I'm the opposite, I liked the outside part but found the inside kind of boring. It didn't help that the camera didn't control too well near the ceiling of the pyramid either.

Because that's the only way to get better at Mario 64: sheer memorization and robotic movement. Compare that to old 2d platformers which allowed you to be reactive because the whole thing wasn't some random "point the stick 37.23 degrees, wait until you pass this exact point at 46, 33 on the map and then rotate to 84.4 degrees, wait 4.8 seconds then hit jump" bullshit. You could actually, you know, SEE what was coming and know that you wouldn't jump out into the nothingness because of some random goddamn camera fling or because you were off by .7 degrees.

Actually I take this back, you only have to RIDE the carpet for the big house star. You have to use it as a platform for 2 others, but you don't need to ride it.

The star where you have to stand on the 4 pillars is one of my favorite stars in SM64. The feeling of accomplishment I got as a kid when the top of the pyramid exploded was unreal. Plus the unexpected boss fight at the end was great.

Truly a great moment for 8 year old me.

TTM, WFT, TTC, JRB, BOB are the best.
WFT was my favorite as a kid (the first one I got all stars), and probably still is (I just love it, don't ask why - I guess it's comfy)

I really prefer kazooie but i enjoyed hazy maze cave and tick tock clock.
Also the Snowlevel with the penguin.

A level i absolutely hate is the shitty desert you mentioned. Pain for the eyes and that shitty red coins in mid air.
Inside the pyramide its fine except if you stuck in sand.

The red coins in that level are so easy. Plus you can get into the pyramid quick with the bouncing BROWN BRICK at the beginning to jump over the hill. Also the boss fight is amazing it's one of the best levels I'm the game bruh
