Those are literal bikinis, not even attempting to be armors. IDK why the fanartist removed the Golden Axe dude's speedo, the fanservice was better balanced originally.
The remake is closer to a bikini but the original still had a lot of exposure.

>Bikini Armor is important.
Indeed it is!
But what is it about Bikini Armor that charms us so? It’s something more than simple exposed skin.
I think when you see Bikini Armor, it tells you something of the story you're about to see, and of the character. The bikini-armor wearing heroine is no demure waif, but usually a strong willed and youthful girl who has risen to her destiny! You know what you are about to see will have action, but it can't be taking itself too seriously.
It sets the tone for a work in a clear way.
Also, all that exposed skin.
>>4015817
For me it's combination of sheen, shoulderpads, and light-weightedness. It looks like they're rather fast and cool.
>>4015819
>>4015817
This style looks bad ass and sexy without being too slutty. I also miss the poofy hair and colorful clothing of the 80s.I really miss the sense of optimism the most.
>>4015967
So, while the thread topic is "bikini armor," as we can see there are many images in this thread that aren't bikini, rather more a general sexy warrior thread.
I'd like to talk about this one, Wing of Madoola, in particular, because the topic of the character's armor not being a bikini is one that the character designer commented on.
Game Catalog Wiki lists as one of the game's positive points the appeal of the player-character, Lucia, saying, "The game incorporated the trend of female warriors in revealing outfits that had started to become popular at the time, but what she wears is not actually a bikini, and by being more than just exposing as much skin as possible, it gave the character a unique air of virtue which earned her many fans."
In a magazine interview, character designer Moriken said, "Bikini-type outfits are embarassing so I covered her abdomen with armor as well." But then added that later, after seeing the design of the protagonist in Valis, he thought to himself, "Damn! I messed up!"
>>4016464
hmm very interesting. Her sprite in game looks like shes wearing plate armor. However the manga shows her in a bikini on the cover probably to appeal to fans of bikinis. Anyways I really like her design overall. Maybe Lucia having more modesty is why there is not a lot of hentai of her.

Everything from the 16 bit era could be considered cheap budget titles, it all depends on your point of view
>>4016935
What? No. They were cheap budget titles from the moment they were released. That's literally how they sold them.
There have always been smaller, cheaper, low-budget games that are sold alongside the AAA releases. That's what Valis was. It was a cute anime game to play while you saved up for the expensive AAA bikini armor game you really wanted, like Phantasy Star.
>>4016995
The thing with the Valis series is that all the budget went into hiring Voice Actors.

I've only played Valis III Genesis, but while I love the characters and atmosphere, the game itself leaves something to be desired. >>4027562
Completely disagree
>>4027634
You're a faggot, Castlevania controls worse than Valis. Fight me.
>>4027637
It completely doesn't. Valis III sometimes completely ignores inputs, the jump is weird, swinging towards the end of a jump locks you into a double attack you can't jump out of, magic's startup time and overall ineffectiveness makes it nearly useless unless you're the sister. The way you flinch is weird too. Oh, and attacking while crouching raises your hitbox even though you're visually the same height.
The big difference is that Castlevania is designed specifically around it's controls, and Valis just kinda throws enemies in so the levels aren't empty.
>>4027690

>It completely doesn't. Valis III sometimes completely ignores inputs
I played PCE Valis IV some years ago and saw something like this. For some reason, one of the playable characters (Amu) can't jump in certain part of the Babylon stage. The input simply doesn't work and you have to make the double jump from another position.
I don't know if other levels had this same issue, though.
>>4027745

>Detective girl Rinn is one of the few PC98 without censorship. I wonder how they got away with it.
There's plenty of PC88 games without censorship, even from big named like Elf. They got away with it because the public didn't care.
The reason it changed is the so called Saori Incident. A kid was arrested shoplifting an eroge named Saori -Bishoujo-tachi no Yakata-. This caused the public to become aware of the issue that had been forgotten since the 177 controversy. As an reaction to the outcry the eroge makers formed their own ethics authority to ensure compliance with certain standards.

In burger land you don't start first grade until you're 5-6 years old. It's really easy for parents to just not teach their kid that stuff if they neglect to.
>>4035613

You have hundreds of anime and thousands of games to pick from, likely more than you'll ever consume. Leave things that happened after 1999 to the people that enjoy them.
I'm not complaining that some girls don't wear bikini armor either.

