So let me get this straight:
A Mario clone
Starring Donkey Kong
with Pokemon Pinball music
and a broken Engrish story?
And some Taz mixed in cuz why not?
It actually looks halfway decent, aside from the constant slowdowns. Better than most the shit I see in these threads.

Oh, that sucks. If you want good bootleg Game Boy or Game Boy Color games, I recommend Digimon Fight, which is basically a Digimon fighting game, and Zook Hero Z, which is basically Mega Man. They are both suprisingly good for bootlegs.

Shi Kong Xing Shou and Shui Hu Shen Shou are pretty good pseudo-bootleg Pokemon-like RPGs.

Too bad I can't read Mandarin Chinese (and in the case of Shui Hu, have extensive knowledge about the ancienr Chinese classic novels, particularly Water Margin)

Pokemon Jade is a Telefang bootleg to go along with Pokemon Diamond.
>>
>>3912956
>>3912958

Well, someone's "translated" the entire Pokedex for both games (by "translated" I mean transcribed the Chinese then put the results through pre-neural Google Translate. At least the original Chinese and romanization was included too).

https://pastebin.com/sf6tmXpp
https://pastebin.com/xd8MVLcG

As for Shui Hu Shen Shou, from what little I can gather, I heard that SHSS uses "old words" in the Chinese language in its dialogue, making it a bit difficult for translators used to modern-day language. If I may take a guess, it might mean it's a speech style similar to those seen in Mandarin-language wuxia dramas and movies set in older times (but definitely not grammatical Classical Chinese, as "old words" might also imply), fitting since SHSS is loosely based on one of the Chinese Classics. Might need to fully verify that with an actual Mandarin-reading person though.

Here's a bootleg hack of Sugoro Quest featuring Thunder Blast Man.
>>
>>3918670
I'm saying the Game Boy could clearly display complex characters but despite this Japanese games for the most part exclusively used kana.
>>
>>
>>3900361
Wait, what does this image convey? Neither of these are Pokemon Yellow. Is one the bootleg and the other a translation of the bootleg?

Also where can I find it? Looks really cool to play a Yellow remake for NES. Looks like they put a lot of effort in it, too. Was it made by fans?

But why are you saying this? Why not just say "I'm retarded"?
>>
>>3919345

Let me break it down for you. I'm gonna go all "linguistics nerd" on you all.

The Japanese language has kanji (the complex logographic symbols, based on Chinese hanzi) and kana (basic syllables, more simple, learned by children first, kanji can alternatively be written in kana, especially in children's books) as their main writing systems. There are a buttload of kanji, while the kana are fewer in comparison. Because primitive hardware such as the NES, Game Boy and Game Boy Color has very limited space to spare per game (especially in the earlier years), Japanese programmers only had room for the kana, Latin alphabet, and Arabic numerals in the graphics data to sacrifice for a single game when it came to dialogue, and each tile for each syllable/letter/number has to be 8x8. In that case, any dialogue in Japanese is written primarily in kana (see first two Zeldas, early Final Fantasy games, pre-gen 5 Pokemon, Mother series, etc.). Sometimes there are cases where the programmers can only make room for katakana (as far as kana are concerned), leaving out hiragana entirely. Even when Super Famicom games had increased storage for kanji, most games still used only a hundred or few kanji at most, and some SFC games still chose to spell dialogue in all-kana. I think it was about the PS1/N64 era for home consoles and about maybe the DS era for handhelds when the Japanese took full advantage of writing in proper kanji in their video games (sometimes complete with furigana)

Sonehow, in some way, Chinese and Taiwanese bootleggers have managed to fit in thousands of hanzi (Chinese characters) in the graphics data of a single Famicom or GB/GBC game to make comprehensible dialogue, printed out in full 16x16, in consoles with very limited space, especially for something like an RPG or an unofficial translation or something. Even if most of the Chinese-language games are crap (except for SKXS and SHSS), that in of itself is a technical feat that is pretty impressive.
>>
A bit off-topic but anybody else ever had dreams in which you were playing some bootleg game?

I had a recurring one when I was nearing about 10. It was always about me being in some Toys R' Us and picking up a copy of Super Mario Bros 3 for the GBC. The cover art was a little strange and when I'd play the game in my dream, it was some shoddy bootleg port of SMB3.

I really wanted all three classic
Mario games on GBC...

I would love to have an English translation patch of this. Does it have linking support?
>>
>>3922612
Sadly, no linking/trading here. Just a single-player Pokemon-like RPG.

Can't have everything, man. Still interesting RPGs regardless.

I wonder if anyone here can figure out just how to replace the big Chinese text with smaller English text in both SKXS and SHSS. Even if doing just that is not a translation in of itself, figuring out just how to do that would be a start to an eventual translation for sure (and for other Chinese-language GB games, to a lesser extent)
