I really like the PS3 edition port.

It isn't that text heavy but you kind of need it. It's got a lot of NPCs that hint at things and there are signs that help out with stuff like controls and additional tips.

If you go blind into the game you'll be fine and can certainly beat it with pure trial and error, but you'll BE curbstomped hard in the ice pyramid stage, starting with a 10 question long quiz that randomply picks from like maybe 20 or 30 variables, then to a puzzle that requires you using five items in order which you must do 3 times.

No. There are parts you need to be able to read. But with some sort of guide that includes a bit of Japanese you'd have to match with what you see on the screen it should be fine. No idea why you would want to do this though. Fake weeb cred?

Not quite. I've kind of got a stick up my ass about playing cartridge instead of emulation. I've been looking around now and then for an English repro that'd both be reasonable of price and not have a piece of fucking plywood for a pcb. If it's super simple and Japanese is not requiref for more than story, I could widen my search to jap carts as well.

I guess it's like the difference between getting a realistic dildo and a green vibrator with pleasure nodules. One's clearly a better product than the other, but I'll still pine for that false sense of authenticity.

What I don't get is who the fuck is paying the inflated prices for these fucking repros. Usually I can get enough of them for 50bux to sink a small boat.

I finished it just fine when I was 10 years old.
Local cartridge seller got some nice stuff from Japan in the mail and got me Monster World IV because I was always asking for JRPGs for MegaDrive (all games in my country were bootlegs, so it was hard to find them).

My dad helped me with this puzzle. He recorded questions to VCR and wrote key symbols on paper for me.
That's probably the hardest part, but I'm sure you can do it.
But at this point if I was you, I would buy an Everdrive.

Sure, but playing it as a teenager while not having a internet conection at home was pretty challenging.
Doing annotations for the quiz actually encouraged me to learn moonrunes (that and the gallery from Rockman & Forte) so I'm thankful of it but it's definitely the "hardest" part of the game for a non jap speaker.

my brother got the Wiiware version of this, and after watching him play a bit I had a go.
I noticed the npc's have odd responses if you pick negative dialogue responses.
