Hey again all those who are interested.

I live in Japan and recently I've decided to try looking for retro games for people on /vr/ upon request.

If you want to get in touch with me please email [email protected] or leave a message in this thread.

If you just want to browse the pictures please check out this Google Photo link (the "." has been removed to get past the spam filter):https://goo gl/photos/ATyrqsTrsxCa3JLcA

Quick breakdown:

1. I post pictures in these threads when I take trips to a retro store (other Japanons are welcome to post too but please put that in your posts so people don't get confused who is who)

2. Let me know via email if you are looking for something and I will get back to you when/if I see it.

3. I tell you the cost/shipping estimate and charge a 10% commission (this might have to go up if I do a lot of these because I can only do so much while working full time).

4. If you are okay with the price, send a payment to my paypal account and I'll send you your game/hardware.

5. You get your stuff and appreciate it more than the person who sold it to a secondhand shop.

If nothing else, I hope that people at least enjoy the pictures.

Sorry, but tonight's post is mostly to update people on my trip to the store tonight. I don't have many new pictures but I'll post what I do have.

For the anon that asked about R-Type and Outrun, they are each 2980 yen (after tax). If you're interested in one or both of them please send me an email and I'll give you a shipping estimate.

I also saw Fire Emblem: Mystery of the emblem for 600 yen and Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War for 1400 yen.

If anyone is interested in a Pri-fun I picked up that one from the last thread for 980 yen but if not then I might just hook it up to my Saturn and print some stills.

I might be able to go somewhere else during Golden Week which will be next week but otherwise these threads might die down for a bit.

I don't want to pick up too much stuff until I've sent the things I bought already.

Alright, that's it for now. Sorry there isn't too much exciting Mega Drive or Neo Geo stuff right now but I'll post updates when I have more.
>>
>>3948371
You can't just buy them there, you have to import the imports
>>
Prices all seem pretty reasonable compared to the US
>>
OP, I'm glad you made a new thread because I've been meaning to ask: Have you stumbled upon any gaijin imports, that is to say, North America or Europe native games? If so, what are the prices on those like over there?
>>
>>3948409
Wat
>>
Hey japanon, do they have virtual boys in nihongo and how much do they cost? I'd like to avoid spending $300 on importing an American one with no stand and a broken controller if possible
>>
Alao do they have game and watches? Those have spiked an insane amount recently
>>
Tatsujin guy here.

Op you are showing more MD and that so cool.

How much is that boxed master system anon.
Tell me more tell me now.
>>
>>3948371
I'm looking for almost anything Neo Geo Pocket Color. The only console I'm interested in is the Slim one (has cursive Color above the screen) but otherwise, I'm open to anything on the system.
>>
How do they keep such nice care of all their case inserts? Almost none of them are faded or damaged. Do they reprint them or do their children respect their belongings more over there?
>>
>>3948803
people sell them to stores sooner and they sit on shelves I guess
>>
>>3948803
Radioactivity.
>>
>>3948720

I'd like to know the sexy master system's price as well. And whether there's 3d glasses available for them.

Also, are you a japanese national OP? Or just living there? Have you considered doing this type of gig as a main occupation?
>>
Could you please take a photo of the store entrance?
>>
>>3948419
I haven't really looked but I think they're a bit more expensive than they would be in NA/EU.

I have seen the Japanese version of foreign games with high prices. Goldeneye cartridge only is ¥2500, Robocop for Game Boy is around ¥2800 and Power Rangers for Super Famicom is ¥5000 (technically Japanese but produced for a foreign market).

>>3948496
Yes but none by me right now. I'll post them if I see them.

>>3948498
Tons

There are some pictures in the Google photo link. I would repost them now but I don't want to use up my data.
>>
>>3948720
It was about ¥20000. Deals do exist here but the Japanese believe in paying for quality.

>>3948838
Just living here but I don't feel as alienated as everyone says I'm supposed to.

