shining force 3 thread
sega saturn discussion
can I get a quick rundown on this guys?
Playing Shining The Holy Ark right now as my intro to the series, is 3 a good follow up once I've finished?

I think so. Probably helps that Holy Ark is actually a prequel to 3.
I don't know if it's OP or another guy, but there's an anon who's been posting Shining Force III all throughout this month on /vr/.
Can't tell if it's a meme or just an obsessed guy.
Good game though.

I do like Shining Force 3 (I'm halfway through Scenario 3) but so far, except for a few battles in Scenario 2, it doesn't do a really good job of recapturing the magic from the first 2 games.
The beginning was too political imo. Only in Scenario 2 did it start to feel more like the old games. So far scenario 3 is good, but I can't help but think I'm going to be disappointed by the end.
I want to purchase a Saturn but knowing how bad these consoles got handled by their owners throughout the years really makes me jittery about it.

This.
I'm probably just gonna get a Saturn pad and use SSF....if I can ever figure out SSF.

What makes you think Saturns were abused more than any other console?

Best Treasure game.
I played a bit of scenario 1. I did like how the setting seemed more elaborate than past games but it still felt rather bland. In fact, I felt like there was too much meaningless dialogue and people making faces and reacting to other people making faces and whatnot. I understand that it was supposed to help with characterization and stuff but I feel it was wasted because the characters were boring regardless.
As far as gameplay goes, the character 'support' bonuses were somewhat interesting but I really hated how the gameplay relied on random activations of critical hits and special attacks. Also, the gameplay felt really slow and tedius to play despite being fairly shallow.
I thought Shining Force 1 was decent and Shining Force 2 was terrible. My favourite TRPG series include Langrisser, Front Mission, and Tactics Ogre. Should I give this game another try one day, or is it just not for me?

Not him, but my Saturn obviously came from a smoker's house and needed a very thorough cleaning, and it had a very shoddy modchip installation.

Got mine from a random dude off Craigslist several months ago. Besides some cosmetic damage, scratches on the console and controller, it works like a charm. I've seen them floating around and they're generally in decent condition. Might just have to change the watch battery in the back and I would definitely get the better controller. Not that abomination on the left.

how good's the emulation these days? do i need a good pc to run it?
>>3987429
Well it's not perfect but ssf really goes a long way these days. Currently Playing Panzer Dragoon and I do get some horizontal lines which I hear even people playing on the console with a burned CD will also have. So not perfect but certainly accurate enough to be quite enjoyable.
