Nobody will give you the same answer but truth be told there is no game I know that has more staying power that tibia, the fact that it has lasted 20 years should speak for itself.
Maybe because you haven't played since you were a 12 year old kid like me it won't have as much appeal.
You can get a feel for the game as a fremium but premium time is pretty much required to play the game but it is not extortionate.
The problem with Tibia is that it is a huge time sink because you can have fun in tibia for 5 minutes or 5 hours if you wish there is always something worthwhile doing.
It is a sandbox game and I could go on and on about the different ways you can enjoy the game but you had better try it out for yourself.
Time enjoyed wasting is time well wasted.

You can have as much fun as you want and the game is totally playable until a few things at the endgame like team hunts and big quests but its not like you can't still do them with other groups. Personally grinding it out alone gets pretty boring, you'll hit a point where you don't feel purpose any more and the novelty of playing will wear off. Being part of a community adds another dimension to the game and that's why this general was formed. Suddenly you aren't just playing for yourself, you're playing for your buddies too.

I haven't played in more than a decade. Has there been any changes to the f2p model? Like more zones for non-premium?

ya, buy tibia coins(can be used to get a lot of stuff besides premium. click the store menu near your equip) with gold on market. 250 coins(1month of prem) is like 1-3kk depending on your server

great game since 1997, I have been playing since 2006.
Now they managed to make the battleeye who stops botters. the game is great. you can do so much things and meet so much people.
I dont find the non pvp that exiting as pvp where you could die by treason war, love affairs haha so much things it fulfills the VR ar some point. Basically the community its Brazilians, Swedish, Germans, Spanish and some Mexicans. its basically Swedish and Brazilians
