I enjoy the sprite work in this game, it's very vibrant and colorful. Usually I don't like shot'em ups when your shots wipe out half the screen though. My favorite 20 minute/kill time Shmups are Marx Matrix and Ikaruga.

I've only played DonPachi. I wanted to play the first before moving onto the second.

I originally wanted to 1cc it before moving onto the sequel but I'm beginning to suspect that's not the best way to approach games in a series like this.

Also I have problems emulating DonDonPachi on MAME for some reason and I'm too much of a lazy shit to figure it out.

No they aren't and only a pleb who can't clear them would say so. The biggest difference is recovery, dx is tuned to give you a fair bit more leeway in the form of full power drops both on respawn and at set places in the game, raiden 2 is a 1 life game. Raiden dx does have harder scoring for sure but that's a different argument.

I just found an In the Hunt machine at my local ice skating rink. The monitor has some coloration issues on the left half but seems to work pretty well otherwise and only costs a quarter.
