What's your favorite Mega Man game?
>>3961549
That's a great game but NOT RETRO
>>3961552
>That's a great game
Was, and always will be, Megaman 3
Megaman Battle Network 3
Second Megaman Legends
Out of the platformers, Megaman 3
>>3961542
Mega Man X4.
>>3961602
Except the Doc Robot stages. Those are just... no.
>>3961542
Cave Story.
I've never played a MM game all the way through ;_;
>>3961814
>I've never played a MM game all the way through
How about you do that now, you lazy fuck.
>>3961768
doc stages are kino and you're a faggot
3 will always be king
>>3961542
Journey to Silius
>>3961768
>I'm bad at Mega Man
Got it
>>3961826
they're probably too hard
>>3961542
Mega Man X6
I know it's a pleb answer, but 2.
>>3961542
any of these is fine
>>3961542
Classic 2 and X4.
Megaman 2 and 5.
Megaman X 1 and 2.
>>3961542
Unironically X1-6
X1 was fantastic
X2 the Zero fight
X3 mods to play as Zero
X4 Zero
X5 mods that fix Alia
X6 is so bad it's good
I love Zero 2-4 too and
ZX
Tight controls, and Omega
>>3962693
Most of these aren't even games you fucking philistine.
I know it's
>not retro
But the zero series
If I have to pick something retro only, then 4 I guess
>>3961542
MMX and MML
>>3961602
Ma nigga.
My first Mega Man. Best balance between gameplay and polish. Later iterations added more to the gameplay (charge shots, Rush Adaptors), but none had the same level of polish in stages, bosses, weapons and dificulty.
>>3961542
>Classic
6 (even if its the worst one)
>X
2
>Legends
1
>Zero
2
>Arcade
Power Battles
>Battle Network
1
DuckTales
Castlevania II: Simon's Quest
>>3961542
Legends, easily and without a doubt.
Maybe it's just because I've already played the first two to death, but as for the X series I actually really like 5. It's weird, because I didn't actually like it quite as much when I was younger and generally more easily impressed.
>>3964132
X,X4,X5 and command mission
>>3961542
Megaman Zero... Scenario design was boring but boss design and story was just awesome... Also it has bosses that were actually fun to fight and beat. This was pretty much non existent on series after X4.
>>3961542
My favorite Mega Man game created by Keiji Inafune, the creator of Mega Man is Mega Man 3, the first game created by Keiji Inafune.
>>3963951
Do you actually like the game play? I think the setting is cool, but I could never look past the gameplay or huge infodumps at the tail end of each game to really be a fan of them.
Personally, I like the Zero games best followed closely by the NES classic ones.
The first Megaman, X3 and the Misadventures of Tron Bonne
Megaman X
>>3962693
Megaman X had a pc port ?!
I'm tempted to say my favorite is 4, at least out of the original six games.
Beyond that, I'm not really sure. X1? Maybe Zero 2? I should play the newer ones more often.
>>3964987
Yeah, there's a DOS port of X1. It's.... not very good.
megaman x2
megaman V
megaman 7
megaman battle network 3
megaman x4
if only i could go back to 2003 ;_;
>>3961542
Powered Up, just cause I like to play as Roll.
X
Demon's Crest.
X5
4 is my favourite in the original classic series, but they all range from good to great.
If we count 9 and 10, 9 is the best by far. Every single step you make in the game is masterfully crafted.
>>3961542
X1 for being arguable the most revolutionary game in the series, and X4 for being a sequel that actually improves on its predecessors.
>>3962907
>X5 mods that fix alia
X5 is my favorite game but I fucking hate Alia.Where can I find these mods?
>>3961542
megaman 3
>>3961542
5, because it's the one I have and nostalgia is skewing my opinion
plus it was the only one easy enough for young babby me to beat
>>3961542
Mega Man Battle and Chase
Rockman & Forte by far. Shame it's not more well-known.
>>3971084
I love Rockman&Forte, especially playing as Bass.
However it has a lot of bs moments.
>>3961542
ZX advent
Legends by far
only played 8 and x5 ...tie? both are ok to kind of awesome.
>>3971145
Like in Burner Man stage, with the giant flotting robots dropping fire that takes up to half of the screen. It's almost impossible not to get hit during that part no matter how good your reflexes are, at least until you learn every single enemy placement by heart and start shooting in prediction of that.
