Hardest nes game?
Silver Surfer.

That's bullshit hard, not actual hard.

My gut reaction would be to tell someone to stop wasting their time on it rather than encourage them to keep playing.
Which reminds me, /vr/ doesn't talk about a lot of games like Space Ace or Dragon's Lair or Night Trap. Oughtta' fix that soon.

Simons Quest
Gimmick is generally considered the hardest non-kusoge Famicom game, no?
>>3960532
its Mostly about memorization but pal version is better. I find ghosts and goblins for nes the hardest that i know of

Kusoge doesn't apply to *any* bad afaik, just campy/funny bad. Even if it did, having a specialized term for it doesn't really validate as objective any decision of whether a game is actually hard or simply poorly designed.
It's a pretty gray area that hinges on blurry criteria and requires argumentation to even make a valid point, and usually the online approach is based on categorical, loud statements, and parroting celeb opinions. Pre-Internet you'd find as many people who would defend Battletoads as fair hard as those who would say it sux lmao wwtt.

Nah, that's just the bs you hear from all the youtubers who jumped on the 'muh hidden gem'-train who played the game for an hour to get footage.
Don't get me wrong, it is a hard game but a big part of the challenge is the physics engine and the controlling of your star.
Once you've played for a certain amount of time and actually got the physics and the star handling down it's very well beatable with the good ending.
Some bosses and sections are still frustratingly difficult but there's definitely harder stuff.

NOPE
It's actually the easiest game ever made AND a masterpiece
Legacy of the Wizard is pretty hard without a guide
Wish there were more games like it
