Hi again for newcomers and those who already know how this works. I'm an anon living in Japan who has started a new hobby of going to retro game stores and posting what I find and picking things up for other anons.

I will occasionally post new photos in these threads and update this Google photo account:
https://goo gl/photos/FbAuBSgb22L1rDLf6

I removed the "." from googl so please put it back in to follow the link.

Some anons have said that they really like these pictures but the point of the thread is not to blog so let me explain how it works.

1. I will post images in these threads and answer whatever questions people have.
2. If you are interested in something, let me know here or email me at [email protected]
3. I will give you a quote with the estimated total price (I take a 13% commission but I'm completely transparent about costs).
4. If you are interested in something we will come to an agreement and you will send the money to my paypal account.
5. I will send you your stuff with a tracking number.
6. You get your stuff for cheaper than ebay prices and have a great time.

I'm only going to make this OP for now but I will dump some pictures tomorrow. For those who are interested they are already in the Google photos account.

I'm sorry for everyone that I have already been in contact with for being so slow recently but I have been busy with work and I need to talk with my bank about depositing money from PayPal in my Japanese account because it has stopped working for the time being and I don't want to drain my bank account too much picking things up for people.

I have good news in that I recently found a store with many console only original Famicoms and Super Famicoms (console only) and various accessories for only 300 yen. I apologize for anyone who has received something from me already and paid more but I do the best I can to find you the lowest prices possible.

I hope you're all having a great week.

Again, my email is [email protected]

Are there people that would look for and sell rare arcade/computer parts to America? I've been in contact with a few ebay sellers but they don't seem to find much or wont look for stuff outside of console stuff.
>>
>>4057104
I'm not incredibly knowledgeable about computer components but I could at least look for you.

What exactly are you interested in?
>>
>>4057650
Preferably looking for ASUS and AOpen new old stock. Do you run into 90s era computer stuff or is it all newer?
>>
Hey guy, I'm traveling to Japan right now, going to Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto; what are some shops to look out for?
>>
>>4057709
You should go to Super Potato just to see, stuffs expensive there now, but it's one of the biggest stores there.

Akihabara is just a cool place to go. You'll inadvertently walk into an H-store and get weird looks from 50 year old business men buying futa VN's while you laugh with your buddy.
>>
>>4057721
I'll be buying that futa with them
>>
>>4057089
I'll be keeping you in my contacts for sure!
>>
>>4057707
I will take pictures of the computer section the next time I'm in a secondhand store.

There's a fair amount of 90's stuff.

>>4057709
If you want a good price try secondhand chain stores like Hard Off, Book Off, Comp Off and 2nd Street.
>>
>>4057721
>Haha..! Look, dude, she has a dick haha, that's so funny. I wonder who actually likes that stuff lmao... I think I'll buy it, just for laughs lol haha you know for a good laugh, it'd be so funny haha
>>
>>4057871
We were just going around on the second or third floor and went into the shop and it was an H-shop,. Literally no indication it was a pornshop.

>thinking I hate Futa
I've been beating it to Bible Black for like 15 fucking years. It wasn't the fact it was futa, it was more so that there were dozens of salarymen in there buying porn nonchalantly.

Hi OP,

I'm looking for a Mega Drive, preferably a Mega Drive 2.
Have you seen any?
If so how much?

Thank you got your time!

>>
Hey, OP. I'm on the hunt for a Super Game Boy 2, so let me know if you see any.
Also, I'm after a Game Boy Light, preferably in translucent green although Gold/Silver is just fine too.
>>
I don't think I can do this, but I'll try.
I'm trying to sell Guardian Heroes PAL version, and I want to know if anyone here is interested.
>>
I live in Osaka but I go to Tokyo every once in a while.

Do you ever see any Dreamcast VS link cables?

The area around me is lousy with Sega Saturns but not Mega Drives for some reason. Usually, when I see a Mega Drive it's about 4800 or 5800 yen for the console with the cables and one or two controllers. You can see two in this pic.

If I can find one in the junk section I can probably get it for you much cheaper but I haven't seen any there so far.

>>4058568
Glad it arrived safely. Some anons have been getting their stuff delayed by customs but as far as I know everyone has gotten their package eventually.

>>4058712
I haven't seen any super Game Boy 2's lately but I'm on the lookout for them.