For instance half way through that part, the layout splits and you can take a upper route for a very short moment. If you take the upper route one of those giant thingies comes hitting you super fast and the only way to avoid it is to slide backwards a split second before the thing even spawns.
There there are the centipedes in ground man stage, not the mini boss one, the smaller ones that keep coming out of holes. Most of them are super hard not to get hit against unless you know precisely how to kill them and where, so you have just enough time to make it before a 2nd one spawns.
Then there are level design when you have to go down, but can't see what's down there, only to fall into spikes or mines, and that was playing the original version, I don't even want to think of the GBA port.
I loved MM&B, but there is a bullshit like this in almost every single level. Thankfully I'm patient and there isn't enough of it to make me dislike the game, but it still hinders gameplay and prevents the game from being truly great.
It's only when my friend played the game after me that I realized the amount of BS moments.
Trying to beat X1 while saving Chill Penguin for last. What's the best way to kill Spark Mandrill?
>>3975492
Without ice or upgrades, I'd at least make sure to bring Storm Eagle's weapon. Whatever weapon you actually use against him, you'll have to learn Spark Mandrill's patterns and get good at jumping over his attacks.
>>3961542
ZX
or Oper.ShootingStar
What's up with these rooms in X2? I've found several empty rooms like this in game. The radar weapon acts like there is something in the middle, and also the silk weapon doesn't work in any of the room, but works if you just do one step outside.
is it a glitch or is there something there?
>>3976173
room 2
>>3976173
room 3
>>3976182
Ah thanks
>>3973269
That last section of burner man's stage is definitely quite bullshit, I give you that. Also burner man himself is quite tough, its probably harder to use the weapon he's weak to then your regular weapon. Never had problems with ground man though, that stage just requires some patience.
I think MM&B is interesting in that it appears that difficulty was given more focus. I remember getting game overs even on repeated playthroughes, it was cool honestly.
>>3962152
Do megaman 2. Metal man, woodman, Bubble man, air man, heat man then whoever else will be easy as fuck. Use pink boomerang on the dragon. It's the easiest one.
>>3976358
But the dragon isn't the most bullshit of the Wily bosses in that game. That would be the Crash Bomb puzzle one.
>>3962152
Start with MM5 and 6. They're the easiest. Then MM4, 2, 3, 1. There you'll have a steady difficulty curve.
Then play 9 and 10.
>>3961542
MM3
MMX1
MMX4
MMZ2
I like Z 2 the most for nostalgia/hipster reasons.
>want to replay Legends
>remember this part
>X3
>Similar looking walls are destroyed through different means
>killing one of the boss randomly makes some walls disappear in levels
>there is a hidden boss throughout stages but you're only rewarded if you beat him with a different weakness everytime
Couldn't they make this shit any more cryptic?
X is my favorite.
Speaking of which, I just found an old poster I used to have in my room when i was a kid, thinking about framing it or something.
>>3968517
Romhacking.net
I know it's not old enough to be considered retro, but was there ever a way to play MM9 on pc?
>>3980784
You can run a WAD on dolphin with openGL
>>3980784
There will be soon, it will be in Legacy Collection 2 alongside MM10 and others.
However it's most likely going to be Wii emulation anyway.
I've always had a real soft-spot for 7, although I can understand why it's so hated.
X will always be my favorite though. I beat it every few days, at least once a week. I've probably played it more than 300 times in its entirety.
>>3980798
Yeah, I'm trying out the dophin thing now since I have a real strong urge to play MM9 right now. I wouldn't mind picking up the colletion, but I'd rather get a new megaman than a collection.
>>3980804
7 has the best graphics of any MM game in my opinion. I love the sprites on it. Sound effects are pretty bad though.
>>3980808
I like 7 a lot desu, but I like the graphics much better in 8 and MM&B.
In 7 a lot of sprites feel like they're not mature, hard to explain.
>>3961542
Classic: 2 & 3
X: 1 & 2
Legends: 1
Zero: 2yeah yeah not retro but I love this series a lot
Dunno about the rest since I've either never gotten the chance to play them or just dropped them
Z4
6, X3, Z4
>>3978520
I mean I'm the kind of person who enjoyed switchhunting in hexen so this kind of stuff was the shit to me
Played most of the originals and MMX. X was probably my favorite followed closely by 2.
Never did get around to the rest of the X titles but I think I might actually do that today. Which of the rest of the X series is worth playing?
