Getting to Yellow Devil is kind of tricky. The boss itself is laughably easy.

Elec Man, Ice Man, the bubble in wily stage 3 and the wily machine are all much harder bosses in MM1

Also, World 5 was cool because you started in the ground but teleported to the skies using the tower, it felt good.

One of the things about Klobber Karnage is that the level is glitched if you play with Zsnes, instead of controlling the direction of the barrels (pic related) they spin non-stop automatically, I mean, you can alternate directions (clockwise or counterclockwise) but they never stop in place like intended, since Zsnes is known for being popular among plebs, it's very possible that they didn't even knew that the level was glitched and just thought that it was intended to be ultra extra hard.

If I didn't know anybetter I would say the entire world population never made it past world 1-2.

You'd think you can attribute that to the fact that there is almost no variation in the tiles, but then that doesn't explain why nobody remembers anything about the first water or castle levels.

I'd agree that the upstairs snow level os probably the most forgotten level. The Submarine/basement water level being next but it had a manditory star past a star door which was werid/asset it apart. Second snow level was pretty fun though. Had a Koopa shell, where I always lost my hat.

I actually looked it up because I had wondered that myself. Turns out the first bridge connecting Honshu and Shikoku was finished in 1988, the Year SMB3 was released in Japan, which makes it plausible.

But then again, by that time there already existed a bridge connecting Honshu and Kyushu (the other small island farther west), which is not depicted in-game, so it's not clear whether they were explicitly referencing real landmarks.

Pretty much any level in SMB that isn't 1-1, 1-2, 4-1, 4-2, or world 8. Just about everyone uses the warps to jump ahead and many have never even seen the white trees of world 5, or that one Black and White level in world 6.

World 3 in Super Mario USA. I didn't realize it until one day I decided to sit down and play through every level and not use warps, I had NEVER seen world 3 before. I had occasionally gone to world 2 instead of warping, but 99% of the time I would warp to world 4. It was a real trip playing these levels that had always been there but I had never seen nor played. I had beaten the game countless times, but never played around in world 3 before. Giant crab and three headed snake were cool bosses.

Huge contender. Sonic 2 is a bit long especially for a game that requires you to play it all in one sitting and it was going to be even longer had they not scrapped all that stuff. It slows down a lot after Aquatic Ruin and that continues until you get to Metropolis, that 3 Act monstrosity with the annoying starfish things.

I think you could remove Oil Ocean and the game would still be just as good. The pace is already in a downward spiral by the time you get there and you spend most of the level going higher and higher and just collecting rings because you can. Good song to veg out to though

If you ask me Tiny Huge Island and Tall Tall Mountain always blended together for me and became forgettable, TTM more so.

I'd argue Summers is pretty forgettable, nothing really amazing happens here, it's heavily separated from the rest of the world, and you don't need to revisit ever.