I didn't actually know about the Game Boy Light but I may have seen some without realizing it. As usual, I will post what I see.

I'm nowhere near fluent but I can handle daily life and do things like reschedule deliveries over the phone. I have to use Japanese when talking to the store clerks because they almost never speak English but even if you don't know any Japanese you could just tell them the name of what you want or show them a picture and they would probably understand you.

Here's an SGB2, the one with the sale tag.
>>
>>4059062
Not yet unfortunately. That will go in hear threads as soon as I do.

For the anons that requested PS2s, I'm sorry about the wait. Like I mentioned in the OP I need to sort out something with PayPal so I can't drain my bank account too much right now. I should be able to pick some up by sometime next week.

>>4059297
I'm not a camera guy but I wouldn't be surprised if they were comparatively cheap, at least secondhand. There's a surplus of quality used electronics here.
>>
>>4059384
We'll damn, guess I should check my own pics.

I took these in a hurry because I didn't have a lot of time so I may have missed plenty.

I could pick this SGB2 up if anon is interested at that price. I already got a request by email though so I want to do this first come first served.
>>
>>4059396
I'd love to get it for that price, it works out to 2034JPY with your commission I believe.
>>
Do you ever see Game and Watches? If so how do they tend to be priced? Would you be willing to post to the EU if you did?
>>
>>4059405
Yeah, that's right as long as the price is before tax. I would guess shipping on that would be around ¥700-800 but I will k ow for sure once I weigh it.

>>4059410
I see them all the time. Prices vary from around ¥3000-6000 most of the time depending on the model. I can definitely post to the U.K. And have done so before. Which Game & Watches are you looking for?
>>
>>4059512
Sorry, I meant "I can post to the EU."

Of course, I can post to the U.K. too but I wasn't trying to be cheeky.

About ¥5800 I think.

The issue is that due to the weight of everything plus the box it would need to go in two different boxes or it could be shipped altogether for one high price.

Maybe not good deals for Japan but definitely good deals by global standards. Keep in mind that most of these prices are after tax and these stores often have membership cards and regular sales.

I recently found an in box twin stick in the "junk" section for ¥300 and an orange GameCube for ¥500.
>>
>>4061442
¥3800

>>4061443
It's like that in every big city for better or worse. Convenience stores keep the poem magazines on the rack next to the normal ones too. They just trust minors not to look at them. It isn't really an issue here.

>>
>>4061662
If it weighs more than 2000 grams the minimum shipping with tracking is ¥5000. Unfortunately, I can't do anything about that.

But one or two games would only be ¥700-¥800 for shipping unless they were something big like a Neo Geo AES cartridge.

>>4062052

Thanks, I'd like to help more but since I work full time I've been kind of slow getting back to some people and I apologize if it seems like I've forgotten anyone.

Saw a few in box but they were up there (around ¥10000 I think).

A store nearby has a Famicom one right now but I don't know the price. I will have to take a look.

Quick PSA: I recently found some working Super Famicom's system only for ¥300 each. Most of them have minor to moderate yellowing but a couple look pretty good.

I also saw a lot of OG Famicoms for ¥300 but most of them were yellowed. If you're interested let me know.

Find much OG Xbox stuff in japan? There's a lot of japan exclusives I'm looking for.
>>
>>4062152
Not that anon but in this situation there isn't really an advantage to using crypto besides getting customers who want to use crypto.

I use it for overseas business transactions to save on fees and as an investment, but if you're just doing friends and family paypal there is no fee.

IMO not worth getting into for this.

btw, how are you enjoying japan?
>>
>>4070506
It's just more abundant but I would say that the retro scene here isn't as wide reaching as in the US. Most of it is concentrated in the cities.

>>4070512
I've seen more recently but mostly stuff I already have (JSRF, DOA3, Wreckless, etc.). I see OG Xbox consoles and accessories too but a complete console usually starts at ¥4000 or more.

Haven't seen Sin Megami Tensei yet but I'm always looking.

>>4070524
Japan is great if you know what you're getting into. Don't expect people to cater to you and accept that you'll have to work hard to understand the language and you'll probably really enjoy it. My favorite thing is the excellent infrastructure (compared to America at least).

>>

I'd be very interested in getting a really nice AV Famicom and Core Grafx if they come with controllers and cables, also are the 6 button PCE controllers easy to find? I'm interested in the Avenue Pad 6 and Hori's PCE Fighting Commander.

