I have no clue how to pick favorites. A lot of the genre I played I loved. Good times for me spent with my cousins on this genre, just because I have no friends.

"Now that you have a Super Nintendo, give your old games to your cousin" ... and I never saw the original NES Contra again. Damn game is like $40USD in my area just cart only, which is a whole day's work for me, assuming I don't have food, housing, maintenance, etc. to pay for. It's so common, every kid had it, but so hard to have now.

Gunstar Heroes, but Sunset Riders is #2 on my list.

Graphics = less beautiful than SNES due to fewer colours.
Music = superior to every other version of the game, including arcade.

Back when I was young, I didn't understand the concept of ports so I never knew why this game seemed so different from the version I played at Fuddruckers. All the same, it was enjoyable to me and I played through Genesis almost every other day since I didn't own an SNES.

I always played as Cormano when I could but I secretly wanted to be Chief Scalpem and it showed when I played outside. I would always jump from high places and toss small sticks at the other kids.

sunset riders because of my fond memories with it. The arcade version, that is.

Contra hard corps from genesis is a close second place. What a good and crazy game. Best contra.

Metal slug also comes to mind but I didn't want to spend as many quarters on it as I wanted on sunset riders because I enjoy the wild west setting more.
