Oh how I wish there was a level editor for these games or something.
People are asking for new games in the series NOW but I remember Metal Slug 4,5,6,7 doing TERRIBLY in reviews back in the day.
>>4044631
That's because none of them were any good, period. 6 showed most potential but completely shat the bed with its final mission.
>>4044640
I agree, 6 is definitely the best game after the original trilogy but really the only part of the final mission that blew balls was the slow as molasses digging section. Everything else is pretty solid for the most part, yeah pretty solid. The final boss is REALLY easy too, like, compared to 2's and 3's anyway.
>>4044648
6 also had long ass unskippable cutscenes.
>>4044665
Actually you can skip them. You press start or something.
>>4044624
Have you played Demon Front and Dolphin Blue?
>>4044673
No but I know about them. Never felt like playing them since they always seemed like blatant copies but Dolphin Blue actually had some of the Metal slug devs work on it so there's a reason it turned out so similar.
>>4044686
Demon Front uses mostly new assets and runs at 60fps, that surpasses Metal Slug right there.
>>4044698
Yeah. Metal Slug with 60 FPS and no-lag would be pretty cool. I guess I'll try 'em out.
It's a really good feeling, getting good at a game and seeing stuff you would have never seen otherwise.
RAWKIT LAWNCHAIR
>>4044624
It would be fairly simple to replicate. The hardest part is lack of source code and ripping the sprites and tilesets and rearranging them in a actually good looking manner for level editing.
>>4046756
Interesting...
>>4044624
Level editor? If you want to play remixes over recycled ideas and assets you can play Metal Slug 4.
What makes the progression from 1 to 2/X to 3 so great is how varied and exciting each level feels.
>>4047709
Well it'd be cool too if you could make your own enemies or something.
Play in the hunt, it's basically if metal slug had a submarine level but that was the whole game.
>>4048154
You're saying that about official artwork.
You should probably stop using that word.
>>4044624
I don't know why I drew this but here
>>4048301
Kawaii.
>>4048349
I did it a little better
>>4044631
Reviewers also rate cinematic experience "games" highly.
I don't give a fuck about reviews.
>>4048420
>>4044631
>In his review of the game for the Xbox, IGN's Hilary Goldstein scored it 6.8 out of 10, feeling that as an arcade shooter, the game stood up well, but as an Xbox title, it was weak when compared to other games on the system; "If this game were $20 or even $30 it would merit a better score and better recommendation. This is not a $40 value unless you absolutely must have this game on your Xbox. When this game drops in price (and it will), that's when you'll want to snatch it up for sure."[23] He scored the Xbox 360 version 7.4 out of 10, again feeling that the game was good for what it was, but somewhat dated when compared to other titles; "Before you purchase Metal Slug 3, you need to ask yourself how much you value ten dollars. This is a short experience that, even with a few playthroughs, won't last you long. Metal Slug 3 is a lot of fun, but this should be a $5 download. Especially when original, awesome-looking shooters such as Omega Five are storming Xbox Marketplace."
>>4048435
jesus mother fucking christ can we stop talking about this forever and just talk about the game
>>4048486
Sure.
>>4048489
awesome
>>4048420
Like it or not they influce sales though. The media DESTROYED Metal Slug 7 on its release.
>>4048501
Well it is the worst metal slug.
>>4048504
Worse than 4? Worse than unfinished 5?
>>4048501
>influence
Fixed.
>>4048509
... Have you not played it? I really do mean it's the worst.
>>4048517
I played the PSP release with improved resolution and framerate. Felt like a continuation of the ideas in MS6. Combat School mode was VERY fun.
>>4048523
The PSP release is BETTER but garbage island is just not a very exciting location.
>>4048525
Only part I recall hating was the big motion tweened robot face off and the platforming in the last boss.
>>4048525
Only thing I totally disliked about 6 and 7 is that the environments aren't destructible anymore. In the Hunt and Geo Storm are older games and pretty much the entire scenery can be shot down.
>>4048527
The robot show-down was one of the few HIGHLIGHTS of that game.
It's just not very memorable whereas every other entry at least tries to be creative.
>>4048532
That's the thing, if they made a Metal Slug 8 it would only reuse even more assets from the past games and would get bashed by reviewers again. I DON'T want another one.
>>4048538
rrrrggghhhhhh not if someone competent's in charge.
>>4048541
Or maybe they could continue milking the series with infinite Tower Defense games on cellphones and tell the "hardcore" fans to fuck right off.
>>4048541
>>4048543
Also Pachinko.
>>4048545
They've already confirmed they're not doing anymore pachinkos.
>>4048548
Good, maybe let the series RIP in piece for good.
>>4048554
I believe in Metal Slug. It will return better than ever one day. Some day.
>>4048548
http://dreamcancel.com/2015/11/02/snk-playmore-officially-withdraws-from-pachislot-business/
>SNK Playmore has announced that it has stopped making pachinko slot machines and will be re-focusing its efforts on making console and smartphone games.
>The Japanese company started making pachinko machines back in 2004 but due to a dwindling demand for them and regulatory changes causing uncertainties in the pachinko business, the effort has now been dropped entirely.
>For now, it’s full-steam ahead on projects such as The King of Fighters XIV and leveraging other popular IPs including Metal Slug and Samurai Spirits. The recent partnership with Chinese company Ledo Millennium will be used to create synergy in the mobile games sector.
>Staff that were previously geared towards working on pachinko machines will be assigned to the games division.
>>4048560
Only to reuse 90% edited art assets from previous games and be destroyed by reviewers again.
>>4048563
That's not what I mean by "better than ever" you jerk.
Metal Slug isn't technically dead, but I sure as fuck wish it had died years ago.
This was a thing.

I wish they would've continue with a pure military theme, like in Metal Slug 1, but sadly, they ran out of ideas on MS3, almost every level in it was an homage or a straight up copy from their previous games, GunForce and In The Hunt.
>>4048563
Hey, new King of Fighters was good, maybe we're experiencing a revival of SNK right NOW.
>>4048629
>Hey, new King of Fighters was good, maybe we're experiencing a revival of SNK right NOW.
You say that every year.
>>4048629
>I wish they would've continue with a pure military theme, like in Metal Slug 1
They kinda did that with 4, shame about the reused assets.
>>4048629
I really adore what they did to the series with Metal Slug 2 but I can see how Metal Slug 1's aesthetics are to be treasured.
>>4048567
these are goddamn awesome!!!!
Which Metal Slug is the easiest? I want to buckle down and work on getting a 1cc, so which game would be the best to attempt first?
>>4048649
The first, by far.
>>4048649
You can "cheese" Metal Slug 6 a lot by playing on beginner mode as Eri and forfeiting the final mission. But you'll not technically beat it.
>>4048654
>>4048567
I really need to make more webms of this. Fuck it, I'll do it now.
