How does /vr/ feel about the Medal of Honor games?
It and Underground are must-plays. They're the closest things to having a Goldeneye on the Playstation.I found Allied Assault and Frontline disappointing in comparison
My first experience was renting Underground and it was so bad I returned it ASAP.
That's the only retro one I played so there's my two cents. *jim face*

What didn't you like about it?

My problem was with the controls, mostly the aiming, causing the whole experience to just fall apart for me.
Only played Allied Assault and it was literally just generic run and gun but with a Spielberg aesthetic.
CoD was designed as a MoH killer and that wasn't too hard to do with the bar set so low.

It's kind of funny since a number of MoH devs went on to work on CoD. It's safe to assume CoD1 and UO were the games that they wanted to create in the first place, since you could tell with Allied Assault that they wanted to create a cinematic experience with NPC allies accompanying you. The Normandy level is the most glaring example because in AA there aren't that many NPCs on the beach with you, and in Frontline it's even worse, like 5-6 at most.

I played that and ungerground. good games. liked them a lot
I remember for the longest time thinking the games played perfectly on a dpad and thumb sticks were a mistake

Those two games did play perfectly on a dpad because everything is built around it, the AI, the enemy movements etc.
Analog controls make zero sense in sub-60fps games.
MOH and MOHU are perfection, I wish we could get again a ww2 game with that kind of atmosphere.

MoHAA was literally made by the same team that would found Infinity Ward. Referring to MoHAA as CoD0 isn't much of a stretch.