¥4000-¥5000 out of the box. ¥8000-9000 in box. Duos are ¥20000-25000. That's for complete in good condition of course. Here is a picture of a Duo I saw recently. I think this price is before tax though.

>>4071346
I see 6 buttons sometimes but they range from ¥1580 to ¥2580. Sometimes I get lucky and find them for under ¥1000 though, they just need some cleaning. What is your price point on an AV Famicom? There are a few available near me now but the cheapest one (complete, no box) is ¥6800.

I'm pretty sure Yamatoku Classic makes money from overcharging for shipping on their smaller items.

I've bought lots of stuff from Yamatoku before but I went to their ebay store the other day and they're charging a minimum of $50 for postage on anything. I'm hoping they've just made some sort of error because what the fuck man.
>>
>>4071576
Most of their auctions end super low now so I understand that they have to make money somehow but it is pretty shady.

On the other hand, it costs at least 50 to ship a mid sized console complete and everyone always bitches if shipping isn't free.
>>
>>4071584
You expect to pay about that much shipping for a console though. I don't see how they can justify charging $50 shipping for a loose cart.

Incidentally a complete SFC without box is $92 postage. I've bought bigger things using EMS and never had to pay that much.
>>
>>4057089
Sounds like you got a pretty good thing going on here. I'm interested in a Mega Drive and Super Famicom at least. While I couldn't immediately use it, if 300yen Famicoms are still a thing I'd take one of those as well (if not, skip the Famicom, also skip it if it would add to postage costs) How much ya reckon that'd all be with postage to Tasmania?
>>
>>4071576
Yeah, I bought a lot from them about 3 years ago, and the shipping was $6 for a bare SFC cart. Now I see it is $14.
>>
>>4071624
As far as I know I can still find Famicom and super Famicom sat that price for now. I don't have an RF Switch to test the Famicoms though.

Are you looking for just the unit or the cables/controllers too. That brick of an AC adapter adds around 650 grams to the weight.

If I can get both in one box then shipping would be ¥2400 but if it goes over 2000 grams it shoots up to ¥5000.

In that case it would be cheaper to just put them in two different boxes which would probably total just over ¥3000.
>>
>>4071576
>>4071707
Wait is Yamatoku postage minimum $50 or $14?
>>
>>4071713
I'd rather use the correct power adapters with my step down convertor than using the local 240v equivilent and risk frying the console, so I wouldn't mind paying extra for the peace of mind. The controllers aren't very important, pretty sure they're compatible across regions, but the video cables would be useful. I'm not too stingy about paying a bit extra but if I were to drop anything from the package to save a few dollarydoos it'd be the controllers.

Too tired to think right now but I'll check this thread again tomorrow.

>>
>>4071725
I am in the USA, and I see $14 as the bare minimum they ask for shipping yesterday (it was $6 about 3 years ago).
>>
>>4071576
they also shill bid on every single auction, I would avoid buying from there. You can get better deals on untested junk without paying extortion level shipping prices.
>>
>>4072753
How likely to work is something that is untested. I always assumed untested meant "broken but I don't know what is wrong."
>>
>>4072781
I've recently purchase an untested Famicom and an untested PC Engine for peanuts from japan, both $30 or less shipped and they work great perfectly. For that matter, I've never had a Famicom I've ordered come dead (had one with a bad controller II, but I just removed it), and I have like, 7 or something. As long as it's not a notoriously flaky machine (CD-based systems, things that always have bad caps) the odds are in your favor, and if you have even an OK income you're not risking too much. Issues, should there be any are likely to be minor. I won't go much higher than $30 shipped on loose untested machines, but you can get some great deals that way.
>>
>>4072781
Forgot to mention, what you said is true with US sellers 100% of the time. With Japanese sellers they are literally unloading piles of these loose machines and are legitimately just not testing them. Some machines are bullet proof; NES, SNES, PC Engine, etc.

How much are N64 controllers?

I ask because Japanese N64 controllers were manufactured differently and (aside from more colors and alternate colors being common) they added used some different plastics and added lubricant to the joystick to prevent it from destroying itself and becoming floppy, as is common with most NTSC controllers.

OP here, I just want to give everyone a quick update. I feel like I've been overpromising and underproducing lately so I apologize if you've been waiting on a response from me and I have yet to get back to you. I really do want to help everyone but I haven't had much time to go hunting lately and of course some items will be easier to find than others.

