What are the really good games on this thing? The only games I've even beat are Magical Tree and Goonies.
I only ever hear people talk about the Konami games, especially Metal Gear. Any underrated or really solid third party games?
I like platformers, action rpgs and shooters (shmups), so anything along those lines.

Do you have MSX2? I would recommend the very best Xevious ever (Fardraut Saga) if you did.
>>3991659
Not currently, though that's a cool suggestion, I have it on pc engine
Is it similar or different enough?
>>3991661
PC Engine game is the sequel to the MSX2 game. Totally different levels (though they both contain excellent ports of the arcade version as well).
>>3991650
>platformers, action rpgs
Xanadu. Preferably the MSX1 cartridge version, not the MSX2 disk version.

This. Most of the Dragon Slayer series should be on MSX right? I also really enjoyed pic related but it's an MSX2 game. Is Welcome To Heaven an MSX1 game? It was pretty decent and in that vein. I went on a bend where I really played a lot of MSX games and a lot of them were pretty good. Unlike Amiga, on MSX you can tell the good games from the shitty games pretty quickly.

>I only ever hear people talk about the Konami games
You might have heard from the wrong people then.
Compile, Micro Cabin, Falcom and HAL Laboratory games are usually popular titles on this platform.

>no hardware scrolling
Can anyone recommend some games that don't try that janky software scrolling you see in half the library? I want to get into some MSX games but the scrolling gets on my nerves.

>>no hardware scrolling
MSX 2 models have vertical hardware scrolling and 2+ ones both vertical and horizontal.
>>3992020
Cool, still doesn't answer my question.
>>3992028
Just check Zanac EX and the Aleste games if you want smooth scrolling or single-screen games if you don't want any scrolling at all.
>>3992046
Zanac EX looks fun, thanks.

I just picked up an MSX2 a few months ago, reccomendations are almost all going to be MSX2 as MSX games are just a little too limited. Check Treasure of Usas, Gradius 2 (NOT Gofer no Yabou, though both are good the former is an MSX exclusive, the latter is a port of arcade Gradius 2), Maze of Galious and Space Manbow, an amazing MSX2 exclusive shmup by Konami.

Most konami stuff is worth trying out.
Aleste 2 and Aleste Gaiden are decent shmups. Undeadline

The DS games from Romancia onward are Japanese which the MSX crowd tends to struggle with.
I don't think the MSX is the best choice for the rest either.

Usas has a god tier soundtrack

The game itself is solid as hell too. These two guys might as well be Luigi and Mario
>>3992504
I didn't like how they watered down the ending twist in the EN version.
Konami can really make any system sound good
