Someone once told me that Pokemon in red/blue aren't as strong when evolved with rare candy as they would be if you evolved them by fighting.

I believed it was true for a long time, but methinks someone just really wanted me to waste my time.

you gan stat boosts by defeating gym leaders. but these can still be obtained with pokemon evolved with rare candy by using drugs and vitamins items

It's real, the stats gained by leveling via rare candies aren't the same as the ones gained by normal leveling up.
You can check it by yourself by creating a savestate just before a pokemon gains enough exp for leveling up. Make it eat a rare candy, save a pic of your new status and load your savestate, then go into a fight, level up, save a pic of your new stats and compare it with the previous one.

This, but you can regain the lost stat points just by fighting as usual. So leveling up with candy only helps.

The way to do it is to candy up to 100, solo the e4 20 times, then deposit/withdraw your pokemon from your pc. That last part recalculates evs and in rby, theres no limit by stat.

The thing I remember most about the Monster Brain was giving myself a Pokemon with 0 max HP that knew all the HMs to beat Silver without any battles. Just a bit of fun.

i know this actually works as intended but these kinds of really specific steps involved reminds me lots of goofy playground pokemon rumors back in the day

So you were there shortly after the first game came out. Cool.
>>
Cheaper alternative to Memory Brain if you just want to archive saves too.
