Altogether now, deep inhale and ...

I wish someone more knowledgable about Apoc could write a mini-guide or something to help me get started with it. I've played a few times, but I always feel overwhelmed and I don't know what to do.
Your honor, due to circumstances beyond my control, the government has cut off my salary.
>$119,057 funds remaining.
I am sorry your honor, due to due national security secrecy laws I am bound to answer that I have no other sources of income. I am unable to pay Timmy's child support this month, or for the foreseeable future.

RAEG AGAINST THE REQUEST! AND ...
Actually, being a veteran Apocalypse player I guess I could do just that. Not right now though, as I am just on the cusp of the campaign climax as we speak. It's now a race to build workshops and warships.
OpenApoc when?

One thing I'll mention as general bit of advise: Apocalypse is much like the first XCom in that the game play collapses into a stupidly simple dynamic. In XCom one it should become obvious that soldiers=money. Super soldiers are nice, but hordes of expendable rookies get the job done as well. Once you figure out how to self fund your replacements, you cannot lose the game.
Apocalypse is not quite so silly, yet the financial dynamic is comfortably similar.
Couple a more screen shots for shits and giggles.
"No your honor, I've heard no rumors regarding hookers and blow, and Diablo. They make some nifty lighters though."
>Debts: $1,569,712.
>Income: $340,084.
In the real world, this is about as close to financial security as most governments get. In Apocalypse, it's useful to remember you're not being paid to defend the city's airspace. Not only do I expect never to see a government cheque again, I certain that debt is going to skyrocket by servicing repairs to the city.
Eat your heart out, Haliburton.

Veteran, many times over.
Bankrupting the government was a nice surprise. It'll make this run a little more challenging. Basically, the only way I could lose is if:
a) The aliens flatten both my bases through air combat in one week or -
b) The infamous organization relations out of bounds game glitch on day change.
I was introduced to XCom 1 from a thread on olde /tg/ years ago. Interceptor is the only game from the original series I've not played through. Be it clear and present heresy, Apocalypse is my favorite so far.

>That sound ... is that?
*wa-fucking-BOOM*
>Dimension missile launchers!
*wa-fucking-BOOMITY-BOOM*
*soldier dies*
>Fuck.
First casualty in sixteen days. Five more days until the advanced workshops are built. Nail biting challenge level: resumed?
Of course, now the aliens are only sending one battleship as a troop transport per day. So, only one ground battle per day. Nail biting challenge level: ... well ....

I played interceptor
it's part xcom, part buggy as fuck flight sim entirely dependent on how good your wingmen are at murdering ufopornos because you'll probably land like 3 shots at most
