge you kattfags to list three reasons why you like her "character" that don't involve her appearance.
>>
>>4064267
He has never even played the games, you seriously think he has? He likes her for her appearance only, as simple as that.
>>
>>4063958
>Glory of Heracles? Shin Megami Tensei? Live-a-Live?
None of which were available in English in the 1990s, Anon-kun.
>>
>>
>>4064694
Neither was BoF2
>>
>>4064694
I know.

Do you think we are still in the nineties? How is that relevant
>>
>>4066853
>Do you think we are still in the nineties? How is that relevant
I'm saying in context, the game was decent. I played it (still own the cart from then) back in the day, when JRPGs on the SNES were few and far between. Today, in hindsight, with all the fan translated games available -- yes, there are better games than BoF2. But back then, there weren't as many options. And I still think it's worth playing for fans of the genre. The person bringing up SMT and other fan translated games is disregarding context.

>>4066816
>Neither was BoF2
what? Oh, are you making a joke about the translation?
>>
>>4061342
Looking back, this game was pretty edgy for its time.
>>
>>4067118
Not really. The message isn't about religion in general being evil but about how it allows for easy manipulation of the masses.

Time to replay.

How did I miss them both? Don't want to make Sam mistake

Shamans are in dungeons, in some cases you have to back to a dungeon after you've finished it
People for the village are in towns, though most are useless

Wow, some meaningless information. Also this person has some of the most generic taste I have seen. These are probably the five blandest picks you could make, they probably don't even play fan translated games.

I'd agree with the one dude. BoF 2 was the tits.
w/e people think it's the shits. I like it.

Played the absolute fuck out of BOF2. Even bothered to get the Boombada spell, along with the 9tailswhip and the NoTwinRP.
And still no Goo King Sword in 3.

I wasn't saying saying BoFII was shit, I just don't understand the relevance of that list. It's just some guy's pretty generic list of top five snes jrpgs.
>>4070667
>grinding for the goo king sword
Absolute mad man. I believe there is a easier way to do it with the fairie village. I'll typically get the holy avenger and a few of the other ultimate equipment but the goo king sword is just too tedious even for me.
>>
>>4070701
Yeah, oddly enough I don't have the patience to deal with the number guessing game in the fairy village, but I don't mind killing thousands of NightRiders and Zodiacs for rare drops. Honestly, Boombada was the one I had the most difficulty with...
