The shmup levels are bland shit. The dungeon parts are decent, but nothing special. I give it a 5/10.

It was my favorite game for a while. I was pretty young though.

I never finished it until recently, even though it's not extremely hard or anything. It felt weaker to me as an adult. It's pretty unpolished in some ways. It reminds me of TMNT or something--it's kind of clumsy and sloppy, but it still charms me a lot in the end, and I basically quite like it. I especially like playing with the special weapons.

In that regard I guess it's more like ActRaiser. It's sort of a watered-down this plus a watered-down that, plus really good music and an intriguing setting, producing a sum that ends up being much better than it should be, albeit still arguably not very good. I personally wouldn't make that argument because I like the game too much.
