Which system had the better games?
>>
teh 32-bit
>>
3DO actually had a bunch of good games, Jaguar had Rayman, Alien vs Predator and that one Doom port.
>>
But 3DO was great. Why do all you underage AVGN fans hate it? Jaguar I can understand, but 3DO was excellent.
>>
>>4047136
>Expensive
>Short lifespan
>Most exclusives got ported to Saturn or PSX
It was like some weird proto Dreamcast, came out early and had a decent start then went to shit.
>>
>>4047142
>>Expensive
So what? You judge on quality, not price.
>>Short lifespan
Brightest flames burn quickest.
>>Most exclusives got ported to Saturn or PSX
I don't see Gex on Saturn or Playstation X...
>>
>>4047136
3DO was over $700 DollaryDoos when it came out. It also had some of the worst "games" ever made which brought back memories of the 80's gaming crash due to the multitude of shit games.

3DO did have some really good ports of Samurai Shodown (which was the only uncensored port with proper scaling) and SF2 Turbo, but other ports were usually choppy (Primal Rage) and it also had the worst version of Doom.

As a whole, games had frame-rate issues and it was just a mess.
>>
>>4047118
i bought a cheapo 3do online got the best version of street fighter 2, do not regret that at all
>>
>>4047148
>3DO was over $700 DollaryDoos when it came out.
So what?
>It also had some of the worst "games" ever made which brought back memories of the 80's gaming crash due to the multitude of shit games.
There was no gaming crash in the 80s, you fucking retard. The American home console market fell over, they didn't come near encompassing gaming, it was a local market with no international reach.
>it also had the worst version of Doom.
No, that would be the SNES version. At least you can see in the 3DO version.
>As a whole, games had frame-rate issues and it was just a mess.
That's a vague statement that could easily apply to other consoles like the SNES and N64.
>>
>>4047142
Make that $700 GBA and you're onto something. Even as a 2d console, it wasn't very good. Sure it had a few games worth playing, but there were many SegaCD FMV tier stinkers that were just horrible.
>>
>>4047157
People really overstate the number of FMV games on early CD based consoles like the 3DO and Mega CD.
>>
>>4047147

My point was still correct, kiddo, learn to read.
>>
>>4047158
They really don't. To be fair though, PC CD-ROM games were also being used as a dumping ground for B actors and low quality Cinepak multimedia. They had the space, but they didn't know what to do with it.
>>
>>4047164
you said that gex didn't get ported to Saturn but it did the video confirms it
>>
>>4047174
>gex didn't get ported to Saturn
Quote where I said that, kid.
>>4047169
They really do. You've probably never owned a Mega CD and just watched Mike Matei's video on it.
>>

I don't see Gex on Saturn or Playstation X...
and here is the ps1 port

Is different from

But, hey, comprehension is not your strong suit, clearly. Once you get to the fifth grade they'll help you out... I hope.
>>

so what your saying is that you physical didn't see gex get ported to Saturn and PlayStation
are you a blind old man?
>>
>>4047190
>so what your saying is that you physical didn't see gex get ported to Saturn and PlayStation
Pardon? Are you trying to ask if the reason I'm saying that Gex didn't get ported to Saturn or Playstation X is that I didn't physically see a release of it? If so, then no. That's not what I'm saying. Go back and read my first post, sweetie, it will do you a world of good.

When did I deny that? Gex wasn't ported to the Mega CD, Mega Drive, or N64.
>>
>>4047175
>You've probably never owned a Mega CD
Yeah unfortunately I did. I've seen the good, the bad, and the ugly on my friends 3D0.

Hardly unfortunate.

and why would they port them to dead hardware?

This. It's about time amerifags realize that events in their country are local only, they don't represent what's happening in the rest of the world.

3D0 due to marginally better game selection... but any way you look at it, you're still comparing a D+ grade system to a D grade system. It's "degrading"
>>
>>4047118
3DO.
The Jag had fuck-all.

