Do you think that Sega could of still been a bigger game company if they focused more on their home consoles than their arcades? Their cabinets where dominating the 90's and it was only until recently I played a ton of them growing up. Games like Daytona USA (ARC) were fantastic too play/look at that I was bummed it had a pretty lackluster home port (I know power between arcades > home port is different) but I feel it would of benefited more if there was more put in the home ports.
Maybe I'm just misinformed why they really did that but this has always baffled me.

Daytona on Saturn is OK, I don't think any of the 5th gen systems could have managed Daytona closely to the arcade version, none until Dreamcast.
Still you got games like VF2 and Sega Rally that were just better ports.
I think Sega focusing only on their consoles would have held back their potential. No home system could have managed Virtua Fighter in 1993, not even the Neo Geo, or any consumer computer available at the time. It was a real arcade experience, you just couldn't get that at your home unless you were legit rich.
Sega was great at home systems too, the real reason for Sega sinking was the PlayStation, not any silly "sega of japan were evil and were boycotting the company" rumors.
Sega was struggling with a strong opponent.

Dreamcast was practically identical to Naomi arcade hardware with arcade perfect ports of AM2 titles out the ass and that didn't save it. Ditto for Genesis, based on the successful System 16. The main reason Saturn's ports are lackluster by comparison is that its sister arcade hardware the Model 1 wasn't super prolific although I personally love Wing War and Star Wars Arcade was huge, I guess it must have been some licensing issue that kept it from coming to Saturn - and lack of link-play for Wing War maybe?

Arcades were just as profitable as home consoles back then and also the only field Sega was really the king at, that's like advocating for post Snes Nintendo to drop out of the handheld market.
>>

saturn and model 1 are not related in any way.
>>

The Saturn's sister hardware was the STV. Those ports (Radiant Silvergun, Die Hard Arcade) were very good and close to the quality of the arcade games.

Didn't the ST-V come later? It's just basically a solid state Saturn in an arcade cabinet right?
>>
>>3987204
It came out the same year as the Saturn. It's the same thing as the Naomi and Dreamcast.

>Do you think you're retarded?
I don't. But I think Sega was and is. Honestly they would have been done better to concentrate on their arcade shit and let other people take the blame for shit console ports.

>underage gramps doesn't miss a beat. Right back in there telling us how it was
Except it wasn't But at least your consistent. At being wrong.
>>
>>3987204
It would be like saying Model 3 was a Dreamcast relative. Hardware wise, Model 1 and 2 were totally different than ST-V and Saturn.
>>
>>3986421
No. The whole design ideology of what made Sega games so fucking good was that they were designed for the arcades. There wouldn't have been a Saturn or a Dreamcast as I remember them, it would have just been another playstation or xbox.