I'm hoping to start catching up in July when I will have more free time but I will keep doing my best for the time being.

On another note, I was able to check out the laserdisc section and found some anime titles (Slayers, Gundam Wing Endless Waltz, 08th MS Team, 4 volumes of Initial D, Shin Getter Robo Armageddon, Dancougar and some Rurouni Kenshin disc). There wee also a ton of these Lum vinyl records. Everything was ¥100 each.

Sorry about the shitty angle of some of the pics, I was trying not to be seen taking them.

I will upload the rest to the archive in a few hours.

Both. Buying vinyl from Japan has been a nightmare for me. Shipping to the US is expensive and sellers get pissy when you ask if they're using a box and not a padded envelope.
>>
>>4074761
>vinyl in a padded envelope

Holy Hell, that sounds like a horror story waiting to happen.
>>
>>4074761
I buy records all the time from Japan and other countries and I've never had someone use a padded envelope. Those cardboard LP mailers are pretty standard. That would be grounds for a refund on eBay or Yahoo and probably Amazon.
>>
>>4074732
>Sorry about the shitty angle of some of the pics, I was trying not to be seen taking them.
Do stores get mad if they see you taking pictures? I mean, considering you're trying to see if people want you to spend money there, so they shouldn't get too pissy about it.

I also want to ask to see if, in your travels, you've come across bookstores that sell used tabletop RPG books. Specifically, I'm looking for ソード・ワールド2.0 books, and not really diggin' the prices I'm seeing on Amazon. Not really asking you to go out of your way to find them, but if you stumble upon one, shoot me an email and let me know.
>>
>>4072372
Hooray for those special Australia taxs, the tax because fuck you that's why.
>>
>>4074761
Buying vinyl from US to Europe is worse because of American shipping costs. Japanese sellers don't charge $20 for shipping one record.
>>
>>4075205
Not OP, but yes, retail stores really don't like people taking photos / recording video in them. This applies to more than just retail stores too, I would see big-ass "No photos / videos" signs in goddamn grocery stores and corner stores as well.

I'd imagine so, even stores in the US are pretty anal about recording

A Dreamcast complete with hookups would probably be 5000 yen or more but if I could piece one together from the junk section I could probably get you one for about 2000 yen, before shipping of course.

As for longevity, I honestly have no idea but I find Sega Saturns that still work all the time if that's any indication of the Dreamcast's lifespan.

>>4078747
You could let me know what system you need. Unless if it's really rare or obscure I might be able to find you one for cheap. Cheaper than you'll find on ebay anyway.

Public service announcement. I had a chance to get to some stores yesterday and found some things that people were looking for, I will contact you via email but also post some things in the thread just so that people can see.

Unfortunately I deleted the pics from the first store so I will have to just tell you what I saw here. The most significant things I can remember are:

A translucent blue N64 with the cords and a controller for 4800 yen

A Core Grafx unit with the cords and a controller for around 6800 yen. Unfortunately I can't recall the price exactly so it may have been a bit more. If it's still there next time I will take another picture.

Rob for the Famicom in the box for 4000 yen
Rob's gyroscopes in the box for 3800 yen (Unfortunately the cartridge was missing. Also, there may have been something affecting functionality because it was in the junk section but without the picture I can't check the label)

Seen these threads a few times and thought it's pretty cool you're doing it.

Not got anything /vr/ related for you to search for, just wanted to ask how it was you ended up there? Where are you originally from?

I've wondered about going over there to teach English, I'm not t the of fat neckbeard weaboo that wants to turn his back on his own culture stereotype or anything, just seems kind of appealing. Don't know how I'd get on, not knowing any Japanese, though - at least with European languages there are similarities to English.

I don't want to get too specific because I cherish my privacy but I don't mind answering general questions. I'm American and like most foreigners I've met here I was looking for a life change after feeling burned out with my career. Also like most foreigners I work in English teaching but I'm in the public sector so the conditions are good.

