Hey everyone who is interested. This is the anon in Japan from last week. Sorry I barely gave any updates over the past 7 days but I didn't have a chance to go to another store until this weekend.
For those who missed the last thread I live and work in Japan and recently I've started going to stores that carry retro games and gauging interest on /vr/ if there is anything people are looking for. If you have a specific request you can email me at:
[email protected]
I'll post the pictures in this thread to :
https://goo gl/photos/vzXikcLGkwJBhz6n9
I also created a google sheet where people can leave requests:

For the anon who asked about a boxed Super Famicom, I should be able to ship one to the US for about 1900 yen (1500 without tracking but I don't recommend it) and the cheapest one I've seen recently is 4800 yen.
You can see the pictures in the google photos link but I'm going to dump some anyway for those who don't have a gmail.

This store's prices aren't quite as good as the one last week but they have a "junk" section where you can get some pretty good discounts. Yesterday I found the Sega Saturn light gun for 100 yen.
Unfortunately they were kind of picked over. Hopefully they restock soon.

Oh I adore that display. You can just PLAY the games if you want. That's so cool.
>>3940000
>>3940002
They rotate the games but it's usually Smash Bros on the N64. The "not" Famicom gets Kirby and Mega Man too.

Out of curiosity, what part of Japan are you in? I live in Shizuoka-ken and there's a pretty big retro game shop near me. I might stop there today, actually.

I don't want to get into specifics but I'm in the West.
Feel free to add to this thread if you like, maybe this can be a community thing.

Oops, turned the camera the wrong way.
I've seen X-Men vs Street Fighter with the 4MB cartridge too.
>>3940023
It all looks so good... I'm drooling here, man. All that art
>>3940037
>>3940039
5000 yen for Power Rangers though. Goldeneye is 2500.

This place isn't as good for console prices.

>boxed Super Famicom
>4800 yen
Jebus. I bought one for ¥2500 two months ago.
That being said $60 shipped for one in good condition is a steal compared to $100+ for a shitted up yellow one on ebay.
Those cartridge prices seem pretty cheap. Lot of shit for $3-5.
I'd love to be there and grab all the kunio-kun famicom games.
>>3940080
>>3940083
I don't know how they calculate the price. When I got a Saturn it was only 2000 yen and it came with the cords and 2 controllers but lately I've only seen it for 4000 yen or more.

That's it for the retro section. Now for the junk section which also has a lot of retro stuff.
They had these guides yesterday.
>>3940119
>>3940121
I guess I could use this to print pictures from that Sega Saturn Evangelion gallery.
>>3940126
>>3940130

I think this is some kind of programmable remote.
>>3940137
Fuck you why are you killing the retro scene in Japan you fuck.
Stop importation by gaijins.
>>3940138
This stuff all comes without cords or controllers but there is a big discount. Usually stuff from the 90's works but with disc based systems there is more that can go wrong.
>>3940139
I'm offering to find things for people who are interested, I haven't opened up an export business. And if it makes you feel any better there is a Japanese company near where I live that exports hundreds if not thousands of retro games and hardware every month via ebay.
Plus with their economy turning to shit I think most Japanese would gladly part with all of this "trash" if it brings money into their country.
>>3940141
>>3940145
>>3940146
Not yesterday but I can let you know. I'm pretty sure I've seen one before but typically only yellowed Famicoms get put back there.
>>3940147
>>3940141
Any AV Famicoms in that section?
I e-mailed you a moment ago about one since ebay only has shitlessly overpriced ones at the moment.
>>3940151
>>3940154
>>3940151
Sure. I'm not it a hurry.
I only really want another one because I want to put an RGB PPU in it.
Console only and preferably cheap but should still look presentable.
>>3940157
That's it for games today. I'll dump a few more pictures but don't want to get off topic.
Some nice laser discs. Last time I visited they had the original Thunderbirds complete.
>>3940159
I remember reading a pretty interesting article, interested if any one can confirm just how true it is.
I hear that in Japan prices have been increasing as forigners buy but don't resell games. It seems like Japanese players have a very "rental" like attitude towards collecting, often buying a game then sellimg back once completed. However due to outside countries now buying games and not returning them into the market has made Japanese more caustious of reselling. Anyone know of how true this is?
>>3940163
Not retro but still video game related.
>>3940165
OP here
I'm by no means an expert but it seems like they still resell recent games pretty quickly. I saw about 5 used copies of Horizon: Limited edition and a ton of the regular one at the store last week. They seem to have a shorter time to do some though as some stores won't take certain games after they have been out for a while.
Most Japanese still don't collect games though because they just don't have the room. Most Japanese don't care about "traditional' video games and just play on their cellphones.
I do think that interest from abroad has driven prices up but it's not like it's "predatory foreigners preying on poor Japan." A number of Japanese businesses have recognized the demand for this stuff overseas and export it themselves.

