Let's have a retro ads/flyers thread!
>>4022572
I remember this from a booklet that was given for free to people who went to see The Wizard in theaters in 1989 or 1990. It was called Nintendo Pocket Power. I have yet to find any full scans of it and the ones on ebay still go for over $50.

I would imagine it's hard to find because a lot of people probably threw it out after a few years.

Street Fighter III had a perfect "street" aesthetic.
>>4022656
Looks like natalie portman...
>>4022694
Trivia: This is Mont St Michel, a small town off the coast of Normandy (France).
Anyone has any ad for MNsG?

Not retro
>>4022634
>That Poorly drawn arm edit over neat japanese artwork
>>4023252
Ads that do weird stuff with original art are great.
>It's a "SEGA makes an edgy sex joke" ad
>>4022674
Was this supposed to be an april fools joke or just a random idea for an ad?
>It's ok when Nintendo does it
>>4023189
YOU WANT WILD? WE'LL SHOW YOU A DONKEY KONG YOU'VE NEVER FACED BEFORE BECAUSE YOU'VE NEVER SEEN GRAPHICS LIKE THIS, NEVER COME UP AGAINST BOSSES LIKE THIS, NEVER PLAYED ON LEVELS LIKE THIS, AND NEVER SEEN A CHARACTER AS WILD AS KIDDY KONG. THIS IS A WHOLE NEW ADVENTURE. DONKEY KONG COUNTRY 3 FEATURING KIDDY KONG AND DIXIE KONG. NOW THAT'S WILD.
All of this for a game about a cartoon baby monkey? Jesus, I hate American advertising.
>>4023008
Oh lay an egg
>>4023506
The forced edginess is super dumb but I must admit, I do love edgy Kirby.
>>4023304
more like when ascii does it
Move over kiddos, the only game that matters is finally here.
>>4023506
I'll be damned if it didn't work though. Well, on me at least. As a kid I fucking loved that Play It Loud era of Nintendo advertisement. Hell, people love to make fun of the "this game stinks" Earthbound ad campaign, but I was into that gross-out Nickelodeon style humor, so that actually sold me on the game and made me beg for it for Christmas (which was a tough sell because it was a $90 game). Sure you can look back and think they're stupid, but there's a charm there that was pretty much completely lost by the time the Wii era hit and the marketing became bland and family friendly.
>>4023264
>>4023274
For a second I thought that lady in the upper left was Ashi from Samurai Jack. But she's not really a killer of time so much as someone who gets killed by time. Paradoxes that is.
>>4022687
>what's happening?
>ABSOLUTE MADMAN
>>4022590
shiiiit. that might be one of worst old game ads i've ever seen.
>Donkey Kong plz lose weight
>no
>African tribesman like to play game about a gorilla
There's a racist joke in there somewhere.

I thought Mario was a plumber
>>4022687
>>4024189
He was a carpenter in Donkey Kong, then became a plumber in Mario Bros.

Reminds me of Roger Dean's artwork.

>>4022662
holy shit could you imagine if they ran an ad like that now?

Google says that it was a prototype that Nintendo was trying out as an attempt to market game systems to girls that didn't go over so well with retailers.
Cynicism and gratuitous claims of sexism aside, how cool would it be to design a sweater and just "print" it out. I wonder how shitty they'd look though.
>>4023304
>Worst button layout.
What were they thinking.
>>4022662
Srsly?
>>4023759
This is good to see, Nintendo barely ever hit back at Sega.

>>4023427
this is a cool ad, i miss the days of truly different gaming platforms.

>>4023304
That is not a product made by Nintendo...
>>4022602
Am I wrong or was there a lot of hotdog-centric ads in the 90s for products that had nothing to do with hotdogs or food?
>>4025587
>>4023707
>and he's about to find out that being a video protagonist is harder than it looks!

>reddit spacing
Get out.
>>4025846
But that's not even "reddit spacing", which itself is a retarded meme to begin with.
>>4025847
Quoting multiple posts is a very reddit thing. We must keep our board pure.
>>4023008
you might be right, but that doesn't mean you aren't also a pedant babbyman who should be laughed at. Ha! Ha!
>>4025848
>Quoting multiple posts is a very reddit thing.
How new are you to 4chan?
>>4025851
Apparently you're the newfag here.

I imagined Squall driving a cute little Toyota Echo and laughed.

would you prefer he makes 5 different posts in a row? everyone quotes multiple posts, you're not fooling anyone. that's not even fucking reddit spacing, quoting multiple posts in a single line would make no sense.

>>4022602
The 90s were for Ads what the 80s were for music.
>>4027692
Have a full set
>>4025854
>would you prefer he makes 5 different posts in a row?
That's generally superior and easier to respond to, yes.
Multi-quoting establishes that all the comments came from the same person, which is only useful in certain circumstances. (e.g. you posted a photo of your flower arrangement and multiple people are asking about how you made it)
>>4027796
This, it's literal reddit behavior.

>>4028224
Ironic coming from the RPG genre that literally plays itself
It was a different time.
>>4028226
I mean not really. What even is your angle with that comment? If anything JRPGs require too much from the player and have long arduous grinds, especially older retro ones.
>>4028237
Not final Fantasy 6, though, that game is mash A to win
Yeah. A different horrible time.
>>4028240
Glad you changed your point from "the entire genre" to "final fantasy 6"
very easy mistake
>>4024189
I thought plumbers don't wear neckties.
>>4028246
Ok to be fair Final Fantasy 1 is a grindfest. You have to mash AAAAAAAAAA and spam potions, such a challenge
>>4022674
I actually kind of want this.
>>4028031
Considering the Virus prototypes of Dr. Mario that made it into a few Playchoice 10 machines, I wonder if they ever actually programmed any ROMs with the Mario's Adventure titlescreen.
>>4027734

Wasn't that because they bundled it with the strategy guide?
>>4025561
Pretty sure the over-saturation of the market was a big contributor to the video game crash

>>4024863
oh my god the action on that for platformers was total garbage.
at least the nes max was good for hockey games.
>>4027708
I used to use game genie to remove continues and lives and speed up enemies in games without a hard mode. Not all of us used cart addons to scrub out.
>>4035909
>to remove continues and lives
Just reset if you die, you don't need a Game Genie for that.
>>4032820
But SimCity alone would give you more quality playtime than half of the Genesis stack combined.

I remember a guy that used to run a retro game store in my town tell me some old lady came up to him when he was working at Funcoland simply ask him that she "wanted Ballz". Good stuff.
>>4032905
I find it funny the guy who "composed" this was really taking the credit for someone else's work.
Taking credit. For this.
>>4036982
If I understood this right that was one of the few tracks he composed himself without plagiarizing

>>4035819
Nintendo should take some fucking notes and stop their current family friendly advertisement bullshit.as well as other companies in general
>>4025482
I can only imagine the shock when you bought this game based on the cover art, and got stupid text adventure. I would sue this company for false advertising.

>>4039447
If text adventures are your thing then they're great. But you can basically get the same experience by buying one of those "choose your own adventure" books
>>4023273
Nope. It was never released, but there was a knitting machine planned for NES. The 80s were that coked up someone actually thought it would be a good idea.