It's hard to give a general assessment of how you will adapt to life here but I will give some general knowledge based on first and secondhand experience. Regarding work, most people seem to start with English teaching (unless you're in coding or banking) and there are many types of jobs in that market. The easiest to get (and worst by far) are jobs with private companies, especially conversation schools or "enkaiwa." I can't speak from personal experience but I've never heard anything good about those places and they'll treat you like scum since there are a thousand people willing to take your place. If you're lucky you can get directly hired by the BOE of a city or prefecture but that's hard to do unless you already have work history in education and are fluent in Japanese. You could also try for the JET program but it's highly competitive and the application process takes more than half a year. I've heard mixed things about Interac but that's a private company that sends you to public schools in a dispatch system.

As for your reason, being a weeb might actually help you adapt as long as you have interest in "real" Japanese culture and not just pop culture . With that said, barring the language barrier it's still just another place and most people don't think about Japanese history and stuff like Kabuki on a daily basis.

If you have any questions you can send me an email. I'm happy to answer them but I want to keep these threads about the community instead of me.
>>
what do you work as in japan?

also, i'll be emailing you to see if you can find me something good

I'm not sure about usually but there was one for ¥2376 this weekend.

>>4080027
I will have to get back to you after I check but hopefully ¥10000 or less. Do you have a preferred color/buy price?

>>4080242
Haha, I haven't looked but I will post the next time I see them. Are you looking for the new model or OLED?

>>4080297
¥980 loose (system only) and around ¥3500 complete in good condition. AV Famicoms are about twice that.

Recently I've seen some loose Famicom a for ¥300. There's no RF Switch or AC adapter but the controllers are attached.

>>4080653
Usually ¥980 loose and console only but recently I've found some for ¥300. I can try to piece them into a complete set but there will probably be some yellowing. That would probably cost around ¥2100. If you want a good condition bundle sold by the store it would probably be around ¥5000.

>>4080675
Yeah, "Derest Eage" lighters. I never play those games though, you have to know the tricks to win. I could ship a lighter internationally but I would have to remove the fuel to conform with safety regulations.

Just wanted to put in a good word for the OP. If you guys are worried about how legit this is, don't. He posted these MSX games in a PC-Off a few threads ago, I took him up on them, and even with the commission and shipping and handling, the prices were well below ebay and even Yahoo Auctions prices. Shipping was provided with tracking, everything arrived in less than a week. So yeah, I can attest that the OP is legit and will actually hook you up for a great deal.

I looked at the photo archive. Used in box Vitas are around 15000 to 16000 yen. Loose is around 12000 to 13000. Brand new they would be full price (in the 20000 and up range).

What colors are you interested in?

I saw a picture with 3 Sega Saturn games at reasonable prices next to each other. If not for the HD retrovision cables and OSSC becoming available, I now do not have the money to ask them of Japanon.

I will still be on the lookout for images of:

easy mode
-Chrono Trigger OST

normal mode
NeoGeo Pocket Color games
Wonderswan games

hard mode
SuperGrafx

devil mode
Aiwa Mega Drive/MegaCD
Thanks Japanon, if anything, I just like browsing the pictures.

Alright, I can definitely get you some Wonderswan pics. What were thenSaturn games? Do you want clearer pictures? I mostly take pics of spines because of the time to shoot the front of everything plus it would be super obvious is the foreign person was individually photographing every game.

OP, I'm going to be in Tokyo for a couple months, where do you recommend looking for games outside of the Akihabara area? I've been to nakano too. Not looking to buy something specific right now. Pic unrelated
>>
>>4078904
Hmm I would personally prefer the Retail cart since i know for sure it would play on a non JP system via converters
Can't say that for sure with the Memory Cart from the Nintendo Power service

But thanks for looking out for it japanon

You are really kind and let no one tell you otherwise
>>
OP, I'll apologise in advance since this is very much not retro, but have you ever come across a copy of Elminage Gothic 3D Remix (3DS)? I've checked online in various marketplaces and the price is always absurdly high, even for used.
>>
>>4088357
I'm really not familiar with Tokyo, I've only been there a few times. However, I can generally recommend secondhand stores like the "off" brand (book off, hard off and comp off in particular) and 2nd street. You aren't guaranteed to find really obscure hardware like you will in Akiba but the prices are usually much better. Also, ask about making a point card. They're free and if you buy a lot you should be able to get at least a few dollars (or a few hundred yen) back.

>>4088384
That's understandable. Sorry if anyone got their hopes up. I think the store deliberately covered the label for that very reason.

>>4088542
Haven't heard of that game before so I'm not sure but I will take a look.