Voice acting in Japan is considered a dignified and respectable career choice and even the cheapest shittiest Western cartoon if dubbed into Japanese would get a professional cast that would at least try to salvage the wreck they get from Canada or whatever.
Their union is so good they get residuals off foreign sales, which is why a lot of stuff is dub only; it's actually cheaper than having both.

Otaku went from demanding sexy to demanding cute and Western interest in Japan plummeted outside of niche circles who at best import things directly and at worst only pirate and never pay a cent.
Brace for 3DPD.
Star Virgin was a direct to video film from 1988 that got a tie-in MSX game.

>Star Virgin (film) 1979 - A futuristic robot teaches a Space Virgin of sex via various vignettes, such as two cheerleaders using oil to rape an unconscious quarterback to revive him for a game, a rendition of Eden, and Dracula preparing a female victim.
I..is the game based off this film?

Yes, you can freely combine heads and body.

I'm afraid there weren't many tie ins to 70s porn or pink films.

Villgust
Started as a Gatcha series and got turned into a SFC and a FC game as well as an OAV series.
A Mahjongg RPG
Can a robot wear bikini armor?
>>4047857
yeah it's unfortunate that it only got an insanely high budget looking commercial, a full ova series would have been amazing
>>4053080
Hot damn she has like no hips but other than that looks fucking great. I miss this kinda shit.
>>4051905
Hmm no I don't think that's it. A lot of the girls in this very thread look cute as fuck. Some have downright loli faces even if they are clearly teens/young adults.
It has to be something else.

YOU BEAT ME TO IT
Still pretty fucking good I must say
Monster Maker started out as a card game but turned into a big cross media series.
There's multiple games for GB, SNES and PC98 as well as one for FC, PCE (and GBA). A Saturn game but announced but never released.
>>4042449
At first I thought that was A-ko, B-ko, and C-ko on the cover.
>>4056118
I think we can count B-ko as monokini armor.
Looking for this game I initially tried something called "Project A" which turned out to be based on the Jackie Chan film.
>>4056780
>>4056785
why the fuck is that text romanized
almost looks like a trolls creenshot
>>4056789
Back then the option was either to use Latin alphabet or Katakana.
Not sure why Hiragana was out of question but Kanji required a special ROM chip that was sold separately from the computer.
>>4056785
well, how's the game itself?
>>4056941
Crap. You have monochromatic sprites that can't change direction. They flicker when they overlap so you can't really tell how many pirates attack you. I don't completely understand how you defeat the pirates. Even when only two of them were supposed to be left I was still attacked by three.
And the sprite doesn't look like Jackie.
Over a hundred bikini armor girls to choose from and who are people interested in? Jackie Chan.
>>4056996
is it any wonder?
>>4056996
Though Media is one sexy bikini armor wearing woman, the real star of the game is the evil Terarin.
She's the lewdest final boss I ever saw in a non-ero game and was my first monster girl.
The original artist for Chaos Angels, Yjinn, released an artbook with design notes and sketches.
I can't find any specific talk about bikini armor though.
He also remade a bunch of the images recently.

The game seems to employ a system where you have to eat regularly. The waitress told me a typical rhythm is wake up-> eat-> dungeoneer-> eat -> dungeoneer-> eat -> dungeoneer -> eat-> sleep.
The plot revolves around the queen searching for a husband via a dungeon quest so some of the quests seem to reflect your worth as a husband.
no Rusty yet?
this thread is magnificent btw
I believe in the Lodoss transcripts on Nicovideo the original players for Deedlit and Parn talked about Deedlit not wearing bikini armor.
The computer games at least give you some options. Every gender-race-class combination gets two portraits to pick from.
First come human warrior, knight, scout, priest, shaman. sorcerer, wizard followed by elf, dwarf and halfling with their more limited job choices.
One last élf game.
The thread started with Valis so it must end like Valis.

I pray every day that my favorite retro series never ends with a poor hentai game.
>>4060149
Frustrating thing about this for me is that I like erotic games, and adult conversions of non-adult games is something I like in theory.
But instead of making an actual action platform game with game-over rape (which would have been pretty straightforward to do; there's a decent number of good doujin games like that these days) they just made a novel-game with mediocre character art. The only way that could have been interesting is if they got original artists back.
>>4061778
Had any of the original artists published porn before
