did anyone else here grow up with konami cartridges & shitty tape games?
MSX general.
Most of /vr/ are 'muhricans who only had the NES or SNES growing up and probably weren't aware.
Was the MSX even popular in the UK? I always assume it was mostly a Netherlands thing.

We never had it. We did the c64/speccy thing

What? We totally had it. Obviously it wasn't as popular as the alternatives, but it was never difficult to find that grey Toshiba MSX 1

Wish I could buy some MSX games. MSX computers are available for like $150 on eBay. But the games are Neo•Geo priced. No 8-bit shooter is worth that much.

it was a big thing in NZ/ Australia before sega showed up. A lot of big konami stuff like salamander/gradius & bomberman started on it.
>he didn't buy one of these
lol, enjoy not saving your game, fag.

I had a friend with one of those, it was literally a toy computer being marketed by mattel. I remember the only game you could play on it was basically the same snake game later popular on nokia mobiles but it was called snafu.

It had a basic interpreter built in I believe, so you could write your own programs. I probably wrote my first hello world program on it as a kid then got bored.
Not sure how nice of a game you could make on it, I may have to google that tonight for fun.
I heard Chaos Angels is fun

Fuck yeah I did, my story was that my school wanted to be part of this "home computer" thing that was going on, apparently computers were the future so they bought an MSX2.
Fuck I loved that thing, this one shady motherfucker in our class knew a guy or had like an uncle who dabbled with illegal shit so he managed to aquire these 2 pirate cartridges that contained a ton of those Konami games.
I loved those games, Yie Ar Kungfu, Konami Boxing, that kids park game, comic bakery, those racing games, time pilot, those sports games, King's Valley (my teacher loved King's Valley) oh man so many good memories.
Actually bought an MSX2 somewhere in 2003, got some flashcarts for it too, but never managed to find out what pirate carts we had back in 1988. (or was it 89?)
good times, good times.
