I was in 5th grade and I wasn't using the internet at this point so I didn't find out until several months later when it was in EGM.

It's so strange to think about how fast we get our news now compared to back in the magazine days.

I was reading about shamanism and living in a tiny town. I had no idea it had happened, as the previous summer I had spent several times birdsitting for my neighbor, who also had a dreamcast with keyboard and internet, which was the first I had gotten back online since dropping out of high school to work.

11 years old, didn't know and didn't care. I only remember one of my friends having a Dreamcast, and I wasn't very impressed with Crazy Taxi or whatever he was playing.

6th gen was overall uninteresting to me as a kid, and probably the reason I got more into buying old games (which were dirt cheap then), and getting into emulation.

I was probably playing StarCraft or Diablo.

I had absolutely no idea the DC was done until SEGA games were being released on other consoles.
No one I knew had a DC, hell I've never even played one myself. Everyone seemed to be waiting for the ps2 and gamecube.

To be honest, I only cared for Sega 3 or 4 years later, when I took my father's SMS to my grandma's house. My life as a gamer was all about GTA Vice City, Gran Turismo and Final Fantasy so it was really weird to play Shinobi, Alex Kidd in Miracle World and After Burner but I enjoyed it so much that i started look for old games.

I had just bought a dream cast the previous Christmas with money I was saving all year from my past birthday.

I wasn't even mad, it meant I could get games cheaper, and the thing already had so many fucking games I would be set for literally years.

I still play it today.

I was 13 and a huge SEGA fanboy so I unironically almost cried.

I bought a Dreamcast in mid 2001 for cheap, it still had good games and more than PS2.

I'll never forget that day.... I cried myself to sleep that night.

I remember picking up a brand new Dreamcast in 2001 at Kmart for $50 dollars. $50 fucking dollars! One of the best purchases I've ever made. Came with an awesome demo disc too.

Dreamcast went on to become my favorite console.

January 31, 2001 I probably playing PSO with my new girlfriend wondering when she was going to put out or possibly banging the ugly vegan chick I was using to fill in. Was the 31st a weekday or a weekend? It's also possible I was hanging out with the girl I REALLY wanted who had been dating a younger friend of mine since they had both been jailbait but I don't think that really heated up until the weather started getting nice or I could have been on a double date.

It's still funny to see how the two companies literally became pals after years of aggressive marketing.

I'm pretty sure I was watching WWF Sunday Night Heat and was completely oblivious to the news. I can't even remember if I even had a Dreamcast yet (I'm sure I got one in like February or March).