I get the impression that the time to buy retro in Japan is long gone. Everything must've been heavily picked over by now, prices raised gratuitously, etc... But, I'd be checking out retro stores too, if I was in glorious nippon, because why not.
>>3940184
Alright, I'm going to stop here for now since I'm out of retro pictures. If you want to see any of the toy and figure stuff it's in the google photos album.
Hope you all enjoyed it. Leaving you with this, can ya dig it?
Ohfuckohfuckohfuck all that sweet sweet nip gb/c/a
I need to be in Japan, apparently
>>3940089
They price check on ebay. kek
>>3940193
Best animation studio.
Thanks OP.
Cool pics OP. What kind of prices are you seeing for a PC Engine? I might be interested in one
I may have a few requests for you at some point, anon. Until then, thank you for all of these wonderful pictures. It's fascinating to see just how much better a different culture treats their things. If I ever saw a game store in the states that looked like that I would never want to leave.
Your google doc link isn't working. But, I'd be interested in picking up random loose controllers and maybe some other stuff. I don't know if you're offering a service or not.
>>3940397
Complete in box PC engines are around 9000 yen but I've occasionally seen the smaller model for 6000-7000 yen. The disc version is usually around ¥20000.
>>3940446
I had to remove the . from the link to get past the spam filter. Sorry, I should have mentioned that in the OP.
The original idea of the thread is that I would sometimes find things for people and take a small commission for doing so while still keeping hints below eBay/retro store prices. If you let me know what you're looking for I can give you an idea of what they cost here.
>>3940626
Mostly, just weird controllers, light guns and peripherals. I mainly do emulation to CRT, but, I like actual controllers and such when they are available.
>>3940016 here.
Just got back from shopping, so I guess I'll post some pics as well if OP doesn't mind. I didn't try to get pictures of everything they had because there's just too much, but I can check for specific things if people request them.
>>3940356
This store had a yellowed original model for 1000 and a decent-looking Core Grafx for 4000, both with no accessories. They also had a Duo in pretty nice shape for 12k... but I already bought that for myself.
>>3940774
Boxed FC/SFC stuff
>>3940778
Hardware. You can see the yellow PC Engine in the basket. They also have an Intellivision for like 40k.
>>3940783
DC/MD stuff. Saturn stuff is next to it, but I forgot to get a picture of it.
>>3940771
Is there a good selection of gb/c/a there?
>>3940807
They have some neat stuff like a GB Light for like 4 or 5k, but in terms of games their selection isn't really huge. There's actually another store I know with a better GB section.
I did get a pic of some GBA boxes, though.
How much does a copy of panel de pon go for? I'd definitely put in an order for that if it isn't too expensive.
>>3941103
Like 600 or so usually. It's cheap.
>>3941117
Hot damn, guess I'll be sending that email
>>3941121
Why even start saving up for sending your kids to college anyways?
On a related note, here's some old trip reports from the late 90s from someone hunting for Famicom games and whatever else in Japan, with prices included:

>Today's visit closes with an inevitable fact - Nintendo isn't number one these days. They're relying on one small hit after another to keep the N64 afloat. Meanwhile, Sega has no problems lining up people to buy Dreamcast games all the time
Hello OP, in the past thread I asked about VGA cables for the Game cube, have you seen any for it?
>>3941173
Did those even exist officially? I know it's possible to mod GC component cables for VGA, but I've never heard of Nintendo themselves selling them.
>>3941184
I remember seeing a box of them, maybe it was fake
I forgot to ask about the S-video cable too, I want original ones
And if OP has seen component Cables, I wonder how much they cost in Japan
>>3941192
You might be thinking of D-terminal cables, which are just component cables with a different connector used in Japan. And they aren't any cheaper than American component cables.
>>3941205
Must be this http://www.ebay.com/itm/GC-Nintendo-GameCube-D-terminal-Video-Cable-/361213424520
They sure are expensive too
How hard is it to find PC-88, PC-98 and X68000 games and where to look?
Going to japan in a year and want to buy few games that I've missed out
>>3941212
HDMI adapters will be available soon anyway, might as well wait for those.
>>3941218
What are you talking about?
>>3941240
https://github.com/ikorb/gcvideo
OP do you think you could find a Densha de Go controller for the PC?
>>3940820
Wow, SIB. Neat. Ever come across a Mother 3?
>>3941581
Frequently. They're not especially rare. Usually go for 1500-2000 for a loose cart, maybe 3000 for a boxed copy.
>>3940046
>diddy kong racing is that cheap
fuck resellers in my country i'd love to own that
>>3943009
>tfw got diddy kong racing for free from friend
>tfw it's okay
it really isn't anything special. Don't worry about it tripfriend.
>>3943016
It's one of my favs though, I've beaten it loads of time. In my top 10 games
>>3943016

>>3940005
i'd buy outrun and rtype complete cd
>>3940126
did you buy it?
they go for a pretty penny like 500 usd in US states
>>3945307
Send me an email at [email protected] and I'll walk you through it.
>>3945317
No, but I can pick it up if you're interested. I didn't read the sign though so I'm not sure why it's in junk. Sometimes the reason is minor and sometimes a feature doesn't work.
>>3945717
"Powered up. All other functions untested. Manual, cable, and Prifun paper included."
>>3945724
Thanks, I'm still working on my kanji.
>>3945717
Tatsujin Guy here.
Show us some MD and Master system love.
Also is there some MVS AES games for cheap ? lire art of fighting or some loose games for mvs.
>>3945830
I'm showing you what I can but right now they are a bit picked over for Master System, at least for in box stuff. I'll post it when I see it though.
I've seen both rare and common AES games but right now there aren't too many at these two stores.
>>3945848
God speed anon and Do your worst OP I am waiting. Let me know when you grab tatsujin.
