I haven't actually even played DL3 but I thought Kirby 64 seemed really slow and boring compared to Super Star and DL2. Is DL3 the same way?

SuperStar was my first Kirby. At the time, it was (and is still) one of the best games I'd ever played.
Then DL3, then Dream Course, then 64. Nothing after that because nothing after SS was nearly as good, they were all a major step down by comparison. How did they fuck up so badly?

Mostly because of the level design and copy abilities. The story, music and graphics all check out but the levels mostly lack interesting shit to do, so you rely on trying all the copy abilities to have fun, but they nerfed the shit out of a lot of them.

Shimomura didn't know how to make Kirby games fun. Good thing the newest director took inspiration from Sakurai instead of him.

I operate under the theory that there is no such thing as a bad Kirby game, merely some are better than other. That said, DL3 is definitely one of the weaker entries. I played it all the way through something like 15 years ago, was satisfied with it, but haven't felt the need to go back to it since. I think boring is too strong a word... bland is more accurate.

I personally prefer Dreamland 3 to Dreamland 2.
The major problem with Dreamland 2 was the screen size, you all too often had enemies pushing your shit in or screen scroll crushing you because of tiny screen area.
Another major issue was cryptic puzzle solving. You see rooms with rainbow drops in them, but you can't tell which ability you need to break the blocks. It takes very specific abilities and help combinations to get some of these and the game makes you jump some frustrating hurdles to do them.
Dreamland 3 didn't nearly have this issue, each world had its own puzzle solution and is usually more transparent and involves less backtracking. It's not absent, but it's only as frustrating as the level objectives you can fail mid-way through the level, which forces a quit and retry.

My biggest problem with the game was that using any ability just stops any momentum that you have. That just feels really off, in terms of game physics. Never thought Id see a game from Nintendo with that issue.

And yeah the game is pretty slow.

Im not a big fan but its a polarizing game in general. Either you think it's weak or one of the most amazing ganes ever.

I really wanted to love it because I found the artstyle to be beautiful, but in the end I just couldn't get into it. My favourite is probably Adventure.

Some prefer Sakurai's Super Star-esque gameplay, others prefer Shimomura's situational gameplay. I'd kill for another Kirby 64 or a Dream Land 4 before I play another Return to Dreamland rehash.

I find adventure the best with 64 close behind, love all kirby games.

I've been keeping my tabs on it. I don't hate Triple Deluxe (I own it and 100% even), but I've been wanting more out of Kirby games for a bit now. I'll snag Robobot eventually. Kirby with a big budget could be great, and HAL mentioned a 3D Kirby game being considered.

I didn't like DL3, which is weird since I enjoyed DL and DL2.

The thing is, each ability in Superstar offers a mastery curve, with movement, range and damage utility in varying degrees, and can carry you through the game, whereas Kine and Spark is always going to be a light bulb.

Kirby's unpowered combat and mobility aren't adequate for an objective-based game like Squeak Squad or Dream Land 3.

Dl3 shit tier = 300$ on ebay

Maybe you just don't like it cause it's one of the slow Kirby games.

SS has more intense action with lots of pretty colorful explosions for kids with adhd. That does not mean DL3 is slow. Pick better adjectives. DL3 can be played fast but is more about the puzzles and level designs. SS levels are fucking boring to me since they are mostly flat with lots of easily killable enemies. The powers are all over-powered and make the game extremely easy and boring.