I have a full time job that pays pretty well but I suppose if I was overwhelmed with orders I could turn it into a business. That's more of a "cross that bridge if I come to it" situation though. Retro games are a pretty saturated market.
>>
>>3948371
I envy you & I hate you so much :(
I really need to visit some of those amazing -off stores :(
>>
>>3949252
Sure but it's just a chain store.

Also, I'm a little worried about people using google maps to try and find me.

One more general announcement. I'm trying to find a way to ship large/heavy items for less money. Anything over 2000g immediately shoots up to ¥5000 with the post office unless you use surface mail (read "cargo freighter") which takes 2-3 months n can't be tracked. If anyone knows a better method then please let me know so I can get things to you cheaper.
>>
>>3948496
Saw a boxed one in a local store for 14k yen a while back. Seems to be about the going rate.
>>
>>3949449
Sorry?

If you want anything from them let me know and I'll take a look. In the meantime I'll keep posting pictures when I can. It might slow down soon though as if I go all the time the stock won't change enough to stay interesting.

I hope you can make it someday anon. Don't give up, life is longer than you think.

OP, do those shops sell only games and consoles or other video game related stuff as well? I'm searching for a Digital Devil Story books by Aya Nishitani (西谷 史) that were basis for Megami Tensei games. Original DDS trilogy was re released in 2005 in a single book that goes for insane prices on EBay. I'd like to think that it is possible to find it for cheaper prices in Japan.
Pic related is a lot that I found on Yahoo Auctions, those novels are either sold as three separate books (old edition) or as a single volume (new edition). Other books on the pic are sequels that I'm also interested in, but for now I wish to get my hands on original trilogy at least.
>>
>>3950297
Also interesting in this, OP

Also would you do CD's by any chance?
>>
>>3950297
>>3950334
Yeah, I can look for other media upon request. One of the stores has a large book department but most of it isn't game related. They might still show up though.

If you have a list you can send it to my email and I'll add it to my phone.
>>
>>3950378

Alright, the first couple of packages to other anons will be going out tomorrow so hopefully everything goes smoothly.

I just wanted to post a couple of quick picture updates if anyone is still interested in these. If not then I hope everyone can enjoy the pictures.

I picked up Outrun for Sega Saturn and R-Type Complete CD for PC Engine for 2980 yen each after tax.

I haven't got a PC Engine right now but I should probably pick it up soon.

This isn't exactly retro, but while you are searching used games and such, I would greatly appreciate if you could look out for anything Tales of Legendia related. I own a great majority of merchandise, but it would be nice to stumble upon something new, but obviously living in Canada I lack that option unfortunately.

Thanks!
>>
>>3953234
Is there anything in particular you are looking for? Sound tracks, key chains, art books?
>>
is that you superbus
>>
>>3953287
It's hard to say really, I own quite a bit so I probably own most. However anything is an option. Key chains would probably be the best since I lack a few of those.
>>
>>3953287
different anon (oddly enough also living in canada) but similar question regarding mega man. Have you seen any or aware of any neat merch or anything like that? I know capcom shits out a bunch of stuff these days, but older merchandise is what I'm looking for.

same with sonic
>>
>>3948371
I'd be interested in a price check for some controllers.

I have 2 hori mini's for N64 and I want to get 2 more but I don't want to pay the ridiculous prices on eBay.

If you can find them for cheaper let me know.
>>
>>3953396
I'll post a picture of whatever I can find.

I did a quick search of eBay and you're probably right. I don't think most stores here would charge $50+ for that.
>>
>>3953396
I got mine for 3500, and I've seen others in that price range as well.
>>
>>3953460
Most of japans ebay has free shipping, so that's no doubt part of the higher price.

I was talking about 第4次スーパーロボット大戦 that is under Dragonball game and スーパーロボット大戦EX under Super Tetris. I see that 4 is 800 yen, but can't see price tag on EX. If it is also around that price I might be interested in them. They come with manuals as well, I assume, right?

