There aren't a lot of platformers on PC like there's on consoles. Like, you won't find anything in the same league as Super Mario World or Sonic 3 & Knuckles (you can play the PC port, but I'd recommend the original Genesis version for the music, and I bet you've already played it anyway), same with action-platformers like Rondo of Blood, Super Metroid, or Contra.
But there's some decent platformers/side-scrollers that may be worth trying out, like Commander Keen series and Turrican. You will have to deal with western-style level design though.

For point and clicks you're in the right place, stuff like Monkey Island, Legend of Kyrandia, Day of the tentacle are some of the most acclaimed ones, but there's a lot to discover if you dig into it. Some people hate Sierra ones and I might understand why, but damn King's Quest VII is pretty to look at.

My personal recommendation on DOS games: SkyRoads
>>
>>3901996
Ecstatica 1 and 2
>>
>>3902049
Epic had some decent platformers for DOS. Jill of the Jungle are Xargon were both pretty great.
>>
>>3901996
You mean the ones that weren't ports of better versions on other systems?
>>
sim city 2000
>>
good DOS games:

ZZT
Blood
Star Wars: Dark Forces
Boppin'
Daggerfall
Ultima series
Commander Keen series
Dangerous Dave in the Haunted Mansion
Wolfenstein 3D, and its sequel Spear of Destiny

For platformers Apogee pretty much ruled the DOS scene:

Crystal Caves
Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure
Jill of the Jungle
Hocus Pocus
Monster Bash

He didn't mention the amiga and could have been talking about games from numerous systems.

You seem quite invested in pushing the idea that the amiga was a shit system, which is a bit weird.

What else was competing with DOS in the late '80s/early '90s?

>You seem quite invested in pushing the idea that the amiga was a shit system, which is a bit weird.
Because it is, unless you have a boner for eurotrash.

Bio-Menace, nice little platformer with a cliche story.
>>
>>3907843
Many great PC titles were developed for Amiga. Thing is, if it wasn't for Amiga you wouldn't get to play games such as Worms for instance.
>>
Some stuff I found worth trying
>One Must Fall 2097
>Descent I/II
>Death Rally
>MDK (not strictly a DOS-only title, but eh, it's great nonetheless)
>Tyrian
>Abuse
>Liero (really, really needs a second player to be worth it though, also all modern remakes suck ass apart from the semi-official 1.36 patch)

There's probably more, but I either can't think of them off the top of my head or they've been mentioned in this thread already.

Imagine being so completely and utterly assblasted by a platform that it triggers you without even being mentioned. Imagine being so pathetically obsessed with pointless platform tribalism and "dank meemays" that you're constantly thinking about things that aren't even a part of the discussion. That you're constantly planning your next shitpost even before the subject is breached.

Congratulations. You actually triggered and baited yourself.

I just recently decided to get parts together for an old DOS machine built for my memories. The first things which come to mind for me to install are:

Epic Pinball
Star Control 2
Princess Maker 2
Sam & Max: Hit the Road
Tyrian
Zone 66
Ultima 7 (& Part 2 with expansions)
Legend of Kyrandia (& 2)
Scorched Earth
Civilization
Masters of Magic
Wing Commander 2
X-wing (& Tie Fighter)
Doom (specifically 1.1-1.2)
Leisure Suit Larry 5 (& 6)
Syndicate
UFO
Privateer
Day of the Tentacle
Alone in the Dark
SimCity 2000
Crusader: No Remorse
Raptor: Call of the Shadows
Warcraft 2
King's Quest 6

(I would name all the point & click adventures from Sierra and Lucasarts but the ones listed are the ones that are most essential to me)

For the not-great but still important to me essential games on DOS includes pic related with:
Seasons of the Sakura
Super Tetris
Pirates
Power Dolls
Street Fighter 2 bootlegs
Inherit the Earth

>>3902013
For platformers, there aren't many I recall but I enjoyed and will install are:
Halloween Harry
Jazz Jackrabbit 2
Commander Keen
Prince of Persia (& 2)
Duke Nukem 2

I remember Jill of the Jungle and Skunny, but those were too weird for me even then.
Based on posts from around it seems I should try out:
World Rally Fever
System Shock
I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream
Populous
Theme Park
Beneath a Steel Sky

I too welcome recommendations matching my taste.

I forgot something also great for me on a personal level since I was looking for more Star Control 2 goodness. Hard to believe I forgot since I mention it a lot on these DOS threads:
Solar Winds

I guess I'll throw in:
Silverball
Pinball Dreams
Extreme Pinball

As they are more of the same pinball I loved with Epic Pinball.

Also I remember going through some Elf games from DOS/V.
>>
>>3907482
Uh, Epic Megagames did Jill of the Jungle.

I recommend checking our their early stuff prior to Gears.