I'm glad people take care of there stuff in Japan and (usually) aren't hoarders when it comes to video games because they don't have the space. Everybody can enjoy these games, but the only way this can happen is if people are comfortable with giving up games sometimes and returning them to the lifestream, if you will.
>>
>>4089680
Brand new: Below ¥9000
Used: Below ¥4000
Unlikely for both cases though, pretty much everywhere I look it's expensive as hell. If you can't find it don't worry, I could just import it from Amazon, Solarisjapan, etc. Tbqh I don't wanna burden you since all the other anons here have their own requests.

Sorry to be so slow everyone. Caught a bit of a cold and fell behind on everything. I'll do my best to answer your questions now.

>>4089682
Last time I was at the store with cheap Famicoms there were some for 300 yen but no r/f switches. The Famicom is heavier than you'd think so shipping it with an A/C adapter may be tricky since I need to keep the total weight under 2000 grams for affordable shipping. Sending the console only to South America (including commission and the cost of a box) would probably be 1700 yen (2110 with tracking). With an A/C adapter I might be able to send it for 2100 yen (2510 with tracking).

However, keep in mind that tracking doesn't work once it reaches South America except with EMS.

>>4089690
I don't think so but there have been a few other variants like gold and the Pikachu one so I can take a look again. I'll post pics of whatever I see.

A/C adapters are easy (probably 300 or 500 yen) and if I'm lucky the N64 will have the expansion pack in it but it's all up to luck.

>>4089776
That one wasn't me actually but I can let you know if I see one. Regarding orange tip laws, I could always put orange masking tape over the barrel which could be removed later.

>>4089871
Lately I've been seeing them for 2580 yen but sometimes the plain colors are available for 1580. If I'm really lucky I can find some in the junk bin for 300 yen but they might have loose sticks. They would definitely need cleaning but it shouldn't be too bad.

>>4089971
It's actually one of the most routine and mundane places you could ever visit. Not knocking it but seriously, I meet fewer weirdos here than back in America.

>>4090187
No, sorry. They don't really carry things like that at the stores I typically visit but I might get lucky at some non-chain stores. Actually, I wonder what happened to them all because most of the time when I see arcades with old games they are clearly being emulated.
>>

>>

I think I've seen it around. I've definitely seen e-readers in the ¥100 bin.

>>4111038
I found one for ¥70000 once but the optical drive was slow. I imagine a good one would run around ¥13000 or more in the box.

I have no id a about the Roland. I wasn't even aware of those.

Sorry that I've been slack with pics. Next time I will try to get A/V equipment pictures too.

I have a friend in Tokyo a shame he doesn't speak english
And that part is suspicious
>>
>>4112460
It's possible that he's in Japan because of work-related reasons.
He probably has to leave so immediately because of something with work or his family.
>>
>>4112460
>And that part is suspicious
Hardly. I'm a Navyfag and have been to Yokosuka and Sasebo a bunch of times. I've met several people who've been stationed there for years and never bothered to learn Japanese because they could get by with most basic English on liberty.

Dollars to donuts the guy living in Tokyo is part of the JET program. Those fuckers are practically everywhere from Ikebukoro to Matsumoto.
>>

are they those poor bastards who get conned in to "teaching English" only to get forced to work for basically nothing?

I haven't really experienced any xenophobia. It's probably in part because I've just been lucky but I think that sometimes the xenophobia of Japan gets blown out of proportion because a lot of western tourists come here and they've never been a minority before. When you first come it can be difficult to find work or even rent an apartment until you've built up some history in Japan because people are (reasonably) afraid that you're going to flake like so many foreigners do and leave them without an employee/tenant.

As for being treated equally, I would say that yes, everything that is on paper and in my contract is the same but obviously I'm not the same as my coworkers so I can't expect them to just pretend that I am. Sometimes it's actually to my benefit because I don't have the same strict social expectations that my peers do.
>>
>>4117690
I also work in Japan.

Everyone loves me. Xenophobia is mostly in the super old people. I go to places like Cainz and I've overheard old people tall about foreign people as I walk by, thinking I don't understand Japanese.

How much is that Fire Emblem; Fuin no Tsurugi copy? (The one with Roy)
>>
>>4118165
Says right there for 4000 yen which is around 35 USD.
>>
>>4118383
This plus 8% consumption tax so ¥4320. This store doesn't put tax on the label.
>>
>>4118636
>8% tax
Wew
Still cheaper than ebay though
>>
>>4119123
It's going up to 10% next year. Abe delayed it due to consumer fears.

