Not necessarily video game movies, but movies about playing vidya.
Wargames
The Wizard. I spent so many time trying to find the racing game that appears on the arcade scene, it happens to be Taito's Top SpeedIt's shit

That horror movie where that group of LAN friends tried out that new game that turns out to be real life. 2000 I wanna say
>>3910970
With the Malcom in the middle guy? Is called Stay Alive, dumb but fun movie.
Cloak & Dagger, which in a way is the Atari 5200's version of The Wizard.
Avalon (2001), underrated movie about some people from a not so distant future who plays an ilegal, virtual reality, cold war game.
Nice visuals and atmosphere, passable story. You will not become a fan but it's worth the time you spend watching it. Specially if you're a slavaboo.

GO KILL YOURSELF
There are a bunch of documentaries about video games. I haven't seen all these. I've seen a few about people who set world records on arcade games, and they are all pretty sad and messed up.
I love documentaries about niche subjects though, and if you are into that you might like some of these.

>Man VS. Snake
Which others are directed in that style? It was excellent.
>>3911425
To me Man vs. Snake felt like it was trying to be another The King of Kong, except with a more positive interpretation of its characters.
>>3911324
I enjoyed this movie.
It seriously wasn't that bad.
>>3911394
Backing up Mortal Kombat
Legit great, even the second one hits on all the high notes.
They're classic entertaining movies.

Came here to post this.
Brainscan.
>>3911396
Special When Lit should be on here in place of Tilt.

Tron
The Last Starfighter
wargames
Mario Bros
Wizard
Wreck it Ralph
Mortal Kombat
Summer Wars-sorta game related
>>3911324
Your kind aint fucking welcome here
nor anywhere
>>3911452
Anon, I watched it. It was bad. Annoying too if you actually know anything about the games they're playing.
>>3911396
I oughtta' watch more. The only movies I've seen on this list are the king of kong, the wizard, and indie game the movie. The latter of which was inspiring, ignoring fish's bits, which just exhibited him... making sure a guy doesn't get any money from his game for the most part. Which wasn't really inspiring or showed what a lot of devs have to go through since it was such a niche situation.
>>3911375
This looks cool
>>3910194
king of kong, nibbler
both documentarys but really well done and fun to watch
>>3911375
It's actually directed by Mamoru Oshii the guy who directed the original Ghost in the Shell movie
Worth a look.
>>3912078
hes directed a lot more /m/ stuff than that.
Grandma's Boy
>>3911375
Really cool film, the soundtrack and visuals are awesome
>>3911796
This, this, this
Also the Bishop of Battle segment from Nightmares
>>3911396
Why is The Wizard on a list of documentaries?
>>3913947
because it was and the events happened in realtime. just like Highlander
>>3911396
Atari: Game Over was really strangely pro-Atari considering the title. Probably couldn't twist the knife too much in order to work with them but there's definitely a shift to corporate ball-licking by the end.
>E.T. had a great developer
>E.T. wasn't so bad guys
>We just manufactured too many games, it wasn't all about E.T. lol
>And then the great Atari had unrivaled success as a publisher, the end.
Worth watching for the landfill stuff though.
>>3911843
It's hard to believe Phil Fish even agreed to star in Indie Game considering he looks like a psychopath through the whole thing. The contrast between him and everyone else is great though, good watch.
>>3913947
I posted that and I'm still confused about it. I was just looking for an image that had Man vs Snake and King of Kong together, and that was the only one I could find in 10 seconds of googling.
>>3913981
Wasn't it made as like an X-box original movie? So I'm not surprised that it has an editorial bent towards shilling the industry.
>>3910194
Surf Ninjas
>>3913981
The best line from that was something to the effect of "I'd rather play ET than any Call of Duty game".
Afuckingmen.
Joysticks (1983)
I'm also pretty fond of Hackers (1995) but the way it relates to video games is the part where they play WipeOut and the reason I like that scene is because it reminds me of Joysticks
I don't really ask for much out of my video game movies - I'm also a fan of those first four posted films not to say that Wargames at least doesn't stand on its own as a film.
>>3914583
>pretty fond of Hackers (1995)
Hey, this tripfag might be alright after all
>>3911375
>>3912078
He also directed another film called Assault Girls. It's shit.
>In the aftermath of a global thermonuclear war three battle tested women wage war in a virtual video game against giant mutant sand whales.

I liked king of arcades even if I only watched it cos Todd Tuckey was in it.
Does Walter Day only agree to be in these documentaries if they show him playing is awful yet endearing folk music?
I'm definitely going to watch that Tilt Pinball one next.
>>3914608
Well, they didn't even accurately speculate on system link play in Hackers....
>>3914618
Oh god they made a movie out of Final Fantasy X-2
>>3914608
When over a decade earlier King Vidiot went directly head-to-head with Chad or whatever the generic lead's name was - and we caught our first glimpse of Super Pac-Man
>>3911796
I've been looking for a copy of that forever.
Although it not a game movie, the game scene in Maximum Overdrive was sweet.
Anyone remember a movie where a kid's at a mall and he's playing a VR arcade game with a helmet and gun, and a bad guy is trying to sneak up on him?
If we're talking game movies, people make Street Fighter out to be way worse than it actually is. It's not an amazing movie, but it's fun and enjoyable, and has some legitimately interesting scenes.
>>3914637
I'd give good odds that what you're trying to remember is The Bishop of Battle which is a hard one to look up because it's not a movie in itself it's a segment of a horror anthology film Nightmares (1983)
1983 was a good year for video games - probably TOO good in hindsight.
Nirvana (1997), from Italy.
>>3914647
Man, I dated a girl who's delts stuck out wider than her tits like that. Gross.
>>3914656
Oh gramps, you and your girlfriends
>>3914657
They were kind of wrinkly too but at least they weren't like this other die-hard vegan girl who was also too-thick in the torso but HER tits were like oranges in socks - and she was only like 19. How to vegans even get fat? It's a mystery but if anybody could have used more BGH during puberty it was her.
>>3910194
>>3914671
Grandma's Boy was garbage though.
The rest of that list is perfect.
>>3914680
King of Kong also sticks out as not really fitting in with the rest.
>>3914671
>The WizardTHAT MAN TOUCHED MY BREASTS!
>>3914647
This movie was absolutely gorgeous. Full of feels, thick atmosphere and beige macs.
Bumpin. I may be forced to watch Joysticks soon.
>>3911452
I'm willing to believe this. We live in an age of extreme critical polarization. Stuff is either "OMG BEST EVARR" or "LOL SO BAD, KILL IT WITH FIRE"
>>3915308
It was about as good as the new Ghostbusters
>>3914623
as cheesy as his videos are I am also a fan of Todd
