I also think it's kind of cool she's not a "voice actress". Dragon's Lair isn't at all dialog driven so they just grabbed some staff artist who's voice they liked and she ended up actually delivering some in the form of hints.
>>
Absolutely.
>>
>>3990442

This was the standard back in the 80s and 90s, it's really sweet compared to how big of a deal it is now. Damn near every 90s adventure game with voice acting did this and some have surprisingly decent performances.

Was there any arcade game with CD, LP or similar audio playback before DL did its LD thing?
>>
>>3990481

Not only does that happen but it's basically encouraged, drawing characters naked allows you to get a good understanding of their proportions when you DO put clothes on them and sexy poses are some of the trickiest shit to draw. There's no fucking way Bluth didn't doodle Daphne naked a bunch of times first and he probably got a stiffy before he decided on 'the one'.

On this note, drawing porn is a pretty effective way to git gud at drawing, lets you get to grips with perspective, proportion and sometimes ridiculous poses. I'm sure many artists do it.

There were quite a few arcade games that used film strips like the original Wild Gunman but I'm pretty sure they were all live action so they probably actually did "casting" such as it would have been. I felt like there was a discreet logic racing game like Manaco GP that had like a tape loop of police chatter but I can't find it.
>>
>>3990549
80s Disney wasn't lazy, 70s was.
>>
>>3990558

Well, up to about 86 I'd say. Disney eventually caught up but Bluth definitely gave them a kick in the ass, the animation in something like The Fox & The Hound is dull as dishwater.
>>
No pussy is worth fighting a dragon.
>>
Just go out and rent a whore.
>>
>>3990583
Shame that Bluth himself dulled out instead. Nimh, American Tail or Land Before Time were great but his 90s stuff is garbage.
I think Fox and the Hound was a step up. It marked the end of the nine old men and the rise of a new generation.
>>
>>3990481
>Do you think people who are exceptionally good at drawing ever draw hot females naked or in sex poses
Yes. In fact, this is pretty much encouraged in anatomy 101 classes. To draw people in the nude at every age and gender and build, and in every pose/activity you can imagine, so the pornographic is not far off to all but the most prude.

>and then beat off to them?
No, or at least not the majority of artists I think, even pornographic ones. When you're that involved with something on such a creative/technical level, you know every sum of its parts, perceived flaws and all, so it's hard to use it as fetish fantasy material. It might be born of a wet dream, but it hardly becomes the object of one.
>>
>>3990606

I agree, 70s Disney sunk to far worse depths but Fox & The Hound seemed like a good enough example as it was the film that made Bluth and the other animators jump ship. He was a man out of time in the 80s honestly, those first three films are terrific but all the dark subject matter had critics and executives on his back constantly, no doubt leading to him making garbage like A Troll in Central Park. It's especially annoying timing as darker plots were being embraced by Disney just as he was cutting off his own balls.
>>
>>3990631
I wondered if Judith Barsi's death was part of the reason.
>It's especially annoying timing as darker plots were being embraced by Disney just as he was cutting off his own balls.
The darkness in Black Cauldron or Oliver & Company really went out of hand.
>>
>>3990651

God, I hate remembering that shit. Never been able to hear her characters the same way since reading about it. Wouldn't surprise me if it threw their plans for a loop seeing how much Bluth re-used actors. The subway scene in Oliver scared the shit out of me as a kid but Cauldron is one of those things I didn't even know existed until years later, about the only Disney film I never saw a VHS reissue for. They definitely lost the plot for a while.

>Japanese CG animation is expanding but so far it's part of the overall growth of the industry and not replacing anything.
Bullshit. I don't follow new anime hardly at all, but everytime I watch something new, it's cel-shaded 3D garbage.

The boon of 3D is that it takes no talent to get something that looks homogeneous. Everybody works with the same models and the same riggings and everything. The skill is in how artists make things move, which is a lot harder to appreciate than how things look, but is arguably more important.

Good uses of 3D are like Ghost in the Shell, where it is blended with 2D to enhance certain scenes. Bad uses are like the new Berserk, where characters move stiltedly and the camera work makes scenes incomprehensible.

Thinking about it like this, I think what rubs me wrong about 3D is that it takes so little discipline. Basic things like cinematography and composition can be totally forgotten about without realizing it.

>>
>>3991280
Yeah, I meant for using it to stylize 3D animation, not games.
>>
>>3991280
Actually, something like this would be excellent for GPU acceleration and FPGA implementaion. I bet you could definitely get one of these shaders to work in real time.

>Why doesn't someone figure how to make 3D look good already?
3D already looks good enough to make a profit without super slick animation; just make it flashy. Hence the 20 Transformers movies.
>>
>>3990135
The animators admitted to using Playboy pin-ups as references when drawing her.
>>
>>3991297
>excellent for GPU acceleration
True, and fast and cheap GPUs are pretty much the reason why the whole machine learning thing is happening. Unfortunately, it currently takes minutes to hours to apply a style transfer to a single image even with the GPU acceleration.
>shaders
That's the thing, though: these aren't really shaders. They can't be expressed as normal vec2 -> vec4 GLSL functions or whatever because they work on the image as a whole. It may be possible to have a neural network generate shaders that produce somewhat similar effects, but that is a different problem.
>>
>>3991330
I was using the word "shader" loosely as the kernel running on the GPU. It can be anything, and a core can pull from memory anywhere except memory private to other cores, although local memory is greatly preferred.

I don't know what algorithms produce these images. I only know really basic neural net stuff. I don't know how people have extended those models.
>>
>>3991348
If you know a bit about neural networks and want to learn how style transfer is done, try reading https://arxiv.org/pdf/1508.06576.pdf. It's a fairly accessible paper and the idea is just cool enough to help you work through it.

>>
>>3991405

>>
>>3991135
As >>3991280 said, processing time is one issue. The other is temporal coherency. Essentially you can apply these filters to single images and they look fine in still frames, but once you have a sequence of images you need to make sure that you don't have sudden jumps or inversions. Take the "starry knight" example in the bottom left. The algorithm might decide to place the stars at completely different locations in the frame, screwing the effect when in motion.
There's approaches where you consider several frames at a time, essentially turning this from a 2d into a 3d problem. The problem with those is that they of course take more computation time and, even worse, require you to wait for further frames before you can output the current one, leading to higher latency.
>>
>>3991135
Guilty Gear Xrd I think does a good job with filtering and shading 3d models to give them an actual interesting style similar to what you expect from 2d sprites.

Also to keep it /vr/ related, I really like Guilty Gear X. It is how a sequel should be done.

This is probably irrelevant because most (maybe all) of the porn he draws "of" real people exhibits so much of the lazy sameface design he applies to pretty much all his work that they may as well be original characters (who happen to all be sisters or something).
>>
>>3990389

All of Bluth's girls look the same.
>>
>>3990623

>>3993574

Everything I've read suggests Crumb was just a hustler and didn't have any real interest in the movie from the get go, even after getting a decent settlement he still made it his life mission to shit all over it. It's a pretty great film for 1972, way ahead of its time and wouldn't be anywhere near as famous without Bakshi making the last quarter dark as fuck.