It's 8% where I'm from so I'm used to it but I know it's pretty steep for some people.
>>
>>4119557
I wish japan's economy wasn't so awful
>>
>>4121291
Blame banks continuing the trend of making money that doesn't exist and Japan having little agricultural trade between Western countries.
>>
Hey OP, do you happen to come across CRT televisions for sale? I'm interested in how common sets with 21 pin RGB inputs are, would like to get my hands on a smallish sized set.

Just got my package from Ishikawa thanks to based Japanon. Everything was intact, from the case to the manual and the extra spin slips you get. Very pristine stuff for the price you pay too. Soul Hackers was only $5 iirc, and I can't find a single scratch anywhere on the disk.

I'll be putting good use to my Breaker Pro disk with these. You guys should hop on Japanon's dick too if there's something you like.
>>
>>4127573
If you learned English then you can learn any other language, I think. Japanese has the luxury of being very straightforward and direct. There's not a million synonyms for a single word and particles are a godsend.

It's better to learn the spoken language first, because through context, tone, and affliction you have a much better general idea of what someone is trying to convey. As much as I like Edgar Rice Burrough's work, there's no way in hell someone like Tarzan could have taught himself to read and understand everything without more than just a fuckload of books.

I heard that particular Xanadu cover art is based on the OVA designs, and that that's the only version of the game with that art on the box.

What are some good retro stores in Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima and Tokio?

Mainly looking about second handed games like psx stuff and maybe some xbox or xbox 360 stuff
>>
>>4131307
OP here, I don't know about local chains in that area but typically secondhand chains like Hard Off, Comp Off and Second Street are where you will find the best deals. Selection varies wildly by store but places like that are where I find almost all of this stuff.

You're not going to find many deals in Akihabara or Den Den Town but if you don't care about price you can check there for specific things. Just be ready to pay scalper prices.

'sup OP, how're you holding up? Let me say that I think what you're doing here is great and that I have great respect for the effort you put into this.

Say, how much longer will you be doing this? I've thought about ordering some stuff, but I'll have to move in the foreseeable future, so I don't want to amass too much dead weight in the form of commodities before I do.

Also, what's the current projection for Japans economy? From what I've heard, it's been stagnant since the nineties. Will this change anytime soon? How do the common people feel about the situation?
>>
Man, I should have spent more times in Akihabara than Comiket last years. So many good stuffs I missed.
>>
>>4133603
I don't really have a timeline in mind but as long as I can keep finding people's requests I will continue to do this so I wouldn't worry about running out of time.

Regarding the economy, well I'm not really qualified to answer that but I can give you my impression at least.

Like most developed countries pretty much everyone wants to be overpaid to sit at a desk all day so skilled trades and agriculture experience a shortage of labor. Most people still have pretty good living conditions but a lot of the younger generation is disenchanted because they won't have jobs or lives as good as their parents/grandparents. The looming issue is the assumed labor shortage that will hit sometime in the next few decades as the population starts to decline. To remedy this the government has begun to allow more unskilled immigrants to come here on short term visas to do unskilled work with conditions and pay that would be illegal for Japanese citizens. People also don't want a massive influx of long term/permanent residents because foreigners are all criminals/terrorists/disrupting racial purity. Abe hopes to alleviate this problem by getting more women working and automating many jobs but hasn't had much success so far.

Sorry to make a short story long. I would say that most people I talk to are just concerned with their daily lives. They are aware of these looming issues but until a crisis actually hits it doesn't feel real.

>People also don't want a massive influx of long term/permanent residents because foreigners are all criminals/terrorists/disrupting racial purity.

This is a big problem in my country. About half (up to 70 percent) of our contry's prisons are filled up with criminals from Eastern Europe, and almost all crime are done by either immigrants or drug addicts.

Yeah what's up with the golden disk!?
>>
>>4134643
It's an exclusive golf course for the Famicom Disk System that wasn't available at retail.

Cool, thanks. I'll keep your email around and hit you up once I've moved and settled in. That will probably be 8 months to a year from now and I'd understand if you've moved on to other things by then, but I'll try my luck.

