What is the ps1 equivalent to Zelda?
in terms of legacy and how popular it was at the time? FF7. in terms of gameplay? nothing. Alundra is a zelda clone but is more like the 2D ones. no ps1 games did 3D the way mario/zelda did really.
I do prefer the psx library now but n64 was great too
Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain
That depends on what you mean by "equivalent."

Gran Turismo 2.
alundra or pic related?

Metal Gear Solid

In terms of gameplay
I believe Ape Escape is the most advanced 3D action game on the PS1, using the double analogs and assigning items to different face buttons like OOT did with c-buttons.

The Megaman Legends games. The 1st came out before Ocarina, the 2nd after. They both capture the same sort of spirit Ocarina had, providing a charming 3D setting that the player could want to live in, with an engrossing story, colorful characters, and plenty of dungeons.
soul reaver, or maybe granstream saga

Pretty much this

Smells like easy bait for accusing a brand of copying gameplay
Don't mind me. Just passing through.

There is no equivalent to a Miyamoto masterpiece, you philistine.
The PC equivalent of the time was Ultima IX.
Definitely Alundra.

I knew someone was going to say this. Don't know why or how.
On a real note though .... The equivalent of LOZOOT does not exist on the PS1. I'm sorry
Tomb Raider series

Ocarina of time is just okay.
It's been surpassed by other Zeldas both after, and before.

If you want gameplay, maybe Megaman Legends truly is the best option. In fact, you will see some kind of influence that Megaman Legends series had in later Zelda games.
>In a world covered by endless water...
>pigs are forced to be abused
>and the Tower of Gods oddly reminds to Legends ancient structure.
Well thats other talk.
But, I you want the game of revelation on the plattform, go to this >>4023554

While thats true, its also just a glorified lighthouse.
metal gear solid is the only choice. both had a serious tone, both had graphics and gameplay as the selling point. both were exclusives. both were one of the biggest hits for they system. crash and arguably spyro were playstations mario. mgs is zelda. tekken series were smash. there's no n64 equivelant to the ps1's jrpg games so those are all false comparisons.

Soul Reaver.
>>4023805
this guy might be right
There's Grandstream saga too, and Soul Reaver. The thing is, there is nothing on the ps1 that replicates a similar experience to Ocarina that does it well. There are great games that approach adventure differently from Ocarina, but the ones that mimic it just suck.
Look at Monkey Hero as an example. Close as shit to Ocarina of Time. Terrible freaking game.

in terms of popularity, sure. but FFVII has nothing in common with Ocarina of time in terms of gameplay, story, or visual design.

Back in the day i didn't own a N64, to me, Alundra 2 was my Zelda, i really love that game.
Granstream Saga seems like the closest thing off the top of my head.
