What's the most replayable PS1 RPG, Anon?
>>
Mario is a replayable game. It takes about 40 minutes to an hour to beat casually. An RPG that takes 50+ hours to beat is not replayable. The genre does not lend itself to it. Unless you like the game, they're not replayable.
>>
>>4021743
Your mom is not replayable.
>>
Vagrant Story
Diablo
Chlorine Cross
>>
>>4021743
This, only a full autist weeb loser would replay an JRPG
>>
>>4021743
I agree with this, which is why the defining factors of a "replayable" JRPG are often

>Short
>New Game+ Options OR significant character customization

That leaves my vote for Parasite Eve.

It's about 8 hours if you pay attention to gun upgrades and don't have to grind in the museum. Then you can continue to play a second time, and play through the chrysler building doing more in depth mechanics with the guns, and climbing the pseudo-random 100 floors.
>>
>>4021787
Alright then, glad we stated that JRPGs ARE NOT RPGs.
>>
>>4021787
>not talking about JRPGs
>OP has a picture of JRPG character
>>
>RPG
>replayable

That doesn't even make sense.

Replayability isn't generally the goal of RPGs with the exception of Chrono Trigger and RPGs with significant moral flexibility which is slmost completely a modern concept. What you want out of your retro RPGs is vast scale that you can lose yourself in with 100% feeling like a life goal.
>>
>>4021661
Tales of Phantasia.
>>
Ya'll don't know any JRPGs that are fun enough to replay? Don't tell me you only play them for the story.
>>
>>4021848
>DQVII
>Replayable

Between the two hour-long intro that makes people want to kill themselves, searching for fragments, and 250+ hours of mandatory gameplay, I can say without a doubt that DQVII is the least replayable game in the franchise.
>>
>>4021743
agreed. never played a jrpg where you cant experience pretty much the entire game in a single playthrough
>>
>>4022332
>JRPG
>Forgets the entire point of the role playing part in JRPG
>>
Star Ocean 2 is a good one in my opinion.

>Two playable main characters
>Many sets of mutually-exclusive optional characters
>Optional cutscenes involving said characters
>Different minor endings for different friendship/romantic pairings, or solo-character endings

There are probably better replayable RPGs, but SO2 isn't a one-and-done kind of game unless you didn't even like the first playthrough.

Can you even read? He said that the goal of RPGs isn't generally being replayable, but having a "vast scale" that you can lose yourself into, DQVII was used as example.
I bet you only looked at the pic and started typing.

I completely understand what OP was getting at. I imagine anyone who wasnt around when PS1 was actually releasing new titles wouldnt understand.

He was asking for games that were awesome enough that you go back to replay years later.

For me, it would be FFVIII.
>>
>>4022582
He should have asked for that then instead of saying MOST REPLAYABLE

I've played through Mega Man X7 about 8 times.

I don't know why.
>>
>>4022338
I played through DQ7 three times and enjoyed it each time. The third time was the remake though, which is definitely more fast paced since grinding is cut down a lot, mainly the job class grinding.

The only ps1 jrpgs I have played more then once are Breath of Fire III, Breath of Fire IV, and Dragon Quest VII. However those are all some of my favorite games so you might not feel the same. Breath of Fire III is a bit slow and over the years I've grown to not like it as much as I once did but its still a great game. Breath of Fire IV has, to me, maybe the best combat system I have seen in a turn based jrpg. And for Dragon Quest VII I really love the class system, though it is my favorite Dragon Quest game in general. I have never played it but the game Saga Frontier has the player able to choose from different scenarios in no order, maybe try that.

Suikoden. I finished the first two getting all characters many times.

FF tactics gets lots of praise

I've probably replayed FF7 more than any other RPG but I acknowledge it's largely on account of nostalgia.
>>

I've only played X7 once, but it did have a kind of "so bad it's good" quality to it. I could see myself playing it again.

What would possess you to even?

I gave up after like 4 mavericks. It was terrible.
>>
>>4024080
Definitely. In fact you only really get half a game if you only play it once. The plot diverges completely down one path or the other in the first few minutes.

Plus, It's a just a really fun game.
>>
>>4023775
I can always pick that game back up and start over again. I can do the same with FFIV, as well.
>>
>>4021785
Parasite Eve, Star Ocean 2, and Legend of Mana got a lot of replay time out of me.
>>
>>4024080
Seconding this. The combat is fun if you play around with it and use different skills aside from rofup1 and eject punch. Plus the internet portion is fun to mess with. I always replay it once a year just for the nostalgia and comfy feel.
>>
>>4023551
Hopefully a copy of Diablo for Windows....
>>
>>4021661
Saga Frontier
Final Fantasy Tactics
Vagrant Story
Parasite Eve
Diablo
King's Field (I-III) and Shadow Tower.
An honorable mention to BoF III and IV for being comfy games though
>>

>Mario is a replayable game. It takes about 40 minutes to an hour to beat casually.
...if you intend to take warp zones throughout your run I guess, otherwise the average Mario game takes almost about as long to beat as any JRPG, especially later ones.

>>

SaGa Frontier probably since you can beat a scenario in like 4 hours if you're good or 40 hours if you felt like it.
>>
>>4023364
I actually got perfect ranks in all the missions with all the characters in MMX7

it's not a good game I don't know why I did it

it's like a really good kusoge

Ignore the PS2 games. I just got this lot for $30 over at a garage sale.

Which should I start on, and why is Vanguard Bandits $45 online?

DQVIII is a great start to the series if you have never played a DQ game, though as a veteran I found it a bit lacking, stiil a good game. Vanguard bandits is moderately rare, also a lot of ps1 jrpgs go for high prices.

I'm not going to lie, while you got a good deal many of these are pretty unknown games, and probably for good reason. Of these really only DQVIII, Wild Arms, and Saga Frontier are even discussed. Evergrace is discussed but not really fondly. It's a pretty bizarre game, has somewhat regarded as a cult classic by those that like it. Has a pretty "distinct" soundtrack, it really should be listened to just for how bizarre it is.

I've actually played every other Dragon Quest game and spin-off besides 8, oddly enough. I'll probably start on that and play SaGa Frontier next.

Thanks m8
>>
>>4032126
No problem. For me personally I found it a little simplified compared to previous entries. You only have four party members with very obvious roles in battle with little ability to customize them. Still though DQ is DQ and it's always pretty good.
>>
Seiken Densestsu/Secret of Mana 3

You can experience the main plot from a bunch of different points of view and each characters side stuff is different.
>>
>>4032104
>Unlimited Saga
You like to live life on the edge.

Darkstone is okay, it is an action RPG and has a little bit of a Diablo hack n' slash feel to combat. I never got far in it because it was at my cousins place.
>>
>>4032135
PS1, not Super Famicom.
>>
>>4032240
>You like to live life on the edge
I'd love to get the PS2 version of Romancing SaGa if SaGa Frontier and Frontier 2 are good.

I've only ever played Legend of Legacy, which I was told is just like all the SaGa ganes before Unlimited.
>>
>>4023551

I've played your pic related twice, but usually I'm one and done with jrpgs

Still grinding out cannon exp to S rank on all units in the Fukushima simulator, could honestly do it forever
>>
>>4021661
Any of the SNES ports that made it to the PSx

Legend of the Dragoon is pretty rad though if you want something more wooshy wooshy 3D instead of golden era RPGs