Oops, totally missed that pic, sorry. The manual is usually included unless it says otherwise. Sorry, I can't quite recall the price but most SRW games are under 1000 yen. I can take a look for the other SRW games.

>>3967141
There was an in box NGPC until this week but somebody else must have bought it. Occasionally I see decent games but right now it's just 10 copies of some train conductor game and another 10 of some mahjong game. Another store had Samurai Spirits in the box for about 2900 as I recall.

>>3967409
7800 in the box for both models. This store is sold out right now though. You probably don't need me telling you this but Japanese 3DOs are actually the best version because they can play games with both English and Japanese text and the console is region free.
>>

Would absolutely ship to the U.K. And have done so already. I've seen Disney and Peanuts Game & Watches. I'll post the pictures again soon. If you're interested in any of them please send me an email and we can talk about shipping them there.

>>3968773
This is true. Sorry I haven't been too active but I've been running around all over the place recently and haven't had any news on rare items.

I'm pretty confident now that I can ship most consoles for less than ¥2000 but if you want it in the box the weight might be an issue. I'm still waiting on my scale.

>>3968778
Supply and demand are more closely matched. The most common Super Famicom game I've seen here is Chrono Trigger. There's always a copy available and even boxed copies are often under ¥1000.

Cool, I'm glad it arrived already. Have fun with the game. Let me know if you want anymore Mega Drive pickups.

Retro games sold millions over there whereas in the US some sold barely 200,000 if they were popular, thus there's a way bigger surplus and way less of a demand from people who didn't get the game in the first place

Patents expired years ago. Bootleg consoles are entirely legal (and very popular) in Japan.
>>

I find it curious that they are so popular when the originals are still available for a comparable price.

Can you find a Sega Channel? Don't know if Japan had one, but I'd love to see
>>
>>3972981
Part of it, I suspect, is a cultural preference for "new" things. Rather than a 30 year old used console, people feel more comfortable buying a brand new clone. Plus, many of the clones support multiple systems, which is a big benefit in Japan where space is at a premium.

Obviously hardcore retro game enthusiasts won't be satisfied with a clone, but these things are intended for casuals.
>>
>>3948371

>Rather than a 30 year old used console, people feel more comfortable buying a brand new clone.

Tokyoanon here, I've experienced this. I went out with one of the guys from my sharehouse to get AV and AC cables for a SFC that he had drunkenly bought on amazon for 700 yen. While looking around the store, the guy spotted an FC Twin and started convincing me to buy that instead with him, paying half each. His argument was that considering how old the original console was, it might not even work, and we would never know how long before it would simply break. I eventually gave up when he told me he'd give me the original SFC if I agreed.
Interestingly, the 700 yen SFC was pretty much in pristine condition and played games flawlessly when I finally tested it.

I got a question, how rare are regular Famicoms outside of specialty retro game stores? I went to three different Hard Offs in Kanagawa as I was passing through today, and while I found some interesting stuff like 2 3DO´s for 3000 yen each and an AV Famicom, I found no regular ones. Starting to feel like I should give up and just buy one from the jews in Akihabara or Amazon.
>>
>>3973718
I don't see them at my local Hard Offs very often, but they're common enough at specialty/hobby shops at reasonable prices. Just avoid Akihabara like the plague. Tokyo in general, really.

You can sometimes get good deals on Yahoo Auctions if you're patient. That's where I got my AV Famicom and FDS.
>>
>>3973548
Not OP. I actually saw one of these today for 2300 yen. After checking what people want for them online, I'm thinking I might go back and grab it. Definitely my favorite Saturn game, so it'd be nice to own a legit copy.

It's a wiki managed mostly by EOPs, what did you expect? At any rate, I'm surprised at some of the outrageously wrong stuff that gets posted there at the times, like the fact that they used a photoshopped image for a Street Fighter boxart or their claim that W Impact was never released in the U.S.
