What should I look for in a CRT?
>>
stay away from modernish korean ones. The color is garbage compared to japanese

a cathode ray tube
>>
Component, RGB or Scart inputs.
>>
>>3906901
a vacuum
>>
Get a Sony PVM unit, that is RGB capable, they are some of the greatest CRT screens ever made. Granted most are pretty tiny, my PVM has an 8" screen, but my sega genesis has never looked so good!

A vacuum. lel
>>
#1) roaches and bedbugs.
#2) name brand, no Durabrand, Sylvania etc Walmart shit.
#3) 20" plus, the lower fidelity of a consumer set makes smaller sets much less desirable and a lot are mono only. 24-27 is the sweet spot, 20-24" if you're a really little guy, they're heavy
#4) Component inputs if ntscu. rgb scart if pal.
#5) good geometry and no moire
#6) overall condition, no smoke damaged, ever.
#7)price
#8) how cool it looks, no use if it doesn't get you those sweet (you)s amirite

They're not good for 240p video games. They're way too sharp and the picture is ugly.
>>
>>3907138
Also 8"? you gotta be fucking joking lol At that size even a shitty old crt running a system via RF would look fine.
>>

Make sure the sky is blue.
>>
1. Does it turn on?
2. If so, does it display a picture?

That's all you need.
>>
Confirmed never playing on an 8 inch.
>>
20" Minimum.
If you're euro, RGB SCART, Composite.
If you're US, Composite, Svideo, Component.
If you're lucky (find a 20" for under $100) or rich (Have $250+ burning hole in your wallet), PVM it up with RGB+S and go full RGBtard.

Another alternative is to get a CRT with VGA input and use a SCART to VGA Sync blaster.

They exist, they're less rare than PVM/BVMs, and very few people look that hard for them.

It's entirely possible to get an early 720P capable CRT with VGA input that will support the full gamut of 15khz/30khz resolutions via VGA in the 27" range and use that for everything from Magnavox Odyssey to PS3/360.

I had one for a LONG time before I got a 55" plasma to replace it and got a cheap PVM from a medical surplus website.

I used it for PS3 and put thousands of hours on it before it started to lose alignment after having moved it cross-state 4 times, and I didn't want to pay for repairs.
>>
CONFIRM what you're buying has stereo sound or at the very least the inputs to get it. Mono sucks ass.
