How tricky is it to find PC98 images? Can't seem to find many good archives online.

Woah, thank you so much anon

Some guy used to post PC 98 images all the time but I haven't seen him lately.

They're up to the letter M so it will probably take another year until they're through.

Thanks. Can anyonetell me if any of these links is a decent pc-98 emulator and if not what emulator to use? I tried looking years ago and don't remember finding something

Tokugawa Corps is your best resource for all your old school japanese computer stuff; about the emulator, i'd suggest to download both Neko Project and Anex, as some of the images seems to be a bit specific when it comes to this; some are more compatible with Neko and some are with Anex.
Also, i think Neko Project can also run PC88 images if you're interested about those too.
>>
If you want a simple intro to NP2, check here: http://46okumen.com/pc-98-emulation/

Don't use Anex86. Please don't. It's so old and hasn't been maintained at all beyond simple compatibility with current versions of Windows.
>>
>>3983732
That's awesome
>>3984037
NP2 has been pretty friendly to use for me, but that page is super handy. Thanks
>>
>>3983694
Just use Google image search, I found plenty.
>>
>>3984564
Floppy and hard disk images, not screenshots.
>>
>>3983694
Some anon presented me with this link not long ago and now I'm passing it to you. Enjoy.

>How tricky is it to find PC98 images?
Very.

NEC were quite particular with making sure the anti-photography chipsets inside their computers were fully functional. Many a photographer, both amateur and pro alike, have been thwarted by a PC-9801 that suddenly turned into a small robot and immediately fled the area before any pictures could be taken.

In contrast, the Sharp x68000 home computer had no such features in its engineering and instead would, through a series of voice commands, assume different poses for pictures to be taken. This, coupled with its extensive library of popular arcade titles, is widely considered to be the defining reason why it was the superior machine.
>>
>>3987192
>extensive library of popular arcade titles
How many does it really have, 50?
And are you people so used to wrong terms like ROM or ISO that you don't know what an image is?
>>
>>3987247
C'mon man, don't get triggered by funposting.
>>
>>3987247

Laugh, you autistic little shit. Laugh, or get the fuck out.

That was an objectively funny post.
>>
>>3987271
Is is really funny when 90% of your library is PC98 ports?
>>
>>3987291
Okay, let's not allow a mild case of asshurt to push us into the realm of fantasy.

I'm the faggot that made the 68k post. If you didn't find it funny, that's fine, but don't turn the thread into some stupid tribalistic "98 v 68k" flamewar. That wasn't my intention, and it shouldn't be yours, either.

why would they do that?
>>
>>3987373
To make money.
>>
>>3987356
Here have some source code: https://github.com/46OkuMen/rusty

As far as I'm aware there's no trojan or anything like that in the version distributed from our site or RHDN. Careful getting it from anywhere else though.
>>
>>3987528
Also if you want to avoid the patcher entirely, try the full disk patches distributed on our site with the complete or Mac/Linux versions. They're just xdelta patch files so you can feel safer with those.
>>
>>3987530
How are we supposed to know the patch itself doesn't work as a trojan?
>>
>>3987192
I loled
>>
>>3987808
how do we know this comment isn't a trojan
>>
>>3987846
It's too simple to produce runnable code.
Emulators are long known to serve as an attack vector, hence why you should only download images from trustworthy sites.
>>
>>3987852

it got 4 results here, but it might be a small case of patchers in general?
regardless the english version of the game already patched will become common later, so this isn't an issue i suppose.
>>
>>3987808
That's weird as hell. I'll see what we can do in the future, as we were planning to eventually open up the patcher so other PC-98 hackers could more easily patch stuff in the future. Don't want it spreading those sorts of things. Going to look into the components and see if there's anything wrong with them.
>>
>>3988247
Did some digging and apparently it has to do with how PyInstaller packages files together. A Hello World executable made with it has supposedly tripped different anti-virus programs in the past. The four that tripped for the RustyPatcher executable are older Chinese and Russian software that might not have been updated.

All that being said, if it is a concern for you then use the base xdelta files. You can get your patcher directly from xdelta themselves (the source of which you can even compile yourself) to apply the full disk patches and not have to worry about it at all.

It's more fun when you make up your own plot anyway.

>>3989668
Okay, name a PC-98 game and explain the plot that you made up for it

just look up the CG images on sadpanda and go along with your imagination, 9 out of 10 times the original story isn't worth bothering with

if anyone is interested modified version of neko project emulator for texthooking (like 80% of all PC-98 VNs can be easily hooked with this and ITH):

With little imagination you can understand most of it. Or better yet you can just use it while learning Japanese to look up runes you don't know yet.

Just use Kanjitomo. It works really well for PC98 games due to the high resolution and solid background for text.

>Even though I was concentrating on the scenery, I did not notice Sophia at all.
That translation is pretty bad.
Concentrating on the scenery is part of the reason for not noticing Sophia.
>>
>>3989774
Is that computer translations off of some website? You do know that Google translate and all those services have pretty severe issues that literally any native speaker of the language will notice, right?
>>
>>3990367
>severe issues that literally any native speaker of the language will notice, right?
You don't have to be a native speaker for that.
>>
>>3990260
Machine translation is shit, that doesn't need saying.

But your understanding of that sentence is flawed too.

Both of its halfs refer to something mentioned previously and list two reasons for it. Notice もあるが in the first half, especially the も, that should have been the tell.

Here's a generic English translation that showcases how it all works:
>"Focusing on the scenery was also at fault, but it happened because I didn't notice Sophia was there."
Like I said, "it" refers to something mentioned previously. Obviously with context available you'd change "it happened" in the translation to something more specific to the situation at hand.
>>
>>3990367
You don't say.

I wonder how these screens would look like on actual hardware