>>3980967
X4 at least
>>3980974
I'll check it out. Thanks, anon.
I also missed out on Legends but always meant to. How well does it hold up?
>>3980996
Cons
>Camera and controls suck gigantic ass
>What is good voice acting
>Story is kinda messy
Pros:
>Overall gameplay is fun
>Great music
>Graphics are pretty good aside from a few deformations here and there
>EXPLORING
I'd say you aren't missing much, but give it a try if you get the chance
You know what I fucking hate?
>get an upgrade for the charge shot
>most of the times it actually makes things worse and is a burden you'd be better off without
Fuck you X2 an X3, who tested this shit. I'm talking about the "basic", or first, charge upgrade
>>3983741
I thought X2 buster shot was good, If you charged it to the max you get two full charge shots, each dealing separate damage to any boss.
X3 fucked it up by making it slow as fuck and not being able to hit certain enemies. It was good in the last fight thought because it acted as somewhat of a wide barrier against the homing missiles.
I'm too much of a pussy to beat MM2 on normal even. I really liked it and X though. The atmosphere-scum in me loves Legends. Those are the only ones I've played.
Who else absolutely loves MM8 ?
I love the art style, the sound and music design, and the animated cutscene, and the general "gameplay feel" of it. Fuck, I it even made me care about the story, in a MM game.
I've started playing X4 for the first time just now and it's reminiscent of MM8, except maybe a bit worse so far (2 levels in), but it
According to mobygames "35 people" worked on both MM8 and MMX4, no wonder, and I bet that number only includes the given credits of mobygames.
Did the same studio make the animated cutscenes in both?
>>3984145
>playing as X in X4
>>3984204
zero is honestly awkward to play as,
>>3984204
>stop liking what i don't like!
Abort yourself, manchild.
What's Gary doing here?
Def Megaman X6.
5. Best level design overall. Wave Man's stage is the best in the series.
>>3984991
What's Gary doing here?
>>3980041
Somebody skipped leg day. Apparently perspective day, too.
>>3984204
It's my first time playing the game. I intend to replay it as Zero using another version (Saturn or PC) as soon as I'm done.
Also it's not my screenshot.
>>3985130
Don't bully my poster, anon.
MMZ2
BN3
This game was a mistake
>>3985632
>gba version
That version was a mistake.
The game itself is close to great.
>>3961542
Favorite series is Battle Network, favorite Classic is 4, favorite X is also 4. Not played any of the legends games.
>>3977663
you had trouble with it? i literally spent years trying to beat the flying ducks boss in the roof of wherever it was on megaman legends 2. I simply couldn't beat them, no matter what combination of weapons and buster kits i used. I'm not sure if i ever did beat them. I think i did, after like 3 years when i builded up enough will to try once again after failing a hundred times
>>3987940
btw my favourites are 8, x3 and legends (yes, the first, i just like the atmosphere of it, that the second loses because you're flying to different islands and shit) I also really like megaman 5 for some reason, probably because it's the one i played the most out of the original series
>>3987946
X3 is amazing because of the challenge. It has excellent enemy, bosses and level design.
Too bad about weapons being useless unless you charge them, and also some of the stuff to find and how to get them is a bit cryptic.
If you love 8, then you must like X4 too. Looks like they run on the same engine and a lot of people worked on both games.
>I also really like megaman 5 for some reason
Then you will like my romhack
http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/3343/
and will like the other romhack I'm working on, bringing Protoman, the way he plays in 9/10, to MM5.
>>3987950
yeah x4 is good too but i find the design a bit "edgy". I did play it a lot and i like it better than it's followups. (although i remember x5 having two different secret armors for X, that was cool)
>>3985130
Nothing wrong with the perspective though
>>3975492
Don't shoot him while he's idling. Charged shots are your only answer to the dive punch, so you're not really safe to fire until he's committed to an attack.
MegaMan 2 for the old Game Boy because that's the only one I had the youthful autistic strength to beat
>>3990051
MM2GB was rushed and glitchy as fuck, but it's still cool because it mixes MM2 and MM3.
They raped the musics though, and raping our ears at the same time.

fuck you I liked Clash Man's music I used to hum it while sitting in school
>>3990063
The original is great. Just not the GB version. That shit is out of tune man, no excuse.
>>3976358
God fucking damnit and I've been stuck on the dragon for years
>>3961542
Megaman Legends (64?)
Please don't judge ;-;
