Remakes:

>typically 3D
>often ruin the charm
>changes too much
>it displaces the original to new fans if successful
>or 2D "HD" sprites
>Even if they're good they are instantly compared to the originals
>immediately forgotten about if not successful

So many old games have gotten remakes. It's a shitty meme and almost NEVER works out right. They're trying to cash in on nostalgia, but doing it wrong. Examples: Resident Evil, Rondo of Blood, Mega man, Mega Man X, Earthworm Jim, Duck Tales.

Enhanced ports:

>rebuild game using original assets in new engine
>change aspect ratio to 16:9
>Add new content
>add all sorts of options
>enhancements while still staying true to the original

Remakes are the wrong way to go about it. Enhanced ports are how it's done. Examples: Taxman's Sonic 1, 2, and CD ports, Tactics Ogre, and Turok 1/2.

Then build NEW games that work on the spirit of the old games, but are original. Examples: Mega Man 9/10, Ultimate Ghost n GOblins, Sonic Mania. This avoids comparisons to the original, and allows them to stand alone.

Are Pokémon remakes more akin to enhanced ports?

How is REmake bad. It's literally the best game in the series.

op is baiting.

You're full of it.

Maverick Hunter X ran smooth as hell thanks to being based on the X8 engine, and the story cutscenes weren't so bad. Vile mode was also rather interesting.

Powered Up was also a solid package, though suffered more from the screen ratio than MHX. Playing as the more unique Robot Masters was a blast, the Challenge mode was interesting, and even had a level editor. All it needed was a faster slide. The eng dub gets a bonus for actually being less grating than the JP version.

Hating on Ducktales HD makes no damn sense either because outside of the jank that ruins Extreme runs, the game handles, sounds, and looks beautiful. It's everthing you'd look for in an enhanced port. And while there's a few design changes, they not jarring or ruin the experience at all.

While enhanced ports are nice, they suffer from something similar to your percieved problem with remakes: who wants to play a game again if they have the original? What if this "new content" isn't enough? What if the quality of life changes take away from the challenge? A port will always be compared to the original, no matter which way you slice it.

Look at Adventures of Mana: nobody paid it any mind, but it's literally the GB version down to the object placement and hitboxes. The only real difference in design is the new sword combo, and SLIGHT hitbox changes due to the 3D modeling and element of elevation.

And Megaman 9 and 10 are horrible examples because as solid as the games are, they could have given the series license to visually grow, not regress. Capcom's 3D modelers aren't bad, and X7, X8, MHX, Powered Up, and Command Mission all look fine in their own right. X7 for all its shit is the closest the series has come to having models resemble the promo art, with Command Mission and Powered Up in second. And if you wanna stick to 2D, the 16 and 32-bit era designs worked, and Capcom's other games are proof positive that they have a solid in-house staff of graphic artists.

A remake is literally the only reason why we even got Romancing SaGa in the west, and it is a phenomenal remake at that.

Take your head out of your ass.

>Mega Man
You're full of shit, Powered Up was good, and easily the definitive version of MM1. It had several difficulty settings - notably including Easy, which makes it a perfect starting point to 'get into' Mega Man for casuals; perfectly faithful sprite sizes and controls, unlike e.g. Wily Wars; cartoony aesthetic that is faithful to original Inafune's designs, bonus intro stage that serves as a good tutorial, extra dialog for Robot Masters (and most fans like personalities OG Robot Masters get in PUP), two new bonus Robot Masters, and new, slightly remixed stages, and a Challenge mode - oh, and even a level editor, only Mega Man game to ever feature one. PUP is GOAT and you suck, OP.

Interesting thing about vanilla 1, Wily Wars, and Powered Up's controls:

They all have this stupid startup before Rock runs. It's insanely annoying.

Also, my only design complaint for Powered Up are the moving platforms. We didn't need MORE of those little shits.

FF7 looks great though!

I really hope there's a companion mobile app for the game
>>
>>3914023
>>typically 3D
Okay
>>often ruin the charm
Sometimes, sometimes not. A shitty remake is easily avoided.
>>changes too much
See above
>>it displaces the original to new fans if successful
"Displaces" how?
>>or 2D "HD" sprites
Okay.
>>Even if they're good they are instantly compared to the originals
Of course, it's a remake.
>>immediately forgotten about if not successful
Same with everything.
>>
All re-makes should be strictly shot for shot.
