You're a faggot if you hate Solbrain.

Shatterhand has generally more refined bosses.
Also having a power armor suit as an ultimate power-up > having a blaster.

If TCRF and what little I do know about Solbrain are anything to go by, this game likely began as Shatterhand since the beginning, or something original like it. I don't think the game even had much to do with the series to begin with.

Illusion of Gaia for Hanging Garden of Babylon boss tidy-up and difficulty-increases
>>3963584
>ain't it just easier, though?
No. Unlike most Contra games, Hard Corps it was designed around two-hit deaths instead of one-hit deaths. All of the encounters were designed with this in mind. That's why there are a few cheap hits in the game, including some that are unavoidable. They're designed to take you down to one HP in order to raise the stakes, not kill you outright.
The American version changes it so you can only take one hit, but it doesn't change the cheap shit (or anything else) to compensate. It's harder due to bad design, not increased challenge. The game comes with multiple difficulty modes to raise the difficulty in a well-designed way. Fucking up the HP system was just a bad idea implemented in a lazy way.
