It's time to discuss Sega. Let's make this interesting: if you had to give Sega three tips during the development of the Saturn to make it not flop, what would they be?
>>
Don't release before Playstation....
>>
>>4057487
This, and alternatively: don't release it in the west, at all.
Saturn survived in Japan but there's no way it could survive the west any way you look at it, the reason is the PS.
So I'd say, release the Saturn in Japan and Asia only.
Focus on your arcade scene in the west instead of the console market.
Sega missed an opportunity with many of their games and series. Daytona USA is probably THE most popular arcade game in many countries, even more popular than SF or KOF games. Keep the franchise alive and promote national tournaments. Sega-sponsored tournaments would have been a hit in many places where tournaments were regular but never official. Some of them were televised (in Argentina they had monthly televised Daytona tourneys, I think they did over 100).
Make more Daytona games, people kept playing the 1993 one until the 2000s, and Daytona 2 went so under the radar that many people don't know it exists.
Release Dreamcast in 1999 and hope for the best against PS2.

Probably the outcome would still be the same though, PS is too big of an opponent.

>How to make the rivalry between SoJ and SoA even worse the posts.
>>4057483
It was fucked regardless.
>>
>>4057493
What has the fabled "rivalry between SoJ and SoA" has to do with the fact that the Playstation exists?
>>
>>4057493
Soj didn't want the console out until Christmas, they criticized soa for releasing it too early and fucking up the time frame for game devs

1. Instead of making 32X cartridge based games make it a Sega CD attachment with no cart slot. Don't market it as a 32 bit system but the ultimate 16 bit console.
Could call it the Mega CD 3D Accelerator, or 3DA attachment.

2. Later release an all in one system when hardware prices go down.

3. Keep supporting both consoles, CD games are easy to press and you can always make a game run on both Sega CD and use extra processors or just the extra CD hardware.
>>
No dual-core architecture.

No $399 price tag.

Localize your damn Japanese games.
>>
>>4057492
I think the Saturn might have had a chance if they didn't release early, and if they didn't try to prolonge the life of the dieing genesis
>>
>>4057483
1) Have some sort of compatibility with the 32x with the cartridge slot because their original goal was to support both systems at the same time

2) Make the 3D control pad the main controller

3) Release it when originally promised and not piss off retailers by releasing it in advance
>>
Why 32x could'nt run on Saturn ??
>>
1. Do everything in your power to not let 32X get released in the west
2. Listen to Tom Kilinske's judgement and let him do what he can for the Saturn campaign
3. Localize Japanese games.

Unironically uninteresting

what's wrong with you?

yeah these threads are nothing new since the board inception

wow, you prove to me how old you are anon

If I could go back in time and be in charge of SEGA:

>don't release the CD
>don't release the 32X
>make Saturn easier to develop for
>really focus on arcade ports
>really dig at Nintendo for not having a CD console, brag about being with the times
>localize more Japanese games
>push the release of the Dreamcast back a year
>have Dreamcast games run on DVD roms
>have DVD movie functionality from the start
>stop supporting old consoles when releasing a new one (exception for developing or impoverished countries)
>cheap dev kits for delvelopers
>>

?

There have been millions of threads on how to "save" Saygar. You seem to be the little child here.

>if you had to give Sega three tips during the development of the Saturn to make it not flop, what would they be?
1 Throw the 32x in the fucking garbage no november of 94 release of it to fuck up your fan base by producing technology you just throw in the trash.
2 Spend every moment past 92 to focus on the saturn for a november 94 release beating the playstation by a year to market.
3 Make the 3 controller your main controller or better yet put 2 thumbsticks on it.
>>
1. Get the price down, maybe don't bother with dual processors
2. Work with Squaresoft
3. ???
Those two would give them the edge over Sony and only the second one would have given them a decisive win in Japan.
>>
>>4058285
>>don't release the CD
Why? It was released three years before the Saturn. It affected nothing.
>>don't release the 32X
I can understand this. In some regions it was released just before or just after the Saturn.
>>really focus on arcade ports
They did.
>>really dig at Nintendo for not having a CD console, brag about being with the times
They did this with Mega CD, but Nintendo was only competition in America.
>>
>>4057505
>Localize your damn Japanese games
I recall it was sega of america branch who decided to not localise rpgs.
>>
>>4057483
1. Don't design your 3D hardware in-house
2. When SGI offer you their graphic chip, accept it you stupid fucks.
3. See 1 and 2.
>>
>>4057483
1. Have a 3D Sonic game ready for the first year of the console's life
2. Price it at $299 or less at launch
3. Don't be gatekeepers of software if publishers are willing to release it and market it in the West.

-double the memory
-spend more money on marketing
-dont jerk off to loli tentacle porn so much during lunch breaks
>>
>>4057483
I haven't really touched saturn, but have a dreamcast. best tip aside from release after psx is FUCKING DONT USE CDRS/GDRS.
>>
when ps2 came out they should have released a smaller cheaper unit with a dvd player built in. it would have survived at least twice as long. I'm sure there's tons of logistical reasons why they couldn't do that but it would have worked.
