The SCD is the only version to get a localization. That said, the localization was done by Working Designs. They seem to be hit or miss around here.

Has anybody ever gone through and modded the JP version with the English text? I know there was a number of unpopular gameplay changes made in localization and I don't know if it would be easier to translate the JP version or modify the US gameplay

Modding SegaCD. Everything about this is painful as all hell, I've worked with PSX, Dreamcast and GBA and the Sega CD is a fucking enigma wrapped in a mystery.

Inaccuracies aside I love Working Designs. They gave us a ton of shit we never would have seen stateside otherwise, and I enjoyed much of their humor when I was growing up.
That said, beware: they cranked the difficulty the fuck up for the Popful Mail US release. I like it that way, but others may not.
>>3970327
I've played through the greater part of the game. Never beat it because my PC died and erased my save
>>3971142
What exactly is different gameplay-wise between versions?
>>3973065
Like all Working Designs localizations, enemies do twice as much damage.
>>3973078
I only played a couple of hours of it, and it was really only hard during boss battles. Doubling damage seems like a weird localization choice, though.
>>3973159
>weird localization choice, though
It was anti-rental measure, americans loved doing it.
>>3973159
Also I'm not sure but I THINK they made items and equipment twice as expensive in shops.

>they cranked the difficulty the fuck up for the Popful Mail US release
This was the reason I didn't feel bad for save scumming in this game. If you weren't allowed to save anywhere outside boss fights, I doubt I would have had the tenacity to finish it.
