Like most Gradius games, if you can do the first level or so flawlessly then the game becomes a breeze because you can remain fully powered throughout the whole thing.
I want to love this series, but its balance is horrible. You're either cucked beyond belief (at a new game or a respawn) or your overppowered and steamrolling everything in your path with the greatest of ease.

For real, dude. Good game design would be making it possible to make it through a game without dying with just your pea-shooter. Bonuses not applicable

The Japanese arcade version of Lifeforce with the Gradius upgrade system is super hard. But yeah, the original is nicely balanced and a lot of fun. And it didn't require a shitload of continues to win.

After so many parabolic arcs of flame alternating between the top and bottom of the screen, it does the top twice in a row. It will fuck you if you aren't expecting it, and I'm sure you probably know that if you die even once you might as well kamikaze and start the game over again.
I think after the 4th set it does that

Thanks I'll keep that in mind
