I had a Gameboy Advance though, and was pretty much the only one I knew that had the first model of the Nintendo DS, so it wasn't because I was poor.
>>
I could never make any process with that thing. Everything was just too powerful compared to the shit you start with.
>>
>>3905467

i got 2 of em
i love it
>>
I had a lime green GBC then a white GBA so I think I was fine
>>
>>3905446
Was that the thing that you had to scan barcodes with?
>>3905454

Did Tiger Electronics have any fucking shame?
>>
By the time those barcode scanning snd head to head connecting LCD games came out you could buy a fat green screen game boy used for the same price because everyone was upgrading to pockets and colors
>>
>>3905467
found one in my neighbours rubbish bin but was too young to understand it was a relic so i left it alone

They say the gameboy sold like hotcakes thanks to tetris, but if you ask anyone around here what "tetris" is, it's one of these.
Hell, I don't think I've ever seen a single GB in person, maybe a GBC once during its heyday, but never the original.
>>
>>3905446
I had the "commander" one that was incompatible with all the others. Looking back without nostalgia goggles these things were pretty dumb.
>>
>>3906501
Where do you live? We had those too, but they weren't super popular.
>>
My brother and I both got one for Christmas one year. I though it was neat, but I could never get anything from it.
I still have the Gamepro magazine that has a barcode for a monster that can be used on any of the three versions.
>>
>>3905467
I have one, still works for the most party, the up direction doesn't work tho, so metal slug is near impossible.
>>
I had this, also an afterburner tower with flight stick.

Does anyone know where to find a listing of all handhelds? I had a third handheld but some fucker at school stole it and now I can't remember what it was.
>>
>>3906554
It was a sequel to the original 3.
>>
>>3905459
I had that and didn't have a clue on what you were supposed to actually do.
>>
>>3906823
Damn nigga, I had that same exact turtles game. It fucking sucked. I also remember the sticker on the front having multiple (at least two) layers of the same sticker, so you could peel off the top one in case it got dirty and have the game look brand new.

My best mate had that back in the day, also the follow up (pic related). He also had the Star Trek game and Top Gun ones.
>>
I'm surprised these little stanndalone consoles died out. I mean, the electronic components and LCD displays are dirt cheap these days, you could make some really innovative stuff for nothing.

Let me give you a quick rundown of my childhood to early teens, pic related and in chronological order.

I'll let you guess which one was my favorite. Here's a hint, it was the size of an original Digimon digital pet, could play "9 different games" (actually more like 7, with vertical-inversion-clones and different-pieces-tetris, but still, seven fucking classic games) with 9 speed and difficulty settings for each game, came on a keychain, was purple, and was called Blockade. It was Blockade. The "block-arcade" I guess? It was like your classic Tiger handheld but instead of a bunch of still frames of some detailed little guy and background bits that procedurally darken, it was a full sheet of little tesselated squares that procedurally darkened. Essentially, it used big fat pixels instead of only being able to play one thing. It was like 7 dollars, even back in the early '00s when I got it. The best LCD game I've ever owned to date. Damn shame I lost it. I'd kill to buy another.

I was caught on surveillance video putting 20 of these things in my pockets and waddling out from the store. They didn't stop me because 1.) apparently the whole staff was busting out laughing at the videos and 2.) they knew that i came with my dad and that i was waiting for him in the car, so they approached him about it instead

Mother fucker.

I had all the tiger handhelds I could want, and I still chose to play with that thing. The electronic motors rolling the map downward produced heat and made a ton of noise and vibrations, further emulating an actual car as you played it.

When I was a kid, before I got a Game Boy Pocket. I had 3 of these Sonic 1, Sonic 2 (pictured and still working) and the first TMNT.

They were pretty fun. But to this day I have no idea why they choose Oil Ocean for the backdrop. IIRC Sonic 1 used a hybrid of Green Hill and Marble Zone. Why not use like Casino Night or Chemical Plant for Sonic 2?

Plane and fucking Tank - that was a great LCD game.

Radio Shack had so many of these and many of them were actually really fun. The bigger version of Space Alien was my favorite.