Thanks for the perspective on the economy. It's interesting that germany is currently facing similar problems, albeit the economy is still growing slowly. Demographic change is an issue, as is a lack of skilled workers in the trades while every idiot studies for a mostly useless degree™ because they (and their families) are ever haunted by the undying specter of social decline. Immigration offers both challenges and opportunities in this context while triggering xenophobic protest from the socially deprived (speaking of this, I suspect >>4134634 may be a fellow germ).

Not far off, I speak a little bit of German.

A Brit, then? I've heard them complain vocally on the interwebs especially about an influx of people from eastern europe. But surely the Brexit will fix EVERYTHING, right?

Let's stop here though and keep the discussion centered on /vr/ games and Japan. Even though I appreciate sober discussion about such matters, I don't want this nice thread to turn into a /pol/-shitfest as is inevitably the case when discussion on 4chan turns to politics. The containment-board exists for a reason.
>>
>>4129225
Did nips use big pc boxes longer than the west? I don't remember some of those games having big boxes at all.
>>
Isn't OP effectively just a reseller with a twist? I'm not complaining just noting he's allowed advertize this.
>>
>>4129183
Even in goo land the GBA mini is expansive.
>>
>>4136202

OP doesn't really charge money, 13 % commission cost is almost like doing this for free. He could've just gotten a job and made money to buy things for himself than do this for us. You couldn't have gotten any to do this prrofessionally for such a low rate.

Also the board is obviously interested in this, as the thread is fairly popular with 172 posters. I think popular opinion should count more than stern rules about advertizing.
>>
Got my acceptance promise from the university I want to attend in Japan.

Feels good.
>>
>>4136202
I'm >>4127578 and the games I bought would have done a lot more damage to my wallet if I trusted other resellers. They'll usually charge 35 - 50% commission to make a decent profit back. Hell, Azure Dreams was 500 yen but buying online from anyone else would have costed me $20.

OP is a pretty cool guy for only charging 13%. You're basically just paying what you normally would if you'd have walked in the store yourself and shipped it back to your house.
>>
>>4136202
I guess you could look at it this way but I saw it more as a service charge.

I post pictures here so people can request what they want since they can't fly over here and browse for themselves. Originally I only did 10% but I had to raise it to 13% because of Paypal's cut. Sometimes I send people things and only get about ¥30 in "profit" so it's not like I'm getting rich from this.
>>
Hello OP
i would like to ask you if its possible for you to make a doc of estimated prices of popular games
It would be nice to have such list, it would help people to have an idea of how much they would pay
>>
>>4137857
I'm not against that idea but honestly prices are all over the place even for stores in the same chain.

Do you have a list of popular games to get me started? I'm curious what other anons in Japan have seen as well.

Just go to Super Potato. They have every last everything when it comes to retro games.

Suprised the orange AGS-101 is so expensive over there. I got such a steal on mine
>>
>>4057089

How about biohazard guides?

How much they cost there?

I don't wanna buy you nothing, just pure curiosity
>>
>>4138237
Around 3000-4000 or more typically depending on color and condition.

>>4139349
The AGS-101 was never released in Japan

>>4139384
Never seen a Biohazard guide but most old guides I see get put into the 100 yen section.
>>
Any MVS carts there? How much do they go for?
>>
>>4140948
I haven't seen any so far. Usually the stores only carry things that were available commercially.
>>
>>4141461
Oh... any NEO GEO AES or CD controllers though?

>>
>>4142075
I can't remember off hand but they were around ¥2580 each I think.
>>
>>4142147
That sounds pretty reasonable, since they usually go for 50bux (about over 5000 yen)

I just bought Eternal Arcadia for the Dreamcast for $15, here in Tokyo. Love the retro game stores over here.

>>
>>4142026
How much does the AES go for?
>>
>>4145838
Ayy gow
>>
>>4146269
I haven't seen the AES in stock but the CD is usually around ¥14000 in the box. I wouldn't recommend that to anyone bough unless you're okay waiting a minute or more between rounds in fighting games while the game loads.
>>
>>4147047
You mean Neo Geo CD?
I dont like disc based consoles, have many dead bodies already
>>
Sorry to ask since I haven't finished crawling through all of your photos OP, but how much do Neo Geo Pocket Colours go for?
>>
>>4147505
>>4129185
There are some in this picture for ¥6980 and ¥7980 respectively but I've seen them slightly cheaper.
