Is there a quick and dirty way to further enhance the visual quality of FF7 for PC? Mainly talking about the 2012 rerelease, I can run the game at 4k, but the engine filtering still pretty much sucks all around which is to be expected I suppose.

I could manually enhance all the in game textures right? How would I go about doing that? I'd need to rip the textures with something, and inject them back in right?

Thanks.

Somehow recording FF7 at 4k is really hard to do.
>>
Just give up. The backgrounds are fucking sub 240p, nothing you can do can make that shit look pretty. Get used to the wonky artstyle, in a way it's kinda quaint.
>>

I'm trying to get the highest quality FF7 footage I can. Upping the resolution mostly just makes the models look sharp as fuck
>>
it's too bad all the shit was probably not preserved or a remake could literally have been just a modern high-res resolution re-rendering of all of the existing cg backgrounds, but because they din't preserve their hard work it all has to be redone

Opening Credits in 4k, not much I know, just a test upload really, didn't even remember to trim it

If I can get the in game looking better I'd be a happy man.
>>
>>4058110
Testing some more recording if I go any lower on my settings the footage looks worse than if I were just doing top quality 1080p
>>
>>4057972
Just render the game out to no more than 480p and get used to the pixels. Sharp as fuck models on top of blurry as fuck backgrounds just looks awful.
>>
>>4058137
But if I record at 4k, when it downsamples it's sharper than usual

yes. Buy a free crt off craigslist and play it on PSX via composite cables.

the way developers intended

Yeah thats kinda what downsampling does.
>>
>>4058284
Which is why I want to record the gameplay at 4k, my CPU was at stock before, I'm sure overclocking is going to help
>>
>>4058295
What harddrive are you running?

Using OBS right?
>>
>>4058319
Recording to an SSD to avoid any bottlenecking, CPU is an R7 1700 at 3750mhz

Just recorded a chocobo race, overclocking seems to be all I really needed. now if I could just rip the textures and improve them somehow. Going to see if overclocking will let me step up the recording quality just a bit more, it's not quite native looking, about 90% there, not sure why I'm such a videophile atm.

Takes like 15 minutes to process for 4k to be available, fuck that sombrero wearing motherfucker.

OBS Ultra fast, CRF 30 atm, trying for 28 in a second. I need threadripper in my life.

looks awfulOP. you should stop.

No one else has 4k FF7 footage on youtube, so if I can produce it I will gives me an excuse to play the game again, obviously the game was never meant to run at 1080p, let alone 4k, but it still enhances it a bit when downscaled.

>>4058327
The chocobo race is now in 4k on youtube, sharp as fuck.

I'm stupid I uploaded the wrong thing, both of those were 4k downscaled, this is 480 vs 4k downscaled, 4k is cleaner even at 480

the 240 pixels look fucking identical. you are autistic dude.

No way, look at the CHOCOBO on the left vs right, left has jaggies, cloud is the biggest difference, way more pixels going from 4k down to 480

It does, but it's not like we have any better alternatives.
>>
>>4058467
holy kek you are autistic. Cloud is the only thing that will look different because hes a polygon.
>>
>>4058516
You're blind if you can't see the improved sharpness overall.
>>
>>4057972
CRTs are pretty much the only thing that makes prerendered backgrounds look okay. Low res images meant to be displayed on low res screens with scanlines. No amount of blowing them up to higher resolutions will make it look any more than very vaguely sharper
>>
>>4058932
But assuming I could rip/inject the backgrounds I could potentially touch them up if it's just an image file, well I guess they're animated so it's a few image files
>>
>>4058937
I suppose that's possible I normally play FF7 on PSX so I have no idea about the file system they use for the PC versions
>>
>>4058942
I searched through the game's files but there's no obvious texture files I could find for the 2012 release
>>
Does anyone have any clue where I could start with ripping and injecting the background textures? Its the only thing I really need to change if I want the quality higher

No. You wasted your money. Now get back to /v/ where you belong.

Um, no I have an RX 480 and 1080p display, I can use VSR to make my display into a 4k display, but nice try.
>>
>>4060076
You have no idea what you are doing or talking about.
>>
>>4060093
I don't when it comes to modding FF7 no
>>
In any event while I can't fix the textures at this time, I can now properly record 4k game play, assuming you ever needed to see final fantasy 7 in 4k
