Which console is the king of side-scrollers / platformers?

IMO, all three consoles are pretty tied up in terms of side-scrollers/platformers. These 3 are the kings of that type of game.
I think SNES has more games in total, and many good ones, so maybe SNES is the number 1, but NES and Genesis are pretty close. No other system comes close, maybe GBA, but not retro.

I would call for the NES.

A lot of the concepts first established there were later recycled on other platforms. Those later titles may have been more polished and well-rounded, relying on those rich sources to draw from.
Personally however, I find it charming how on the NES - not least due to the technical limitations - these now common concepts are explored in a very bold, if sometimes blunt, manner. Makes them feel very unique to me.

It was hit and miss, we all know the kind of crap the NES produced. But some of those gems, they still shine, man.

NES had Shatterhand, Shadow of the Ninja and Chōjin Sentai Jetman.

Therefore it wins by default.

Genesis has the best stuff, but SNES is really close, with the Goemon games probably being the best of that list.

Genesis have all slow and fast platformes game. but most are fast.
for SNES most game are slow to very slow but slow game are good for view nice color background and hear nice tone music along playing.
then I think SNES are better for slow platformers.

I think game like sonic or donkey kong country can run very fast because gameplay are blank ,verysmall or less of enemy on screen,

Developer design most game on SNES with slow gameplay,because it very ugly if game run fast befor but slow and slower after have 4 enemy onscreen or big size boss.