>>4047158
the Sega CD's big issue is that apart from a tiny handful of scaling games with awful framerates and then the highly publicized and marketed (and generally awful) FMV games, you basically just ended up with ordinary Genesis games with nicer music and with load times
no bigger/more stages, no better graphics usually (apart from usage of scaling/rotation trickery, which could be pretty neat and the bottleneck was just getting it on screen rather than actually scaling them in memory), no extra colors (because everything goes through the Genesis VDP, the Sega CD can't draw directly to the screen, which was a fucking mistake of the highest level)

like, Silpheed uses the Sega CD really well, with real-time 60fps polygon graphics laid over FMV backgrounds
Soul Star looks gorgeous too, but I remember it being boring as hell last time I tried it.

>>4047193
Did... did you have a stroke anon? Are you okay?
Do you have some kind of reading disability?
yeah, yeah, replying to bait, there's no actual reason to defend the 3DO -- could have actually had a chance if not for the awful, completely noncompetitive licensing model that locked them out of the market since manufacturers couldn't sell machines at a loss to compete with the cheaper, more powerful PS1 and Saturn (I don't care what fucko what-his-face said before the two launched, even the Saturn does like twice the polygon output at a given framerate if we're comparing released games) since they didn't make money on games
>>
>>4047118
Depends if you prefer Wolfenstein 3D or Doom. Jaguar had the better Doom, 3DO had the better Wolfenstein
>>
>>4050935
Jag Wolfenstein is very good as well though.
>>
>>4047147
>So what? You judge on quality, not price.
Cheaper game consoles have more potential for better video games simply because there is the market for them. What incentive does a developer have putting hundreds if not thousands of hours into a game if the game will likely not sell because the system it is on? if you were a developer back in 93 and you had a choice between Nintendo (who had 8 years experience in the market) Sega (who has decades of history in the arcades and made a console that got popular on a international basis) or 3DO which would you pick?

Not only that but average Joe could afford it and little Jimmy could afford to get his parents to buy him a Super Nintendo or a Genesis if not already having one unlike a 800 dollar console.
>Brightest flames burn quickest.
The weakest flames burn quickest the strongest flames last even then the greatest consoles of the time were supported for years to come (NES lasted till 94, SNES lasted till 99, Genesis lasted till 99, PS1 lasted till 06 etc).
>I don't see Gex on Saturn or Playstation X...
Gex made it out on the N64 along with a shit ton of other games by 3D0.
>>
>>4047156
>So what?
It means the average gamer could not afford to buy it and even if they could they would not waste their money on it. It even happened in the evil modern generation with the PS3 when people refused to buy it till they cut the price to 299 as not many people wanted to buy 500 dollars for the base and 600 dollars for the complete version of the console.
>The American home console market fell over, they didn't come near encompassing gaming, it was a local market with no international reach.
The crash solely refers to the US market dumbass. Sure it did not affect Europe but America is one of the biggest demographics gaming wise that is why it is refered to a crash (America is under the sole banner of English and Spanish language wise, Europe has dozens of languages throughout it and not only that import costs.
>No, that would be the SNES version. At least you can see in the 3DO version.
Doom on the SNES is not running on top of the line 700 dollar hardware it is running on a 16 bit system released in 1990.
>That's a vague statement that could easily apply to other consoles like the SNES and N64.
3DO got framerate issues whenever it actually tried something while the SNES required special chips and the N64 had fog.

I would vote for the 3DO since it had some nice Japanese games and support. I'd imagine I would like games such as: Suichie-Pai 2, Star Control 2, a port of Super street Fighter 2 Turbo with its own unique soundtrack, Super Real Mahjong P4, Road Rash, Theme Park, Policenauts, Syndicate, Samurai Shodown, Alone in the Dark 1&2, and Dragon's Lair based upon ports I played on PC, Saturn, and Playstation.

However, that does not say I didn't have a good experience trying out the Jaguar. I did like Tempest 2000 as it was impressive to me at the time. Alien vs. Predator, Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, Rayman, Raiden, and NBA Jam: Tournament Edition tempts me to get the system too.

Sadly, both were too expensive for my family and I at the time, therefore I had to stick with Super Nintendo and my cousins' Genesis.

yes, I do like the strip mahjong games on 3D0
