What is the most ultimate, official, /vr/-approved CRT look when it comes to shaders? I've been trying Lottes and Geom, and while they look cool for a while, I feel like there might be something more ultimate, official and /vr/-approved out there. What's terrible is that after playing with these for a considerable amount of time, going back to the sharp pixellated look I used to love just doesn't feel right either.
I don't have room for a real CRT either.

Why do so many people actively try to be sheep? Is this what has happened to today's youth? It's surreal and very sad.

Geom is the most accurate I've seen so far if you're 100% relying on the shader. You can achieve a little natural bloom on plasma.

Shadow mask tv's are better.

Anyone else here take HDMI signals and downscale it to composite 480i solely to use it in a crt?
If so how do you feel knowing a pstv doesn't have much visual difference when passed through it?
>>
>>4009054

i usually play on a crt, but if this is a shader it looks fucking good

what is it?
>>
>>4009054
This is pretty neat to be honest. Good thing 4K monitors will be commonplace in the distant future when CRTs have finally died out.

Are you retarded? Not by a far shot.
Aperture grille grille CRTs are far nicer, they where used in the professional market and all VGA monitors that came with graphics/video workstations where aperture grille.

You probably never seen a good aperture grille TV.

Not that guy, but Shadow Mask is better, the pixels blends much better so there is less aliasing.
>>
>>4014825
Also VGA monitors are a meme for videogames. Some consoles even need a composite/RF signal so they can output transparency. Stop talking shit. The graphics needs the output artifacts to look good.

Is there a way to make these filters do the strange noise from the magnet degaussing the aperture mask/grille when starting the game, have it stay black for a second, and then have the picture start out blurry after which it quickly becomes sharper?

Not kidding, I'd like that. "Authentic" hardware emulation should not just extend to the consoles, but the peripheral devices as well. You'd also prefer to play using an original controller with an adapter over resorting to some Chinese 5$ USB replica trash, right?

>>
>>4019517
The TV only accepts RF input, not composite, s-video, etc. RF is the worst-looking video signal, but a lot of the oldest consoles only use RF, so that's okay.

It's an OK tv. Very good for very old consoles, and decent but not great for other systems.

Look up 199X, it's my default shader these days. Absolutely nails the look of a regular tv, including the Sonic waterfall test (where the individual pixels meld together to form a transparicy effect).

199X depends on Analog Shader Pack 3, so you first have to get that working. When you do you have to open the 199X cgp file and change the paths for every shader to match your Analog 3 folder. My file looks like this: https://pastebin.com/KuJRJv45

If you're still having problems look up the libretro forums

>>
I can't get that Analog Shader Pack 3 to work, apparently I need an Nvidia card. Is that really the only way or am I doing something wrong? Picking any of the cgp files in retroarch does absolutely nothing.
>>
>>4021758
Awesome! The pack is full of options and can be overwhelming if you try everything at once, find one you like and stick to it for a while.

>>4021852
Have you tried a glsl shader? It's a different file type, maybe that'll work. Also, the files that end in p are presets which point at different individual shaders. Try loading a single shader, a .cg file (not cgp) and see if it works.

As a last resort you could try slang shaders, which only work for the vulkan renderer.

Apparently you missed the part where the last 2 screens use a completely different shader that only adds scanlines and doesn't blurry the picture at all. Might want to pay more attention next time
