Give me a game as melancholic, emotional and gloomy as this.
chrono cross, suikoden 2 depending on which ending you get

There is this pc game hardly anyone over talks about called SILVER.
PC game that uses similar graphics: beautifully hand drawn backgrounds with 3D People/Monsters.
awesome stuff about silver:
>You swing your sword by moving the mouse while holding LMB
>good voice acting
>nice music
>great atmosphere
>ring menu
>spells, bows, special moves
>feeling over never knowing what will happen next
>>4047876
Nothing is exactly like FF7. Closest is FF6, which I'm sure you've already played.
If you don't mind very retro, Phantasy Star II is a very melancholy sci-fi RPG.
>>4047876
Soul Reaver.
>>4048062
Was a damn fun ride when I was a kid. Glass best girl.
>>4047876
>gloomy and melancholic
>that fucking character model
That pretty much takes any gloomy feeling right out of the game looking at that mess of a model
>>4047876
Secret of Evermore's soundtrack
>>4049742
fucking casuals. ever play alone in the dark? of course not. ff7 uses chibi sd models on the map like all previous ff games.
>>4049790
>ever play alone in the dark?
Yeah, it was barely functional shit.
>>4048062
Also had a Dreamcast port. Pretty quality game.

I still like how it made every damn polygon count.
>>4047876
This little gem is even more melancholic, emotional and gloomy. Which is already why 7 sucks so much. That and the crappy 3d graphics.
>>4049948
>"hurrga durrga you like popular game, and me think you pleeb"
Faggot.
>>4049948
Guitar Hero
>>4047876
Max Payne 1 and 2.
>>4049970
6 had shit sprite work. Stiff and barely representative of their art work.
6 and 7 are fine examples of games that utilize mood to sell their worlds effectively. Stop being a shitty fanboy trying to sell one over the other. It's not the year 2000 anymore, you're not 17 anymore, your youth is gone and death is coming for you. Chill the fuck out.
7 does not suck. Neither does 6. The fanboy wars are over. They're both enjoyable and perfectly adequate games.
>>4049970
That opinion is already normie-tier, true fans love 7 now, didn't you read the memo?
>>4050181
>6 had shit sprite work.
Odd opinion. What do you think of 4 and 5's sprites? Or CT's?
>>4051950
All SNES FFs have stiff, blocky sprites that range from somewhat passable for their art to not at all. CT's are at least emotive in more places than their face and representative of their art work.
Star Ocean, Tales of Phantasia, Seiken Densetsu 3 are RPGs with good sprite art on the SNES.
>>4051956
All right, that kind of opinion I can understand. I don't think you can honestly call 6's spritework "shit", though; it's simply an exaggeration. The reason the sprites in FF4-6 look stiff, I think, is that Square took the technical limitations of the NES (8x16 sprites) and made them their style.
>>4047876
Majora's Mask?
>>4047876
Honestly a lot of jrpgs of that era. More went for more serious stories often dealing with themes of morality, death, religion, and other more serious themes.
BoFIV is pretty depressing, there's some scenes that really got to me.
>>4047913
i really enjoy the short story this is based on
>>4052513
You should play this then, it is pretty faithful and well done. The writer was even involved with it and even voices AM.
>>4052517
i might give it a try but i get super impatient when playing old point and click games. i kinda enjoyed sanitarium, is this like that?
>>4052521
Sorry, while I am familiar with that game I have never played it myself so I can't say. Each of the character's stories can be played in any order. Voice acting is pretty good and the game feels very faithful, even if some elements seem to either have less emphasis or just be removed entirely. If you aren't used to older point and click games you might get stuck a bit. I know this isn't looked upon highly on /vr/ but honestly I say look up a guide if something really has you stuck.
Hope you enjoy. It is pretty well known but I don't think people appreciate how much effort really went into making it something accurate and high quality, it's a great game and if you're a fan of the short story you'll enjoy it. Hope this helps.
>>4047876
the previous final fantays
>>4048062
im just going to interject here to say silver is fucking sick and just about everyone who ever likes it has good taste
game was hugely, hugely underadvertised, undersold, and underestimated. probably one of the best games i've ever played that didn't become popular. I do think it was more popular in eastern europe.
>>4047913
This game is too over-the-top to be anything near-depressing unless you include melodrama.
>>4052530
>t. only played 5 and 6
>>4052530
ff7's soundtrack alone is more moving then all the previous games
>>4047876
>washed out loser joins terrorists and kills a lot of people

>>4052736
>strong independent womyn who needs no man
This description matches neither Tifa nor Aeris, so I'm not sure who you are talking aboot.
I must say that to me FFVII always felt kinda weird.
Maybe it's the look of the models, the more creepy parts about it, anything with sephiroth. Some of the music. There's this feeling in a few parts of the game that there's something quite off. No other FF game managed that and I don't recall other RPGs doing it either. It's like the lego graphics and the music helps a lot with this. That said it's not my favorite FF.

>If you don't mind very retro, Phantasy Star II is a very melancholy sci-fi RPG.
>>4049325
Thirding this. PSII is probably one of the darkest games I've played, after you get through the superficially saccharine atmosphere.
>>4053150
Oh. Well, yeah. That goes without saying.
>>4047876
Tremendous things about FFVII
1. It's extremely open.
2. You can do anything you want.
3. It's non-linear.
4. It always surprises you.
5. You discover something new every time you play it.
6. It's intelligent.
7. It's deep and has multiple themes.
8. It pushes the boundaries.
9. It makes you think.
10. It allows ingenuity; there are no prescribed methods.
>>4049971
Fucking this. I get tired of reading thread after thread of people who dislike this game because they think they're being "edgy" or "cool".
>>4052736
