i was just thinking about delving into this series. is it worth trudging through a bunch of megamu tensei games or should i stick with the persona series?

depends on what you're looking for. Persona is half school life simulator while smt is mostly a straight rpg. mostly I've seen persona fans put off by the main series so there's that to consider

I've been playing this too.
Just got the items needed to challenge Hecate.

For the most part, my battle strategy is just to auto-attack. Magic seems mostly useless in this game. Even tarukaja and other buffs are really shitty compared to later games.

Attack and heal seems to be as complex as it gets.

Really looking forward to MT2 as well. MT1 is kind of a chore.

no don't do this unless you're grinding. offensive magic is great when you figure out their weaknesses, experiment with fusing until you get a good demon or two

I could but lucifer hits hard and I focused on just keeping nakajima and yumiko alive since at that point I was pretty sure (or hoping) he didn't have much health left

most late-game demons are immune to almost everything, some are weak to hanmahan

I found it easier to keep Yumiko alive by having demons capable of reviving her.
It also refreshes her MP.

are you playing the fc version? there were hardly any demons I fought that nulled my spells
